Really appreciate the share! My PC died on me recently. I'm an avid PS user. My feelings have been hurt bad😢. Good thing I had a laptop I bought for my lady a while back she never use by the way. I've installed GIMP 2.10.8 & so desperately needed these smoke brushes. I'm back on track now! BIG THANK YOU!!
You're the best! I was just trying to install a PS brush set to Gimp yesterday and I was doing it wrong. I copied the JPG files into the brushes folder... and they appeared when I refreshed but were all gray no matter what color I clicked on and I made sure to be in rgb color more instead of greyscale. You're a lifesaver! It works!

So I view alot of gamers on twitch, as well started streaming myself. One of the essential needs of a twitch focused graphic designer is to do pannel art as well as overlays with webcams and such. I started using Gimp for that, but to start branching out, this smoke tutorial is going to be the first artsy thing that I try to do. Im nervous but you have done a good job of being easy to listen to, confident in your approach, and detailed in you explanation. It really helps me relax and focus on the task better.

For Mac it depends, sometimes it is difficult to find the Library folder. One can also download the brushes and open them into a new folder (e.g. Gimp Brushes), then open up Gimp, and from Preferences/Folders go to the new folder and import the brushes.
Hey I am using ubuntu and when i try to copy that file to brushes folder ,it says "you are not the owner,you have no permission to do so" . What should i do ? plz help..
im having trouble with devient art. i can download the zip folder but when i try to unzip and actually open the files it wont let me. im using a macbook by the way

hmmm. when i put it in the brushes folder and reload it, everything works, but when i use it its a big blob. (just as i was typing i found the problem. I was using pencil instead of paint)
this might be a silly question, but with a smoke brush like this is there a way to squash/stretch edges of it? Like, if I like the furled top of it but want to elongate the bottom so that it looks like it's billowing up from something, is that even possible? x
Love your videos, but I could not get these to work in v2.10.6. I tried both the shared folder and Ron D's suggestion. I keep getting the message "unable to decode abr format version 10". It seems to be anything from Brusheazy.
Similar, I can get them in GIMP and to load and work.... but, when I try clicking to add the smoke effect it doesn't appear; GIMP registers it as if I dis use it, but it doesn't show up.
ya this doesn't work for me, when you opened it it had an icon of a little blue brush, mines like a piece of white paper.. and i went step by step with you... not sure what the issue is
Hi Nick. The way didnt work ! Even not in Username Gimp 2.10 . in Gimp 2.10. the pack or every .abr causes "can not open". i find a way...and that way is terrible. I used a abr viewer, changed to png and then u have open every single brush in Gimp 2.10. Than export with ending gbr. Is working than :( I didnt try the whole pack in PNG...will try now :)
I'm having the hardest times installing these brushes man can somebody please help me I'm ready to go insane I have been trying this for hours. I don't know what happened but all of my icons anything I download has an inkscape logo In front of it instead of a folder icon and it's screwing everything up does anybody know how to change this

I see now that this tutorial is almost 4 years old, and maybe you haven't noticed but this brush site no longer has a download button and are in the business of selling the brushes so they are no longer a free download or either I'm just not finding it because the site now looks way different from the site on the video
Even in GNU/Linux you can copy files from a zip archive by opening the archive without extracting it, just have to have an archive manager like Ark, Engrampa, Xarchiver etc ;)
Paul Thompson I suppose there is also top menu, try to find there in View or Windows menu, there should be some actions to re-add those missing toolbars

It's a bright green arrow circle under the brushes on the right side. My screen was a little different. The brushes were located at the upper right.

You don't need Photoshop and your computer doesn't need to recognize it. You just have to drop the file into the folder and GIMP will recognize it.
