- ⭐️ GrapplingSMARTY.com ⭐️ Guard Retention is one of the most difficult skills to learn in BJJ, and it’s also arguably the most important. Whereas you ultimately NEED to practice with qualified human training partners to develop this skill under pressure, you also MUST be adept and keep perfecting these basic body movements. And while it’s entirely possible to practice these movements in the air or even against a wall, the addition of the SMARTY & Harness is a great way to add another level of realism to these solo drills by giving you a clear sense of how to position your body and limbs in relation to your opponent.
Big shout-out and credits go out to Lachlan Giles of@AbsoluteMMAStKilda and @ArielTabak for their instructional “The Guard Retention Anthology” on @BJJ.Fanatics. This is, in my experience, the most comprehensive resource on the subject, and has really helped me improve this area of my game. Thanks for putting it together!
And if you’re among the few who still don’t have a SMARTY to enhance your solo training and drill anytime, anywhere, get yours today only on

It looks like you're fighting your bdsm partner
I was like, "That's the gimp from "Pulp Fiction!'"
I love smarty! As a muay thai guy who recently added jiu jitsu I am used to doing bag/pad drills and I treat the smarty in basically the same way. I've been spending an hour every day drilling with it and I've made huge improvements and especially big improvements towards flowing from one movement to another. I can't even count the literal thousands of rear round kicks I did on pads/bags before I had coaches telling me I had a good rear round kick so I assumed that basic formula of thousands of reps + sparring with real people = skill. I have also used other training tools that I unknowingly trained bad habits with so I try to be aware of it, for example, it is easy to man-handle smarty so my focus is doing the tech slow flow or fast flow and doing it right with the min power required to do it right. My only complaint isn't actually a complaint about smarty but rather that I did a poor job stuffing it at first. The first few weeks I had daily issues with the padding settling in the arms/shoulders and legs/hips. I solved this problem by using cut up pool noodles, cutting the stuffing into small pieces and packing it tight around the pool noodles. I used the cut up pool noodle parts in the longer sections of the arms/legs and made sure to use stuffing around where the joints would be. I also used a piece of pool noodle in the torso/neck/head to keep the head straight. Now it is really realistic or as realistic as I think a grappling dummy can get
Fantastic! Looking for the similar setup to practice against Standing Passers and respective DLR, Reverse DLR, X, etc. entries. Any Grappling Dummy setups and vids for this?
If I saw this at a gym for the first time I would’ve thought why kind of kinky shit is going on in here 😂
Thinking of purchasing but can you have to GI on the dummy with the harness?
Yes, but you would have to cut two small holes in the back of the Gi for the Harness D-Rings to be exposed.
Got one
If you see this comment, should I just stick with this dummy and replace a freestanding dummy. Im on a low budget since im only 16
We created the SMARTY to be the absolute best grappling dummy on the market. So if it's possible for you, this can definitely help you improve your skills. Please find all the info on GrapplingSMARTY.com. Hope this helps! - Patrick
The next alternative upgrade of inflatables is now available 🤫

🤨
This doesnt look S&M at all
🙄
Looks like some Bondge/BDSM stuff.
"Boards don't hit back."
Neither do punching bags. but they're still a valuable training tool ;)
This video is hard to watch because of all the speeding up and slowing down. I don't think it's so much emphatic or an illustrative aid as much as it is distracting and disorienting.
Thanks for the feedback. Indeed, this subject would deserve a more in-depth tutorial, but this was just meant as an overview of how you can practice the skill of guard retention with the SMARTY & Harness. For a really detailed approach, I would recommend looking into Lachlan Gile's Guard Retention Anthology. He also has a few great free videos on CZcams on the subject. Hope this helps! - Patrick
