I wanted to upgrade from my beloved iPhone 13 mini to my first ever Pro iPhone with the 16 series until I heard that Apple will still make the phones even bigger. It’s getting ridiculous! I want the mini back!!! I will now hold on to it until the 17 series, hoping the mini will come back. If not, I will cave in and get an iPhone 17 Pro.
If you don’t mind you could try the iPhone 15 pro because they’re smaller because it shrink down the bezel so the form factor is smaller than the previous year. I don’t think the mini will ever come back.
With you 100%. iPhone 13 mini is the best phone ever made imho. I have 15 Pro Max (hate the size, but opted for the best possible camera), but I'm still keeping my 13 mini and using it in parallel. And unlike the 15 Pro Max, I will keep the 13 mini for as long as it keeps getting iOS updates, and possibly even beyond. The phone of my dreams is a mini pro.

Only reason I’m considering upgrading this year for the 16 is because my 11 Pro Max is getting slower and slower and the battery dropped below 80%. Might just replace the battery though.

I will be upgrading from the iPhone 11 Pro Max mostly for the camera upgrade which will be vastly improved compared to the iPhone 11 Pro Max. I really don’t use my phone much, even for texts if I am at home. I prefer to use my iPad Pro for texting, but I am guessing that the AI will work within iMessages for my M4 iPad Pro, right? I might be inclined to use my new iPhone more for other things like safari and notes if Siri will be more helpful. I get frustrated and annoyed with Siri now so rarely use it. I just got the iPad OS 18 public beta today and just tested out the notes improvement with making your writing more legible. Next I am going to work with the improvement to the photo app.
The only great thing about Apple Intelligence is the context awareness aspects of it. But if you think about the individual feature aspects of AI, there are lot of absolutely free apps in app store that does it which I have set up on my 12 pro max and including many Galaxy AI features. If Siri has the raw power as the Google equivalent which I still doubt it can in the first generation of Siri's AI features. Apple Intelligence is still said to be in beta when it releases in fall right? So I guess there are still lot of polishing to do. I guess Google will bring their own interpretation of context awareness of AI but Apple has the best chance to implement it with care and finesse, as they control both the hardware and software and the reason I moved into IOS from life time Android user.

That steel encased battery is a big feature - potentially they are getting ready to make it REPLACEABLE !! The EU had some legislation that requires replaceable batteries on mobile devices soon, so that's why they are probably putting the battery in a steel case, so that it can be a structural part of the case and the battery is usually the first part to need replacement.
The thing about AI is that I feel like after the hype, not many people will care for it as much as these big tech companies think. Maybe in a few years once it's matured but I honestly can't remember the last time I saw anyone use it on their Samsung or Google phone and I think with Apple AI it will be the same. People care more about hardware upgrades when getting a new phone as the software already does everything we would want from it 90% of the time. Look I might be wrong, I'm no expert but I feel something like a phone with a projector that you can cast to a wall in your home is the next big thing in mobile technology IMHO.

And then the 12 comes with 5G support and whatever else that year. Then I wanted 5G really bad because I don’t have good internet in my area. At the time the 14 pro max was just about to drop. The rumors are circulating in the days leading up to the event. Everyone is saying it’s going to be the last year that an iPhone has a lightning cable. Should I wait? Should I get 5G now and hopefully be able to play call of duty with my friends? It’s literally how electronics evolve. Incremental improvements year over year. It’s nothing personal and at the end of the day, it’s just business.

Biggest feature: cutting out the need for third party extensions, apps, services for predictive, algorithm generated user requests. Yes, please. That would actually be a "killer app", assuming it works. Its the same as you have buddy. Apples upgrades are minuet. Personally its almost you only upgrading the outer-shell. Who needs more processing power you wont really need it ever. Because your phone will mostly run on low power cpu mode to preserve battery life.
The bigger screens mixed with AI and I think the phone is going to sell very well. Will it be hard to get? Most likely no harder than it is every year. Which means not that hard to get.
If AI won’t be available till Spring, might as well wait till next Sep and get the fully-refreshed model! I might hold on to my 14 (esp since it has Dynamic Island). 🤷🏽♂️

You mean pro? The reason why only the 15 pro has it is because it has 8gb of ram and all other iPhones have 6gb or less. Same goes for iPads. Macs just need the m1 and up and have always come with 8gb or more of ram.

It's mostly for texting and phone calls right now as I've been using an older Galaxy around the house on Wi-Fi that I've acquired to watch CZcams/social media to take the stress off the 8's battery. The past few years has been procrastinating, either indecisiveness on which model was the perfect choice and then waiting for seasonal deals and then ultimately deciding to wait it out until the next September to see what may be better. 🙄 lol. ThIs year, I have already decided on the 16 Pro. I'm going with that, no matter what... ALTHOUGH, I do like what I'm hearing about the SE 4. 🤣🤣🤣
People don't love bigger phones. Can't even hold the phones with my small hands. They put all the better specs on the bigger phones instead of making a phone that works for small hands. I'm a woman who has strayed from Apple because of this. The 13 mini was even a little too big for me, but at least i could hold it. If i can't get my thumb across the phone, one- handed, then why bother.
AI seems neat and a natural progression, but I’m not sure if it’s going to be big driving factor to spend a lot of money atm. I guess we’ll see. I know I’m not *that* excited nor full of anticipation.
Fun Fact: AI wont be ready for the iPhone launch. It will come as a beta in the US later this year and in the rest of the world next year, maybe. You should never buy a device for features that are promised, only. So why should more ppl buy the iPhone 16 then… 🤔 There has to be an other reason as the promised AI and a 0.1 inch bigger screen.
I will most likely wait and probably upgrade to a 15 regular when the price goes down or hope apple releases the SE 4. The 14pro is fine. But the design and everything feels so old already. I wish they would just push the notch up. I feel theres no point with what 16 you get if AI is built in. The phone should be able to retouch photos. I just don’t want to be a higher phone bill anymore for what an iPhone is at this point. At the end of the day it’s still a phone. The one area the phones are failing in is phone calls. You can have full 5G or wifi but other people with crap service, or the actual phone hardware being spotty, has not been updated in so long. Its super annoying as well with wifi-cellular where it will drops calls when your leaving the network. Or the phone drops the call from leaving the network to wifi, or leaving wifi to cellular. Its 2024 I expect phone calls to work flawlessly with a $1000 device. Theres no excuse for the same bugs to never to be addressed in 7 years. Apple should focus on the cameras as they have been pretty similar since the 11Pro-14S. With the 15 models finally having better cameras. Battery life not addressed still. Phone Calls not addressed. Make a new contact app. Instead IOS 18 wants AI and adds more customizability which is great but it’s not making the hardware any better. We finally have RCS which makes me want to leave apple.

4gb of ram is not enough for long term, at least 6gb for all models

If you can get 15 pro cheaper, get it. The updates are very minor and iPhone 15 will also get AI support.

That would actually be a "killer app", assuming it works. Siri 2.0, Siri X, or maybe just drop the Siri name and branding, because frankly, Siri has become a bit of a lolcow relative to other digital assistants.

No.
Its the same as you have buddy. Apples upgrades are minuet. Personally its almost you only upgrading the outer-shell. Who needs more processing power you wont really need it ever. Because your phone will mostly run on low power cpu mode to preserve battery life.

The bigger screens mixed with AI and I think the phone is going to sell very well. Will it be hard to get? Most likely no harder than it is every year. Which means not that hard to get.

They killed these features on older phones, so yeah, I’m sure they’ll sell more phones. This is calculated by Apple. I can’t see any reason why phones just two generations ago couldn’t run this.. I’m sure people would be willing to wait an extra second for the calculations. Just think about this you literally have to have a iPhone 15 max to run AI is that ship that much faster than the 14’s chip? Absolutely not.
You mean pro? The reason why only the 15 pro has it is because it has 8gb of ram and all other iPhones have 6gb or less. Same goes for iPads. Macs just need the m1 and up and have always come with 8gb or more of ram.

It's mostly for texting and phone calls right now as I've been using an older Galaxy around the house on Wi-Fi that I've acquired to watch CZcams/social media to take the stress off the 8's battery. The past few years has been procrastinating, either indecisiveness on which model was the perfect choice and then waiting for seasonal deals and then ultimately deciding to wait it out until the next September to see what may be better. 🙄 lol. ThIs year, I have already decided on the 16 Pro. I'm going with that, no matter what... ALTHOUGH, I do like what I'm hearing about the SE 4. 🤣🤣🤣
People don't love bigger phones.
Can't even hold the phones with my small hands. They put all the better specs on the bigger phones instead of making a phone that works for small hands. I'm a woman who has strayed from Apple because of this. The 13 mini was even a little too big for me, but at least i could hold it. If i can't get my thumb across the phone, one- handed, then why bother.

AI seems neat and a natural progression, but I’m not sure if it’s going to be big driving factor to spend a lot of money atm. I guess we’ll see. I know I’m not *that* excited nor full of anticipation.

Fun Fact: AI wont be ready for the iPhone launch. It will come as a beta in the US later this year and in the rest of the world next year, maybe.

The 14pro is fine. But the design and everything feels so old already. I wish they would just push the notch up.
I feel theres no point with what 16 you get if AI is built in. The phone should be able to retouch photos. I just don’t want to be a higher phone bill anymore for what an iPhone is at this point.
At the end of the day it’s still a phone. The one area the phones are failing in is phone calls. You can have full 5G or wifi but other people with crap service, or the actual phone hardware being spotty, has not been updated in so long.
Its super annoying as well with wifi-cellular where it will drops calls when your leaving the network. Or the phone drops the call from leaving the network to wifi, or leaving wifi to cellular.
Its 2024 I expect phone calls to work flawlessly with a $1000 device. Theres no excuse for the same bugs to never to be addressed in 7 years.
Apple should focus on the cameras as they have been pretty similar since the 11Pro-14S.
With the 15 models finally having better cameras.
Battery life not addressed still.
Phone Calls not addressed.
Make a new contact app.
Instead IOS 18 wants AI and adds more customizability which is great but it’s not making the hardware any better. We finally have RCS which makes me want to leave apple.
