This is true. My sister is on the spectrum and a few years ago was working as a server. The cops set up a sting operation on her and she accidentally sold alcohol to a minor. She was confused because the person’s drivers license was from a different state. After she set the drink on the table, they issued her a ticket and she was later fired from her job. Her confidence was crushed. This is one reason why she is afraid to get a job.

I have epilepsy and I have been taken into custody a few times because, after a seizure, I may wander and act very strange. I've never done anything illegal in that postictal stage. In fact, I tend to be very calm and gentle. However, there have been times where people have called the police because of my "very strange" behavior. The cops have accused me multiple times of being on drugs and have taken me to get blood tested. When I come back clean, they let me go without so much as a sorry or even an offer to help me home. In fact, they usually think I'm homeless (as if that makes it better to treat me so aggressively when they tackle me for wandering away in a daze as they talk to me). If they were going to make assumptions, it should have been that you were having mental health issues, not that you were a "criminal".

This is true. My sister is on the spectrum and a few years ago was working as a server. The cops set up a sting operation on her and she accidentally sold alcohol to a minor. She was confused because the person’s drivers license was from a different state. After she set the drink on the table, they issued her a ticket and she was later fired from her job. Her confidence was crushed. This is one reason why she is afraid to get a job.

I have epilepsy and I have been taken into custody a few times because, after a seizure, I may wander and act very strange. I've never done anything illegal in that postictal stage. In fact, I tend to be very calm and gentle. However, there have been times where people have called the police because of my "very strange" behavior. The cops have accused me multiple times of being on drugs and have taken me to get blood tested. When I come back clean, they let me go without so much as a sorry or even an offer to help me home. In fact, they usually think I'm homeless (as if that makes it better to treat me so aggressively when they tackle me for wandering away in a daze as they talk to me). Thank you for showing how quick cops are to "criminalize" what they don't understand. If they were going to make assumptions, it should have been that you were having mental health issues, not that you were a "criminal".
