Most people enjoy watching a movie or show with friends more than they do alone. It rings quite hollow when someone says you can't expect someone else to make you happy when I absolutely expect my friends to make me happy by spending time with me and they always deliver on my expectations, because a moment shared truly is better. So it's a nice phrase to say to someone who's feeling down, but it's just wrong. A romantic partner is just a friend who is around more often. If you feel your life is incomplete without a romantic partner, well you're right. Assuming you enjoy the company of your friends that is.
