the most interesting period of this house in my opinion is the connection of Henry Lord Darnley who was born & grew up there. He married Mary Queen of Scots in 1565 and the present QE2 is a direct descendant from that line and the house was a centre of Northern intrigue between Catholics & Protestants during the fascinating Tudor period.
