I PUT BOX DYE TO THE TEST (IS IT REALLY THAT BAD?)

- Hi Beautiful! Today I put box dye to the test. I have always been curious if this stuff actually works. Doing a direct comparison to professional color felt like the only way I could really uncover the truth!

Thanku
You should react to my hair coloring/bleaching videos! Lol 😂
XD Loved the vid .
True, true. You alright too
Professional dye is for planned hair dyeing, box dye is for a mental breakdown
ImRoxxxyAndrews true.
𝘭𝘮𝘢𝘰𝘰.. 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘦. *;'*
That hit so much truth 🤣
Lmao thats true
Best. So true.
Brad Mondo, a professional: "Box dye is so messy and hard to use"
Everyone who's ever had a mental breakdown ever: "Weak"
Listen box dye has been wayyyy easier for me to use than the other stuff from sally's. I've also had my scalp burned by a professional, I wanted to go bright red so she had to use bleach to lift my dark brown, so after 5 hours in the salon, and all of that process I never went back. ended up going back to brown box dye because I couldn't bleach my own hair properly and didn't trust myself to do a good job lol
No have you seen how messy their bathrooms are in their videos 😹 and they’re stained face necks and hands lol
LMFAO
Nice video content! Excuse me for butting in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you tried - Millawdon Goodbye Gray Trick (search on google)? It is an awesome exclusive guide for learning how to reverse gray hair fast minus the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my close friend Aubrey after many years got great results with it.
Lovely video content! Excuse me for chiming in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you heard about - Millawdon Goodbye Gray Trick (do a google search)? It is a smashing one off guide for learning how to reverse gray hair fast minus the headache. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my mate finally got excellent results with it.
“Don’t use box dye go to a salon” gives the same energy to me as “don’t use drug store makeup book a makeup artist”
A professional thought I had my hair professionally dyed when all I did was use loreal feria on my medium brown hair. It was a very vibrant red! It looked as vibrant as the time I spent hundreds on bleaching and dying at a salon and my hair was in better condition because I didnt use bleach.
No not the same thing at all. I don't think you listened to anything he said.
@@MadNugs7no they did hear everything he said, just different opinions
so not the same thing lol
I really don’t think so. You can wipe out your makeup but hair can fall out if you mix something wrong or even get bad allergic reaction from the box dye
I don’t care which he likes better. I came to see how he applies the color.
same
Lmao
Same!
SAME!
same here bc i'm about to do my mom's for her lmfao
plot twist: brad was caught by a fan buying box dye
so he had to make this video as an excuse
Lol
Maybe
1000 like lmao
woah
OMG I DIDN'T EVEN THINK OF THAT🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Box Dye Never Did Me Wrong. But A Professional Stylist Actually Fucked My Hair
Yes ma’am!!
Wasn't a professional then If he fucked your hair.
sameeee
Just wondering. What did you ask the professional for?
This happened to my daughter.
I love how he said that the salon dye costs just as much as the box dye. Like yes, TECHNICALLY the actual product cost about the same BUTTTTT the $300 in labor makes for a BIG difference. I don't have an extra $300... so box dye it is!
You can buy that professional dye at any sally's or beauty supply and still do it yourself
@@kayleeserna4278 i have used sallys dye and walmart box dye they both do the same things.
Exactly
Who works in the salon?
I sometimes get professional stuff and do it at home myself, but yeah it's actually much more expensive bc labor and if you do use pro stuff at home you need the bowl and the brush and separate gloves etc
He could've easily used a brush to apply the box dye instead of trying to act sloppy. It's just like a corny infomercial. You've just convinced me to use the box dye.
Correct! Definitely giving "But wait... call now and we'll double your order!"
I too put the box dye into a bowel. But the fact he muddled the heads up after the rinse and then had to redo the video just makes me laugh. I think he was too busy being cooky on camera to notice his mistake
I actually used a similar Féria color last night. Shit is super watery and got EVERYWHERE.
@@silllykitten329 I just used a brand called adore. It’s semipermanent but I love it. Very inexpensive and has a hair gel like consistency.
When I worked in a salon some people would bring their own box dye and want us to apply. We charged the same amount if we used professional color and they all would be fine with that.
Many people are talking about whether brad switched the heads or not but has anybody noticed that the box dye wasn't even designed to be used on darker hair? The swatches on the side of the box dye show results on light blonde to dark blonde/light brown hair. Of course your'e not going to get as vibrant results on darker hair. This test was totally biased. Sorry Brad, even if you didn't switch the heads, it wasn't the fairest of tests.
I use box dye that's a similar colour to what he used and my hair is really dark, it always turns out great and really vibrant. Maybe it just depends on hair type but it would've made much more sense to use lighter haired mannequins.
Maybe he should have used a blond mannequin? But the color of course will look different on a real person bc you have heat and color needs body heat to develop. He's exactly right about using box dye, you don't know what you're gonna get. A lot of people don't realize it's not good to pull the color through the ends bc that can cause the hair to be over processed. Also, a lot people don't realize that you can't lift color with color. Meaning if you put a dark color on your hair you can't put a lighter color on that and get lighter hair. That's why professionals have problems with box dye.
The colour swatch on the box shows an estimate of what it would turn out on different levels of hair. Of course the colour is going to go super vibrant over blonde hair because you are darkening the hair without “filling it”. Meaning the violet pigment becomes very vibrant without depth. “Filling” is a method you use as a professional to colour someone’s hair darker if you are going 2 or more shades darker. So if you coloured your hair from a level 9 blonde and use this box dye, bitch you gonna be vibrant. But if you were a level 5 like the mannequin then it is obviously not going to be vibrant like the photo on the box.
That does not mean the box colour isnt designed for dark hair.
@@emmablack6393 Sorry, you're right, I shouldnt of said that the box dye wasnt meant for dark hair, what I meant was that comparing the dyed mannequin hair the the colour swatch on the box wouldnt be very accurate as the swatch shows results on lighter hair not darker hair.
The box shows three levels of color on the side. So it did show up correctly I have the box at home; it clearly shows how it may look depending on color, and hair type. If he wanted the exact shade then use a lighter haired mannequin, or bleach it first. I was also wondering why he didn’t use a cap? A cap helps process with body heat to really bring out that color. Also hair coloring in most places is over $40, even for a single process. I personally enjoy coloring myself with box dye or dye from Sally’s; I was taught by a stylist how to do it and it’s a great type of self care. It takes time, patience, and research.
Just wanna say the professional hair color dye is also in a box
thats what i was thinking
Bro he switched the heads.
Kara Grant i love Brad but he need to humble 🤣
Obviously that's not whats meant lol
Not all professionals hair color is in a box
Oh, come on, Brad. You didn't use the conditioner after the box die. Makes a HUGE difference.
box dye conditioner is literally SO GOOD
He's so biased.
Siss do we also shampoo while rinsing off the dye? Loreal Paris Excellence.
@@pragatikharel7569 I know this reply is late, but nope! Just rinse the color out completely with water and use the conditioner that comes with it. I usually use the conditioner on my roots along with the ends to help with damage and it doesn't tend to get greasy.
I have dyed my hair at salons and from boxes, every colour apart from platinum, and ALWAYS preferred box colour. salons cost so much and I never leave happy. the most compliments I ever got was on an espresso colour with red tones that my stylist wouldn't do because she didn't think it would be flattering. the box never judges you like that...
Sounds like the stylist is the problem
Seriously I always got compliments even from hairdressers from box dyed hair the only time I went to the salon was to go back to my natural color which was impossible to do at home
I love how you say “Just go get your hair done” as if the average middle class person has the money to spend $80-$200 on getting their hair colored. Some people just can’t afford it!!
Ikr! I’ve never had my hair done at a salon or professionally, but I’ve heard a lot of people I know saying that they payed a lot of money to get their hair dyed, only for it to turn out mediocre at best. And I don’t know about anyone else, but whenever I’ve dyed my hair from box dyes it always turns out looking really good.
I mean... We don't need to dye our hair. But if you insist, look into semi permanent dyes. Conditioning dyes like overtone and Arctic Fox are long lasting as long as you care for them correctly. Can't speak for overtone, but Arctic fox is easy to care for. Stick to a gentler shampoo, and wash with Luke warm water.
Brad should get you in and do your hair for you 😊. You get your hair done and he gets increased traffic, likes & subs 😊😉😚
Yeah i went to a salon to get a mix of dark purple and red and it was so shitty it was all dark Brown and it was 80€ wasted and i'm still mad about it
A great hair stylist saved my hair about I really fucked up my hair with box dye. It really depends on your stylist and being honest about your budget. Because if you mess your hair up you may have to fork the money over for a professional. I think he’s saying just go get your hair done because he’s not saying do it if your broke, but more saying if you are going to dye it, go to a professional
All of us box dye girls know if it says 25 minutes, you do 35-40
Hahaha guilty here
"Box die girls" omg i love you, finally found a group in which i belong 🥰🥰
Yeah ofc 😂
Period.
I'm a full 60 minutes girl... GET IN THERE COLOR!!!
You can tell it was switched because the box dye scalp was more red and when he rinsed it he switched sides and pretended like the box dye was bad 💀
I noticed it right away, too!
Also noticed that right away
I wish Brad Mondo would address one of these comments. Are we missing something? Was it an accidental switch?
Yeah I could tell right away because of the scalp.
Yeah I was like am I going crazy?
I find this test interesting, because I used a “professional” dye from Sally’s and it did not take at all. I used a box dye from Walgreens and the color is bright and it’s weird because my curls seem healthier. I could tell which mannequin was the box dye, because the scalp was stained so I’m not sure how he managed to mix the mannequins.
I've been trying to use Sally's dye as well and it doesn't take, im on the next step of trying box dye and it took well just like your experience too! Sometimes it doesn't matter what you use, it just matters if it makes you happy.
sallys isnt actually professional hair color anyways :P
what hair dye was it?
the non professional one
Box dye is good if you’re dying it however if you’re trying to bleach your hair after having previous box dye, it won’t really lift
there are two types of people in this world: those who were born in box dye households and those who were born in salon households.. and it shows
i came from a box dye household and i can relate
I came from a call ur tia to do your hair household
I came from the "I dont dye my hair cause its shit quality" household
@@villanshi for real. I've had many hair cuts, colors, and perms in the kitchen from my tia. Not sure to this day if she's actually a licensed stylist or not. 😂
I'm 3: born in a box dye from cvs house hold but uses professional dye from sallys 😳
Proof he *did* switch the mannequins:
At 9:39, go full screen and look at the "professional" hair colour (on the right). You can faintly see a mark on the lower part of the chin. The other doll does not have this mark.
At 16:50, Brad is still claiming this is the "professional" hair colour. (You'll have to pause before the chin get's covered by hair) But there is no mark on the chin.
At 19:35, you can see the chin mark on the now "box dye" hair colour.
So, I guess box dye is better than professional after all.
Omg you’re so right I thought how weird it was at how strong the box dye looked and then all of a sudden it was barely visible yet the profession one was so vibrant
Known for decades that box color is both easier to use and less expensive to maintain, which is why some pros fear it.
Theone Thompson and at 13:05 you can see the dye that got on the mannequin that he claimed was the profesional dye's neck for the box dye
Wow
and the box dye mannequin has a red scalp, the "professional" mannequin does when he shows them, and the "box dye" one doesn't
Why are stylists so snobby about "professional " hair dye? Most of use can't afford to drop $150 every other month
I went to Cosmetology and we were told to always use professional everything. Not sure why? But I think whatever you decide to use and if it works good for you then use it. Stylists are professional so they want your business. Lol But some products are not good for you because of the chemicals. They want you to be safe!
@@margaretcordova3268 I had my hair so called professionally coloured but omg never again! Fade so bad after 2 weeks!!!!
@@user-ln4qe1sh8iI believe that! I am still a cosmetologist but I have seen a lot of scams. One man made one of his clients believe he had hair loss for years so he could keep buying a product from him for hair loss! The stylist had accidentally cut a bald spot in the guys hair!
@@margaretcordova3268 that's awful! Another hairdresser recommended a shampoo and conditioner that actually contains SFS that stripped the colour too. Tbh, the experience of having my hair done is no longer enjoyable, just can't find a hairdresser who understands or who I trust with my hair 😕
@@margaretcordova3268 just to also add, Holland and Barrett in the UK do some amazing hair colourants which claim to be more natural, tbh my hair always gets compliments so I stick with colouring my own hair now and I save so much money not using hairdressers.
Box dye has always made my hair healthier and last longer than professional. Professional color never stopped running in the shower and it left my hair dull and brittle. The colorist was professional and had good results but consistently I have the same results from professionals.
Exactly. Used to dye my hair vibrant colours and I stopped going to salons for it REAL fast. Had a short hiatus from dying my hair, then decided I wanted to go ginger. Went to a salon to get a balayage just so I could see the colour first and then have it have more dimension once I went fully ginger, and I swear one wash and I was blonde. This girl was the manager and had YEARS of experience too. Dyed my hair with box dye and it immediately felt a lot better and actually stuck.
Edit: I straight up told this woman Lucille Ball and made her mix a colour in between two light shades and it still came out the same red as in this video. That's more of a her issue but no salon I've gone to has given me the same thing I get from a box.
That has always been my experiance as well!
Same
Brad: the professional was $19
The box was $13
That’s a $5 difference
Me: Brad has his own kinda math. Home boy it’s $6
Still that 6 dollar could buy me a lot of chicken nuggets
Trin&EL wat da
That brand in the U.K is only around £5, he paid double O_O
Who cares
I was going buy that Feria hairdye today which is why I watched this video lol Feria at Target its only $8.99 😅 he must be going off them CVS prices 😂
I have dyed my hair with cheap store “box” dye for 20 years. When I go to hair dressers they ALWAYS compliment my color and the healthiness of my hair. When I tell them I use store dye and do it myself they are always shocked. My hair is one of my best attributes.
What brand do you use? I wanna box dye my hair but I’m not sure which one would be the least damaging😭
@@maritzarodriguez3717 I use Loreal, but I have to admit I don't bleach my hair AND I never change out of the red range of colors. I never go brown then red then black or anything like that. I stick to the shades of red.
AMBER JOERS Which L’Oréal product line do you use? They have several!
Same here. I have used L'oreal Excellence and Feria for over 25yrs. All hair stylists are SHOCKED that's what I use and love the outcome and health of my hair, too
@@LoveABun Feria
You switched the mannequin heads to make it look like the professional hair dye worked better. Also nice classism 👍 Not everyone can afford salon haircuts and hair dyes and people shouldn't be shamed for using box dye.
Bestie im hairstylist and it doesn’t fake. They are professionals dyes very cheaps so shut up
@@LaloOlveraaa LMFAO, he himself said he switched the sides, so the box dye was better so whats ur point 🤡
@@LaloOlveraaa He said himself afterwards that the switched them Lol, you need to shut up.
@@LaloOlveraaa Also a stylist, bestie. We tested Feria in hair school and unfortunately, it is very good box dye.
If you’re going to use box dye, just don’t bleach it or go to different colours and you’ll be fine. If you’re going to lighten your hair, just wait and save. If you have the money to buy box dye, bleach, an products to make your hair look healthy because it’s not anymore, you have the money to either save up for a professional to do it, or to buy premium quality products. As well as styling/haircuts.
The real issue is people don’t have patience, they want everything now.
They don’t want to wait. So people use not being “able to afford” as an excuse for themselves. If you have the money to buy, you have the money to set aside and build up over time.
For a better hair result.
I've always use that specific box dye colour. I've always had compliments, even from hair stylists. In my profile photo, I have box dye hair colour and received so many compliments from it. I knew automatically that it was switched. You should've admitted you liked the box dye or admit you messed up before people called you out on it as you just dug a bigger hole and had people question if you are legit or not.
In my opinion ( as a broke student) boxed dye isn’t as bad as people think. It does a pretty good job for coverage.
LLAMA QUEEN l
Definitely, you just have to watch out for what brands you use. Garnier dye (no idea how to spell it) actually made my hair feel soft and healthier after I used it.
I've used a lot of different brands when I used to color my hair and my favorite was this exact one he just used. I always found it to be very vibrant, used to get a lot of compliments. In fact a few people said I should go back to that color but after coloring my hair for roughly 30 yrs I'm so over the upkeep lol
Especially Korean Box Dyes! They have never done my asian hair wrong. Also their scent is like shampoo, no burning sensation on the scalp, and the color lasts for around three months. Which is reasonable for their price. The Korean dyes have many colors which suits dark hair. The effect is more like a tint especially under the sun which i think is beautiful. Very subtle but you know it's there
@@cat_astrophe1440 any specific brand recommendations?
As someone who uses that exact box dye I agree 100% with everyone saying he switched them
He even said it'd be awkward if the box did better... Ha!
I use that extract hair Dye and I have darker hair and it comes out a lot brighter so it’s definitely switched
@Naire K Its still human hair though, I've never seen anyone get that result with that colour of box dye, even people with darker or thinner hair, myself included
Also the scalp colour was darker on the box dye total switch
Same!! Definitely switched . My hair is way closer to the “professional”
I use that box dye all the time.... I know what it turns out like and he definitely switched the heads. Hair stylists hate box dye because they don’t wanna admit you don’t need them and can do it yourself cheaper
Yeah no.... u gotta measure that shit out, get a separate developer, ran out halfway through but yet the box dye was harder to use???? This was super biased :/ also, was the developer factored into the price? I don't think it was, but that would make it even more expensive.
good point i don’t think it was
Yikes. I feel really embarrassed as a professional.
Few points. The colors you chose were not that similar, the wella color you got is a dark violet. The box dye looked like a red violet.
That's how I can tell the heads were switched.
Second. Box dyes make hair look shiny (depending on the brand) because of the ingredients, such as metallic salts and whatnot, but they eventually do dull down.
I hate box dyes because the damage from them is pretty harsh and the effects of using box dyes with bleach is scary, that's why clients always have to be honest about it.
But come on Brad, any professional can tell those were switched. Big yikes from me.
I don’t know why he didn’t address it... it seems like he doesn’t care for his audience
Dude he definitely switched them. I was thinking about that the whole time towards the end
He could have been honest and shocked but could have explained the risks of box dye.
On the "salon dye" finished mannequin, you see the exact red stain that was on the "boxed dye" mannequin... these were definitely switched.
@@miriahjaeomie exactly
I'd like to see you do a battle of the box dye! Compare all the major drugstore brands and find out which is worse/best. You could really (nut) milk it too and do like a whole video per colour group like blacks, blondes, brunettes etc and just end up spending the whole video just reading them all to the ground!
Finding “the best” box colours would basically be promoting drugstore hair colouring, which is what a hairstylist never wants to do. Yes, it would be nice to know which box colour would be the best red, cool brown, blonde... everyone wants to save a buck. But those same penny-pinching people will be the ones that come into the salon when they decide they want a big change that can’t be done at home after using these awful dyes and expect us hairstylists to magically do exactly what they want because box colour and Pinterest make it sound/look easy. Drugstore hair colour is harsh, overly-potent and full of ammonia and that is why it is CHEAP.
That being said, I’d love to see a follow up video of him trying to lighten these box colours out of the hair, just to show how much the colour molecules cling to the hair shaft after busting straight through it with that much ammonia.
Emily Lavis OMG YES!
@@wonky-t-wonk this!!! Especially with blonde
Bad and boring idea! No offense. And I agree with Emma! Not trying to hate btw lol
I've been doing mine for 27 years with box dye. Loreal i think is best.
I will say, I genuinely love the conditioner that comes in that box dye. I've been looking for it without getting the colour because I love it so much. 😂
I could easily save it for you. I always throw it away.
Lol me too!!! Why don't they just sell the conditioner separately?
Because the conditioner is actually a processor? At least that's what I was told by Revlon's customer service when I called with questions about a year ago. They explained (from their scripted talking points) that the conditioner actually acts as an activator or final step in the hair dying process and is necessary for locking in the color. I'm reading all of these comments about ppl dying their hair every two weeks, leaving the color on for an hour, and skipping the conditioner, but actually following the directions will bring greater results with less damage and less need for follow-up.
As a person who has been coloring her hair longer than you have been alive, I can say that I have tried all three ways to color. Box, professional, and getting it done by a professional. My hair is long. I mean down to my butt long. (until 2 days ago so it is about 10 inches shorter now) My original color is that gross old lady gray, you know, like the gray color of the undercoat of a cat, with some strands of silver here and there. I actually started turning gray when I was about 17. That sounds bad but my male cousin started going bald about that age and it is much cheaper and easier to color than to get hair transplants. So, with my long hair it cost about $120 with a trim and color. It looked great, it felt great, it was super shiny... and then I washed it. I ended up with my regular hair minus $120 and 2 hours of my life. I decided about 15 years ago to start using professional hair color that I bought at Sallys. 2 boxes of color, 1 bottle of #20 and a bottle *GASP* a bottle? It was about $25 but I only used some of the #20 and a total of 1 1/2 of color.so we'll say $20. Good color, easy to use, just as smelly. Then, the dreaded box color. $8. I didn't have to buy anything else so... $8. The box and Sallys was the same application. The color almost identical as the box. I use a conditioning mask after each color which is almost the same cost of the box so add another $7. My main point (yes, there is one) is the application. You don't just blob it on. You draw a line of color through each part then use your fingers to spread the color instead of a brush. You're right. If it is your first time it may surprise you, but after that first time you figure out how to use the box correctly or end up going to a salon. I'm good with the box.
Hi, I’m 16 and starting to get grey hair... hence why I’m learning about hair dyes. What would you recommend? Box dye or professional dye? What do you do to keep your hair shiny and smooth? I’m so afraid of it turning ugly and having to depend on products to keep it pretty as it was two years ago. I’m pretty low maintenance so I don’t want to spend hours at the salon every time my roots start showing, specially because I’ll have to keep doing this for so many years. Please I’m desperate.
@@alguiennose6330 Start with streaks. It's a pain at first, but follow the directions and it will look super cute! Don't go all in until you have to. I was probably 30 when I started to go full head. Don't go too far from your natural color. Keep it simple and the colors will blend well together. You will look great :)
Besides the stains, you can tell they are switched because he scrubbed the box dye into the mannequin head and the one he said is “professional” has a completely stained scalp
omg I thought I'm a nut but he actually changed it didn't he?🤔
It’s a mannequin they easily stain unless you rub it off fast I’m guessing he fucked up their foreheads whilst washing them but I could tell the box color just washes off tbh I should know I’ve used that specific box hair dye it looks pretty when wet but when you wash off it looses all the color
Professional dye stains your scalp for longer in my opinion, and I've dyed mine various shades of red and purple over the years!
everyone in the comments out here saying that he switched the heads while im just looking to see if anyone noticed that 19 minus 13 does not equal 5.
Thank you!
I noticed LOL
Ahaha I was scrolling through just to see if anyone else noticed aha
I know right!
This is the comment I was looking for! 😂
"pros" always bad mouth box dye because they want your money. You do have to use a toner with it or it goes brassy but still cheaper than a salon. Once I started getting hard core gray I had to upgrade to professional dye, it covers it a little better.
yes heads switched. first i could tell the colors he picked weren’t the same and actually there were some better matching colors either more violet or more brown at each store he could have chosen. the salon color is much more flat on the picture and less metallic than the picture on the boxed dye. i agree with messy application. If brad had ever used box he’d know that you dye your own scalp, and he would also know that your water runs red for quite a few showers as the dye that didn’t stick originally comes out. that is why the redder box dye looks so vibrant initially and why he likes it better (and we like it better!) I have used this exact color.
My box die has never done me dirty. Try not switching the heads next time too...
noticeddd that one only the not im glad Im
EXpOsED 💀
Wait what?
Misty Stone dye lol
Glad I wasn't the only one that noticed
A lot of box dyes now have very little smell. It depends what brand you get. And the little conditioner that you get is awesome.
Also, he legit put his face IN THE BOX DYE HAIR to say it had fumes. I didnt see that with the other one. Maybe it was cut, b/c his reaction, but I dunno. 🤨
Dannette girl fr the conditioner is fantastic!
Ikr wish they would sell the little conditioner separately in a bigger version
Well I've been using temporary box dye for years and I've enjoyed it. It's fun to change my hair how I want, when i want rather than have to pay for it. Stop being classist, you swapped the mannequins
Oh my god yeah, everyone in these comments are so privileged, not everyone can afford to go to a salon whenever they want
Hey, do you get a developer separately than what it comes with the dye? I need a 10 developer instead of a 20. Can I still use the box dye color with the 10 developer? Thank you!!
WOW. I used this EXACT Feria box dye 2 days ago and I got the EXACT results seen on the Professionally Dyed head here... My hair is SO VIBRANT and violet! If the heads weren't accidentally switched, you must be terrible at using box dye, somehow. That's probably good? To not be skilled at using a cheaper, more damaging product with a crazy bottle applicator .... But what the hell Brad Mondo!!! I'm an average joe compared to your skills and my color is POPPIN! Literally POPPIN! From BOX DYE lol but seriously, I think the heads were mistakenly switched, and I can only say this because I am actual living proof, of the results, being on my own brown-headed head. Love you Brad Mondo! I'm going back to binging your videos and maybe I'll see you testing another product I've used before, or testing a product I have yet to try 😘
What's the name of the color? I want something exactly like this
"Mistakenly"
IF it was switched it wasn’t mistaken. He just would never admit the box dye is better.
time stamps for those trying to compare lol
5:32 - Box dye has darker brown eyeshadow, professional has lighter eyeshadow
12:45 - Box dye now has the lighter eyeshadow, and the professional has the darker brown eyeshadow
he just needs to call it a win for the box dye and label it better in the future
THE BRIGHT RED HAIR IS THE BOX DYE.... Its obvious she has the red line down her scalp and the mark near her forehead you tried to wipe away... What the hell
Yep
He tried to wipe away dye on the Box Dye one, so the one with the red line and mark. That one is the one that he gave the 12 score to.
YESSS. I noticed it too.
Camille Rahman I was thinking they got switched too, and he just forgot which was which... that’s my guess🤷🏼♀️
Its actually purple colored box dye but yes
I use that Feria, and you really need to use their shampoo and conditioner after you color, which isn't normal, but it's SO strong, you've gotta wash it. Mine comes out shiny, soft and comes out the perfect Auburn I like!
“I don’t understand why this isn’t alway pre mixed already”
Me: because it will expand in the bottle and explode which is what happened to me when I use to dye my hair or bleach it
He wasnt talking about the peroxide, he meant the serum/oil that fame with it
and i think it might have to do with the metallics and the chemical life of metallics.
Could you do this again and do a different box dye colour every time? Like one time do a bleaching process vs a box dye bleaching process? This could be a good series!
Ooooooo I loooove that idea!!!
This is great I hope he does it
*HERES THE TEA*
he switched the damn heads.
At 11:39 you can clearly see the stain he made on the box dye doll’s neck when pretending to struggle with it.
Then you can see the same faded stain at 13:15 on the PROFFESIONAL ONE sksksksksksk
Edit: thank you for all the likes! I feel so appreciated lol
this comment needs to seriously be farther up! Upvote this comment!!!
also the next biggest tell is at 7:00 when you can see the fact NOTHING IS ON THE NECK OF THE PROFESSIONAL IN THE SAME SPOT!
TRUE!
The scalp was also red when the other was purple. But he probably mixed them up after washing the hair and decided not to reshoot. They looked exactly the same when they were wet. Can't think of a reason he would purposefully switch them. The camera doesn't show the detail he was talking about and his opinion could've been exaggerated no matter which head he was judging.
Ok, if he switched it, I think it was an accident. I don;t see him as a liar....c'mon darling Brad! Tell us it was an accident :(
Been using box dye for almost 40 years. It's easy, it works, usually buy on sale for eight bucks. I use a brush and bowl with a fancy cape. My hair is white AF and roots need dyed every three weeks. I'd be broke.
The professional dyes I buy fade to fast! The L'oreal Feria last so much longer and it made my hair so soft and silky and so healthy. I love it!!!
I was SO excited for this video until I read the comments about him switching the heads.
Ruhma Noor POTATO!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
Ruhma Noor
So was I!!!! 😂😂😂
Same here
Me too ! I genuinely wanted to see if it was good 😭 literally buying some tomorrow omg
They weren’t switched don’t worry. When he’s done blow drying and showing off and judging them you can see the mark on the middle of the forehead where he accidentally dropped some of the box dye onto the mannequins head. As for the staining on the head they both have staining in similar spots.
People are saying you switched the mannequins around and looking at the colors, I agree. I use that box color on my hair and it looks how your “professional” one turned out. And the “box” color looks like the swatch for the professional color.
the box dye had no stains on the head only the pro side
Same, used that same exact box dye and it looked more like the "pro". I had a similar hair color of the mannequin heads and was actually disappointed with how red it was verse purple lol
Danielle Gootee oh man 😂🤣😂😂
Your hair isn’t even a comparison, why bring it up? You hair is a completely different starting colour from the mannequins so your all going to have different results. Just because yours looks more like one colour than the other does not mean it’s the same colour!
This is exactly why people who use box dye will end up in a stylists chair at a point in their life saying “it’s not the colour I wanted it to go and now I can’t cover it”
Natalee Marie umm, how do you know what color i started with? I have used that box color on various colors and get consistent results.
Also, you don’t have to tell me about how people end up seeing a professional seeing as how Im in cosmetology school. We use wella at my school and his “box” colored mannequin looks how a wella 3V looks.
My hair looks gorgeous and i dye my hair with box dye too
I've dyed my hair for 25 years with box dye and they always look amazing and always get compliments. People ask where I got it done and I say I used a hair dye and it leaves my hair so soft ! Love the box dye and it's never damaged my hair , also color last a very long time . The smell is strong but I'm used to it
The right box die is everything. The Feria brand he used always works for me with every shade I've tried, but I've had some misses with other brands. So it depends. Also, he clearly switched heads. The one he loved had red stains all over it from that drippy stuff. Shame on Brad.
Yes nowadays they come without ammonia. It's faster than putting on makeup. My hair actually feels stronger since I started using box dye
I went to a salon ONCE for blonde highlights (I had REGULARLY bleached my hair at home and had nearly white hair in HS) and she fried my hair for $130. It was literally breaking off and I had to cut it all off 🥲
Same happened to me..... professional colorist fried my hair...... never trust another on my hair again
Just had a similar scary experience at a salon.
Same here, I had pieces of my scalp falling off 😓 Not to mention she still charged me almost $300.
Same here, I had to get a pixie cut after a stylist fried my hair at the roots. I paid over $200.
When a hair stylist doesn't want to admit that box dye is better!!! DEAD!!!!!
CourtneyLynM girl the thing is you should be able to see all licenses for things like hair and no one can find his license.
@@jessicaweaver5216 Nooo fucking way. Tbh not surprised after he ruined Snitchery's hair....
CourtneyLynM no exactly it’s public record and it’s NO WHERE! His dad owns a salon and what’s where he got it I think tbh
Box dye is definitely NOT better lol. I do completely believe he switched these though. I’m a licensed professional as well and it was obvious the heads were switched but there are reasons the box dye looks better but doesn’t mean it’s better for the hair. This whole thing was executed poorly.
The makeup gives it away😂😂😂
You switched the mannequins though and said the last mannequin was the best, and therefore the box dye is the best....
I can't afford £100+ just to color my hair by professionals every month or so...box dye is the answer to my prayers. I love using it
I have to add when it comes to the professional hair color, you have to account the cost of things like the application brush, bowls and gloves. I know that people who use box dye don't usually have those on hand (which is one of the factors to get a box kit) compared to people who regularly use the professional stuff, so that's an added expense to consider.
You know, we can tell that he wasn't lying about what he thought of each color because he accidentally switched the heads without knowing it, so he actually said bad things about the professional dye...
The reveal made me laugh😂
He totally did that on purpose because he knew the box dye looked better. He just thought we wouldn’t notice
Wait when did he do this-
I noticed that too! Because the scalp was red from the box dye being so red and then in the reveal the professional dye scalp was red. They were definitely switched!
Because Loreal box makes hair very shiny actually, I use it to shine my hair 😁
Omg, BRAD that HAIR tho!
Edit- Who else thought he was going to dye his own hair? Just me? Ok.
For the box dye, did you use the conditioner that goes with it? Because usually that’s what helps to add the shine.
"that would be akward if it was the opposite" 🤦🏼♀️😭😭😭
Embarrassing 💀
I love how everyone is talking about how he switched the heads but now about the fact that he can’t do math. 19-13=5 apparently.
He also has very poor economic skills too. On weekly specials and using coupons you can get a box dye for $5 each. I usually buy Schwartzkoft box brand and I wait till Walgreens has their weekly ad special for $7.99 per box deal, use the coupon of $3 off, and even use the additional 15% off Walgreens discount card number... after it all it is under $4.50 per box. Walgreens isn't a coupon hater either, so I restock on them boxes. Buy 10 of them for the next 5 months. Waaaaayyyy cheaper than the professional. The only time I buy a professional tube is when I have no time to lighten (aka bleach) and color the hair, so I buy Igora highlights by Schwartzkoft which lightens and deposits color the same time... but for medium or darker toned hair color I use box dyes, especially Garnier and Herbtint.
It’s actually 6 19-13=6
I noticed that too which is ironic because I'm awful at math
@@purplelobster1279 tristan was saying that brad thought that 19-13=5, i dont think she/he actually thought that
For a second I was like wait it's not 5 I am literally dumb
don’t get me wrong, i love brad but he swapped the heads and then talked shit about the professional one because he thought it was the box dye💀
No he didn't
Jessica_TheFreak he did he admitted it on his instagram
@@iikou3925 on a post? i can't find it
For real??
Wait really?
Honestly I use that exact color of box dye and I literally just died my hair an hour ago. It is very shiny and healthy looking, it looks like the color on the box as well.
Heads were switched and I used this exact color and brand yesterday. And it’s a beautiful deep red/purple. And I love it.

Where
Pause at @13:01 , you can clearly see the red dye that was smeared all over the doll head's neck and stained it on the box dye doll. Yet he claims this doll is the professional dye. 🤔 it's very clear the doll heads were switched. Hopefully he didn't do this intentionally, because if not- thats shady af and dishonest.
Sarah Marie3 I just don’t get how he could do that on accident.
@@JenDoe777 That's exactly what I'm thinking. Which makes me so sad. That's so dishonest. Like how tf am I gonna trust his recommendations now?! 😣
Sarah Marie3 yeah. That’s really sad. And he’s on twitter laughing that people are mad. I don’t get it.
Jennifer S He seems like a big fruity baby so of course he is
I noticed the smudge of dye on the neck of the box dye mannequin too. Yet the same smudge did appear to be on the neck of professional dye mannequin when he was blow drying it. Maybe he did get the heads mixed up 😂
I appreciate all the videos he does about home dye because my hair is super long and I've had salons try to charge me over 200 for a beach wave perm, mine may not be the best but you do what you can with what you've got
I LOVE BRAD MONDO!! he is not a person he is a whole mood
Pause on 12:26 and you can see the box dye has a red line on the forehead. And if you go to 13:08 the "professional" hair dye has a red line on the forehead all of a sudden
Desiree Quintana it looks like a different line but 🤷🏼♀️
Panic! At The Addison no its the same line for sure xD
Yeah the same line just faded cuz of the wash :d
I didn't want to believe it, but after watching closely several times I do think he switched them! If you look at 9:12 there is a spot on the "pro" mannequin's chin (on the viewer's left side of the chin) and after he rinses, the mark is gone on the "pro" mannequin but can be seen on the "box dye" mannequin at 14:07 (and other places if you watch carefully). Also, if you look at the hair swatch at the store at 4:26 it looks much closer to the final result of the so-called "box dye" mannequin in the end- a cooler plum versus red plum. It totally could have been accidental, but I agree these heads were switched! And the box dye actually won!
Yes I agree you can definetly tell he switched the mannequin doll heads
“would have been really awkward for me if it was... opposite” *uh oh sisters*
My go to color is Loreal Paris Feria R48. It comes out like a mulled red wine every time. I’m absolutely in love with it. I’ve also had 2 different hair dressers (from 2 different salons) tell me I did a really good job. I’ve also found Loreal to be kind to my hair, and it actually smells good when you mix in the shine serum.
a video for the common people lol jk love you brad! im watching this with a walmart bag on my head waiting for my box dye to set 😂
I started dying my own hair at 13.... watching him struggle so hard to figure out box dye hurts. Also NEVER scrub box dye into your scalp like shampoo wtf 🤦🏻♀️
Who cares its a mannequin
Right I've been using box dye for 10 years... his struggle... mmm hunny no
Exactly, and when he applied with just the bottle. I've never done that. Always a bowl and one of the brush things.
@@delaneystar It's a lot faster with the application bottle. For all over color, yes a brush would be more consistent and making sure you're getting every inch of the head. But because its a mannequin it doesn't matter. The only time I use a bottle is when im toning client's hair.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
12:29 The box dye has a stain at the top left forehead.
You see the same stain at 13:09.
So the box dye is way more red. He switched the heads. It could have been an accident but idk.
i think he just wanted to be right 🙄🙄
Omg yes...
He said on his insta it was an accident
stillkayla ok good i was sorta ab to not trust him. does that mean box die is better then???
julia ann yea I also used box dye and its actually rlly good it smelled like toxins but it's been a few months and it's still vibrant
I tried that exact L’Oréal color. The red was only seen in the sun. I’m indoors more often. Also like said. It was dull and not shiny.
Do you think I’d spend 75$-200$+ on hair dye at the salon or 7$-20$ on box dye that can look just as good (maybe even better) if done correctly 😂
Brad.... WE CAN SEE THE STAINS!!!! they don't lie and the vibrancy does not lie either
Next time you do this, write ‘box’ and ‘prof’ on their heads please
Lol
Yes
Janice Hearts yeah. I wish he would have done something like that because it’s pretty obvious that they were switched but there’s not much real proof
Janice Hearts
Yes, and and he can likely write off the cost of "ruining" the expensive heads (ruined by writing on them) when he files his taxes next year.
Great idea! He should redo this video & do it that way so there will be no doubt whatsoever which is the box dye & which is the pro dye........
I'm so impressed you stayed clean as you applied the dyes!!! I would have had to wear an old t-shirt and sweats!!!
I really love box dye. Some of my friends have used it and looked so good and did not hurt their hair. I also highlighted my hair with box dye and loved the results. Not sure why he is do determined to hate box dye, I love it and its so affordable.
Is the box dye permanent? Or does it fade away within washes?
@@danaalahmadani6884 I pretty sure it says on the box but I did search it up once and it said that all type of non natural (Pink blue ect) will fade away but it didn’t say if it was for box dye or “professional” dye but I’m guessing it’s for both
Darker colors are most likely not going to wash out, so beware of that if you don't want it permanent. My sister colored her hair black and it didn't wash out, but she was fine with that. Just depends on if you want a temporary color or not
Wow! You actually switched the heads... I was hoping the comments were wrong but it’s so obvious! The stains were a clear giveaway and so were the colors! The “professional” hair dye was much darker and you even pointed that out in the beginning of the video. Why lie and not just admit that you were wrong and actually preferred the box dye? The “professional” dye looked terrible and you knew it. You know what they say, never judge a book by its cover... especially if you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about.
Also...why using these coloures on these heads...I mean You can see bit difference in the end. Maybe doing bigger coloure jump
Well. Being that I’m a master colorist. One that specializes in Wella. Wella Tango is not the professional line. It’s a mix line at Sally’s. Anyone can get it.
He should have used Wella Koleston Perfect 55/46 and 44/65 equal parts at 3% (10 vol) would have matched the box color image perfectly only more vibrant.
Also the way he applied was ridiculous. Especially with his mid shaft ends then roots comment. When going LIGHTER it’s in back off scalp through ends then on scalp. Going darker or same level with a color shift you start in front on scalp to midshaft then back through the ends.
Old sayin “light in back off and through; dark in front on and to”.
The information he was giving about why box dye is bad vs salon color is true. It’s designed for thick coarse resistant hair. Because it will work on everyone. The blonde box dyes are usually meant for 75% gray or more or blondes that naturally sit between a level 7 and lighter (7-10).
Google the feria box its 30 minutes bot 25 one more lie he didnt apply it as good as the proffessional its not an honest revieuw at all
@@JonScottWontStop That's an awesome review reply and actually very helpful. Thank you!
JonScottWontStop was literally going to point out that Wella isn’t a professional color myself.
I think the lesson we can all take from this is: box dye works just fine (most of the time) and hairstylists just tell us it’s terrible so they can get more clients which=more money
Yes and no. If you alternate between box and professional it’s going to be very difficult to change your color. It’s also more damaging than professional cokor
It also depends on hair type and what style someone is going for.
Box dye is more damaging but if tou research conditioning methods and learn how to tell when your hair needs a break it isn’t horrendous
Absolutely! That's a marketing tactic.
Brad OMG your hair looks so beautiful and very aquaaaa tropical 🏝 vibes okkk I love it🤩
OH MAH BRAD I LUV UR HAIR!! MY MOM WATCHES U ON FACEBOOK!! SHE GOT ME OBSESSED WIT U
i normally don’t comment stuff like this, but it’s a BIG pet peeve of mine how he’s acting like the box dye is so hard to understand, a scam, ridiculous, dangerous, etc. when that’s the only way MANY women have ever done their hair.. some people don’t have the money to get their hair professionally done, and they honestly don’t see a need to. not to mention the fact that he switched the heads, so CLEARLY the box dye wasn’t nearly as bad as he thought... lol what a joke.
Hes only acting that way cause hes a professional. Im in hair school right now and were supposte to recommend people to do professional color so we build clients and get tips. But I totally agree, if you dont have the money, some box dyes are way better and last WAY longer than professional.
Autumn Akumu i totally agree, but from what i’ve seen, he doesn’t even do professional work 🤷🏻♀️ a lot of people even question if he can’t even actually do hair 😂 but yes, i definitely agree with you!
*can
I used to be so broke I did my hair with three dollar box dyes. went to a highly recommended pro and she burned my hair off nearly bald. it's been two years and my hair still isn't back to its original condition or length.
ok but he literally explained that you can pay roughly the same amount for professional hair colour + developer and do it yourself????
my mum has always used box dye and bc i started out dying my hair w fashion colours i was already familiar w mixing and measuring etc. so when i went to more normal colours i used professional colour.
my mum ends up spending more money and time than i do re dying hair bc i just have to mix the amount i need for roots (i'm aware you can find box root touch ups too but its hard to exact match your colour and imo its usually overpriced for what it is).
Not to mention all the extra nasty shit in box dye + all that colour build up from re dying the whole head.
also the fact that my mum's hair never comes out quite the way she wants and mine does?
Anyway, box dye is "the only way MANY women have ever done their hair" because of marketing (you dont see adverts for professional colour) and the fact that you can find it in the supermarket. The label "professional" makes it seem scary to regular users.
“I will be giving this box dye a very fair test and I will not sabotage it”
*switches the heads*😭😂
I noticed the same thing! When he was dying them he cleaned all the dye off the forehead for the box dye, while the professional dye one had staining on the forehead. But when he was reviewing them it was the opposite.
Shaylynn White Actually it was the opposite of that but yes 😂😪
@@shaylynnwhite177 Omg!
Ok at first I thought he switched them, even watched a recreation but then 19:35 you can see the box dye sure has the mark on the forehead and neck. And there professional is more vibrant so idk...
He didn't switch head but keep running your mouth 🖕👍👍👍
So I know this is a really old post now, but I have to say I'm probably going back to box after my last professional salon job. I paid $140 for a single full head color... Nothing else... And she left so much dye on my skin TWO DAYS before my vacation that people thought I did it myself at home instead of going to a salon! How embarrassing that I've actually done a better job myself at home 😭
I have been dying my hair using box dye for 25 years and I gotta say watching you use boxed dye for the first time was as hilarious as watching someone change a diaper who had never done it before. LMAO!! THanks for the laugh!!
"I was actually really rooting for the box dye" sure you were Brad, sure.
Bruh ik and he literally talks shit on it the whole time 😂
He should do a vid where he doesn’t know what dye he’s using, box and professional
Gucci gang Lover 1234 yesss, that’s a great idea, that way he can give an unbiased critique
Yeah... And just use a brush for both.
Is it even possible to do a blind demo for this? The consistency, color and timing were way different between the box dye and the professional dye. I think he’d know the difference even if someone else mixed them and handed them to him.
That would be great
i literally just bought the cheap hair dye for a mental breakdown and this is making me wanna do it again
As someone prone to mental breakdown dying and also just using box dye bc salons don’t carry fun colors, I can tell you my faves. Splat has AMAZING fun colors even if it kills your hair (if you have short hair that grows out at crazy rates then it doesn’t really matter? Also I use hair oil if my hair gets dry) and for more “tame” colors I think Garnier works really well(I used Fiery Burgundy Red 2 times. One time on orangish and the second time on itself after my roots grew out a lot(my roots are BLACK) and it made my hair really even?? and also beautifully shiny, like seriously cool) so I think it depends on what you want. Sure you can’t anticipate it perfectly but personally I just prefer getting myself some box color. I’d love it if you tried like several brands/types of box dye bc they definitely are not built the same. Also garnier smells like peaches and I adore it for that. Splat stinks not gonna lie, but Garnier Fiery Burgundy literally smells like Haribo peaches I swear- (I have also used a black blue box die but I can’t remember for the life of me what brand (i used it for 2 years and last time I used it was 2 years ago so-) but it also smelled like Haribo peaches)
So i watched a video before this. A girl was doing the exact same dye colors and brands and the same head. Except she put labels on the face. The plum color is a the pro and the shiny vibrant redish color is box. Plus i live for the box colors. That plum color isnt matched with the box. Plus 2 different parts of the color spectrum.
I just came here from her video too lol

I love this box dye as well 🙂 I use it every time I dye my hair
Same! If I fry tfo my hair tonight (fighting the urge to fix my mistake too soon. I am impatient) it'll still have cost me less than $20. Last time I lightened my hair was in a salon years ago and they fried tfo it for like $200ish. My only mistake yesterday was not buying 2 boxes cuz I thought it would spread like the box dyes in this video that I am accustomed to. Had it spread like I expected, or had I bought 2 boxes, it would have turned out quite nicely. So I bought two more boxes today and am rambling in YT comments in an effort to avoid frying my hair by doing it way too soon. (No sense in anyone responding "Don't do it!" By the time anyone sees this, I probably already did. But it still only cost less than $20 and I knew the risks involved.)
@@gypsywoman9140 did you?
Damn I’m glad I never paid that much to dye my hair 💀
The 2nd mannequin was the box dye. U can tell by the color left on the scalp
And the back of the neck, if you look closely it's just slightly tinted pink from where it touched while the "professional" dye didn't touch at all. Plus they're different colors in general
I have a long history with box dye and salon dye. Anytime I want an all over color, I use Feria (if not for the conditioner alone!) Anytime I want more than a single color I get mine professionally colored and my stylist is always updated with what I have used. She studied under Guy Tang and has no issue with box dye as long as you have some ability and keep your stylist informed. Also and this is the most important- I dont know anyone that used just the bottle to squeeze on the hair. Everyone I know uses a bowl and brush just like he did with the pro dye. It's so difficult and messy otherwise for either. Feria has always given me such shine and body and the conditioner is almost worth buying the dye just to get it lol.
