todays video is a diy on doing the fan clutch on your ford 150 with a 5.4 3v engine. The fan clutch and water pump should be changed together as a pair.
symptoms of a bad fan clutch are
overheating
decrease in power and fuel economy due to the fan being on all the time
loud fan

You were very helpful today as I researched how to change a water pump . I was not sure what way the fan turned to remove. Thank you very much.!
You need to edit the title to 2004-2006 F150. 2007-2008 have an electrical connection and is controlled by the PCM/ECM
And I cannot get the clutch nut off on my 07. I’ve used 12 and 15 inch crescent wrenches and none of them open up big enough, I’ve rented all the tools from the stores around me and NONE FIT!!!! All too small. What am I supposed to do now. I can’t get a plumbers wrench in it nor anything else I’ve tried. I think I need like a 24” crescent does this sound right? I’m hundreds into just a resent wrenches right now if someone could just tell me the god damn size I’d go buy the actual size wrench but no one seems to know. Nor do any automotive places know. So I’m at a loss
@@curtoloid3826 crude but works...Air hammer...
I have an 08,and Truck isn't overheating, and isn't getting Hot.But, there's aloud noise, not serpentine belt. And it gets louder as you drive. Sometimes, quits. I smelled something like a slight plastic burning smell. The Truck started this noise a few weeks ago when I turned the AC,on. Then it quit for a couple weeks. Last night it was cool outside, and I started Truck up,and the noise wouldn't quit. I put water on belt, kept making noise.
take the belt off and check your belt idler, and tensioner pulleys that they spend freely / bearings are good. also check the AC pulley for the same
Bearings on Smooth idler, tension poly, groove idler. But what do i know...
Sounds like the same thing I'm going through right now with my 04 4.6. Could be timing chain guides. Drop your oil pan and look for plastic pieces. Just noticed your post was a year old....
How did you get the fan shroud back on, after you put the the fan clutch back on first? I was searching for a video to show how to get the fan shroud out without removing the fan clutch. Can I remove the fan without removing the fan clutch?
He fuqqed up lol
if you have to lift fan assy out with shroud, shouldnt shroud have went back on with it?
It doesn’t have to, shroud comes in two at the bottom. Couple bolts
Forgot to say, awesome video by the way
Yes sir great video but how did you take the Shroud off with the fan on???

Helpful. Thank you. No questions.
I have a 98 F150 and I swear the tensioner is tighter than its supposed to be. I got the gear wrench tool to hold the pump but I havent even diagnosed this yet. My fan wont spin freely it will turn with some pressure applied but it just stops when I take me hand off. The symptoms I had were loud screaming and grinding like a growl.. the screaming started from a chirp 6 months prior and then a growling grinding sound came. I used blue devil 5 years before and it stopped the water loss but just before parking it I saw a loss in the reservoir. Might have an intake leak as well as water pump or who knows. All I know is the screaming and growling was right in front of the motor. Buddy thought my idler was making the sound but I clearly see like a bobbing in and out of my water pump pulley. I got so many guys telling different things and its lame. I just need someone to walk me through diagnosing this stuff.
What size wrench?
thank you
Stupid question to ask. Did you check the fan for cracks since its plastic. I know I'm probably being a dumbass, but on my last minivan which was an aerostar, I had to replace a fan clutch and found the fan was cracked. That's why I asked
Nope not a stupid question actually a very good one. I did inspect the fan for any cracks, potential stress cracks in the making plus chips from the fan blade
your not being a dumbass you made a good point, all plastic fans are subject to crack over time
My fan Is has some kind of electric connection to the fan . You don't seem to have. Its a 08 5.4 .
hey i know my question isnt related to the video ,,,, but i got a 2005 f150 4,6L ,,,, and my steering pressure hose jus went today,,, whats the easiest way to change that hose, the pulley is in the way big time, jus wonderin if u have any tips for that
im thinking of removing the fan shroud and fan to make more room and the oil filter
@BSKGarage: Can the F150 fan clutch be repaired and re-used, like in some imported vehicles?
Don’t waste your time just replace
@@TestDontguess Thanks.
you cheated at the end by not putting the fan shroud back on, that can be the hardest part
what happens if you drive this truck without that plastic intake will it affect the performance?
Definitely wouldn’t recommend driving without it!
you didnt show the whacking
How would I Know if the fan clutch is bad? And love the 150 videos brother!
Info is in the description
You can hear the bearings go bad. A high pitched whistling noise with a slight grind. I confirmed mine was bad by manually rotating the fan when the engine was off. As it spun you can hear the sound as well as turning your truck off and quickly getting to the fan location, you can hear it much better. Again, mine was just bearings. Not sure of any other problem they may have.
That looked easy
Shame I cant find anything on a 2008 ford f150. The nut needs a 1 7/8 wrench and does not come off as easy as the videos make it seem. I was able to modify a crescent wrench to work but these videos are a bit decieving if you ever worked on a 2008 4.6.
Hey, I have a 2008 f150 4.6, i have a clutch fan in my truck too, i was going to ask you if your clutch fan is very loud, almost like a roaring noise, if so please let me know. Im desperately trying to fix this.
36mm iirc
I can’t get this fan off. I’m ready to throw this wrench
Definitely can leave the coolant
That coolant hose was a mess to unplug and get coolant all up in the spark plugs lol
Just was asking because all I saw was the swap and didn't hear about checking for cracks since it looks like a son of a bitch to r&r because of the shit in the way
