This tutorial is for GIMP 2.8 and is intended to teach beginners how to use the software. GIMP is a great free alternative to Photoshop.

I can't thank you enough for your tutorials, especially for GIMP. I've been searching for tutorials that could add to my creative abilities within GIMP. If you've ever had doubts, discard them. Thanks so much!
These tutorials are so helpful! I would love one that explains the layers/alphas thing in detail! Keep up the great work!
Great stuff, getting used to GIMP with every tutorial-
Hey nick, im a web design and developer who had been using Photoshop and Illustrator for the past few years and thought that it was actually the best image editing tools out there. I recently switched to Ubuntu to do some codings and stuff, and learned that photoshop isnt available for linux but GIMP was. At first i found it extremely different compared to Photoshop but learned the functions of each tool gradually. I have saved all your videos and have learned so much from them. Thank you Nick, you are the best!
Nick, I can't even tell ou how much I appreciate you and your great videos, you have been introduced me to something I have found a great interest in and your tutorials are perfect.
I wish you only success in the future for your personal self and your channel.
Thank you Jared!
Fast, straight to the point and clearly explained. Great tutorial. Thanks!
thx, i totally appreciate you telling us what you are doing as well as the little details that tell us the color code you use. thx dude and i look forward to your videos. hey everyone, if you like his videos, make sure you click the bell too, then you wont miss his video updates. : ) just getting the info out there.
Thanks Charles!
I was just looking for a tutorial for just this, thanks so much!
Great timing lol
Thank you and May God Bless you.
Your GIMP tutorials are awesome.
Thank You Nick For This Tutorial. Really Good Explanation. May The Peace, The Mercy And The Blessings Of God Be Upon You.
Ola nick, eu te sigo aqui no Brasil, e sou muito grato pelos teus videos.
Eu fiz esta tecnica de design no inkspace, e ficou muito bom.
you are great. Love all the detail and the step by step instructions!! Learning so much from you!
Quick and good
Would love to do this but this doesn't seem to work anymore? The Blend tool is gone and when I use gradient on the added layer it covers the layer in the layer box, but not onscreen?
Another BadAss Video!... Very Miami Vice/Bay Watch.. Love it...
Love it.
Is there a tutorial on how to create an outline text effect in gimp? Like a text with outline only, no color fill?
Nick, you are the best!! Thanks a ton!
unbelievable how you made this thanks yaar love you
Thank you
Amazing video, thank you very much
Thanks Nick! You gave me so much inspiracion again!
How to integrate the quick toolbox in a single window frame of GIMP? Everytime I open it, I see three different window frames. The extreme left pallet (quick toolbox of color bucket, color FG-BG, etc.), main drawing board/workspace area in the center, and layers, installed brushes at extreme right. Every window has separate 'close' button unlike you.
Window -> Single Window Mode
+David Ullmer It worked. Thanks, mate.
`Tab` I think toggles Single Window Mode as wel.
Thank you for your assistance. It is great
awesome man keep them coming bro
deleting the gradient layer doesn't work for me
+Say Sare click the 'Del' button on your keyboard.
Same thing happened to me. After you select the gradient layer, go to Edit on the top menu and select clear. It should work then.
@@starkixn Thanks.
The best.... Nick I am your Fan.
Great tutorial, thanks a lot!
Could you tell us, why you work on Windows instead of Ubuntu?
I wanted to start getting more comfortable with Adobe software, which only runs on Windows and Mac. Windows 10 is the first version of Windows I actually like.
Well to me win10 a copy of KDE :P anyway it's your choice Nick, like your works, keep going on, cheers.
Yes, same here, microsoft improve a lot with this version of windows.
Would this style of text work on a picture that is very dark and has a nigh time setting with lights? If so, what color should the foreground and background be instead of the colors portrayed here?
I do this tutorial, thanks!
can this be done by individual layering...great vids!
Like always great tutorial :) Thank you!
Nick, do you know of a good video on how to properly set up Inkscape? I'm using it for the first time and things aren't set up the same on my screen. Thanks in advance.
Can you do cmyk designs with this software....thanks a lot for the videos
hi! please help me 😉 can you hint how to draw in Inkscape the background for Dock (Docky) such as in macOS. I mean blurred and transparent background. I tryed, but all my tryings were not seccesful 😖 thank you, anyway 👍
Fantastic, thank you.
Thank you so much
thanks so much nick for your effort .am new here and i want to learn inkscape. pls can you help me with the basic tutorials for beginners .thanks
Thank you for doing this Video!
Now is there a way to cut out the SUN text with the image inside to place on another photo?
I would assume you would need to free lasso the text and save it on a transparent background, which you could then paste onto a different background.
Thank you very much.
I HAVE A QUESTION SIR:
WHAT DID YOU DO TO BECOME A MASTER EDITOR IN GIMP ?
How would you end up with just the word without the rest of the background around it?
this is amazing
how do you get your gimp set up like that, my gimp has multiple windows and do not have the layers atop the work, nvm i found out
would this apply if i wanted to put an image inside another cut out image ?
can you please make a video how to put your logo in a signboard picture?
Nick do you have a tutorial on how to make a profile picture similar to yours
I love It
Thank you nick :)

Great details video totally appreciate you what you are doing.. i just made a new banner today for my channel need some feedback to improve. BTW Nick you are awesome
in my humble opinion; i think you shadowed everything and thus made it to busy as well as the blue car in front having its shadow cast the green sharp square lines on your tire. over all a nice banner. remember the middle is for those who use their phones to see your banner is what youtube says anyway. you asked and i hope you take this as friendly feedback on your banner. i do like the background and the color scheme you chose for it. : ) feel free to be brutal with mine.
Thanks for your time bro i really appreciate your time i will look forward to it.
What is the picture on the text you used for your youtube intro SRC gaming
I like it. I would maybe add more characters, or maybe bring them in closer so there isn't so much empty space between them. And Charles makes a good point about the motion blur thing. It's a nice touch, I'd just tone it down a bit. Maybe only use it on the characters that are actually in motion. It doesn't make sense on the dude all the way to the right who is standing still. Overall nice work though!
which one? the intro src gaming from start? that's my icon.
