  • In this episode, The Gottlieb Guy give a quick tutorial of Tilt and Anti-Cheat (or Bounce) switches, using a 1977 Gottlieb "Jacks Open" EM Pinball Machine as an example. Footage of a 1971 Gottlieb "2001" in action is also shown.

    Thanks for the quick response. Great idea about the transformer. The only thing is that all the voltages test out perfect. Also, going through the self tests also works like it should, no errors. The pinball guy is here now. He is stumped as well. He has not run into this ever and he has worked on pinball machines for decades. The only thing that he thinks it could be is something to do with the Tilt features. We checked all the tilt devices and relays. Nothing there. Hopefully while he is here now, he will figure this thing out. Thanks again for the reply.

    Thank you for posting this video. I have a "King Kool" pinball machine. After moving, the tilt light is on. I did not know about slam switches. I will check all of these to see if it will resets. Will let you know. Thanks again

    I'd like to see someone do a video showing the connectivity of a mid-70's Gottlieb 4player coin apparatus, the coin unit (under the chimes) and the player control unit in back. Specifically, how the quarter activates the coin unit, and what it looks like on the schematic.

    • @fishon7301
      @fishon7301 Před rokem

      Update, it would be more helpful if you showed these switch locations in the schematic. Of course, logic would tell you that it's probably close and in line with the Start switch, if you can find that.

    I turned on my Soccer (2 player) yesterday for the first time in a few years. Aside from needing a tune up it worked fine. Today I turned it on and played a game. When the game ended it did not reset. I turned it off and then on again it is now in TILT mode and I cannot get it to reset. Any suggestions for me to get it working again before I call a pinball technician.

    So, the pinball guy just replaced the main board with a new one as well as disabling all the tilt functions and it all works now. The interesting thing about this is that he replaced the board last time and it didn't work. Even he is perplexed on why it works now when he did the same thing the last time he was here. So, we will have to see how long this lasts. Hopefully for years with a new main board.

    I just purchased a 1976 Gottlieb Buccaneer that seems to be in very good condition except I can't seem to get it to reset out of Tilt. All the Tilt switches seem to be fine. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jeff.

      Hi, thank for the question. SonI believe that game starts up in Tilt when powered up and then, of
      course, would come out of tilt when you press start.
      Sounds like it’s not doing that. Is the game set for free-play? Or is it still coin activated? Also, are you able to manually add a credit by advancing the credit wheel in the head and then starting the game?

    I am having an issue I can't seem to solve with my Haunted House. Maybe you have run into this issue on another Gottlieb machine. When you press the play button the all the score displays go out. They will not come back on until you turn off/on the machine again. I have tried to see if any of the tilt devices are in the wrong position. They are not. I checked the T relay and it seems OK. However, I am not a Pinball Guy, just able to tell if things are open or closed. Also checked continuity on all the fuses and they are good. Any thoughts?

      We got a Brunswick Aspen machine a while back and when we first got it the scoreboard would keep tripping. It was a breaker issue and it would constantly trip over the lowest little voltage. Its hard to explain the whole thing, but my dad put a transformer from a car or something and it hasn’t tripped since. Now they are obviously two completely different games from different manufacturers, pricepoints, quality’s, etc. but it COULD be a possibility. I’d definitely ask around a little bit more of course.

    Hi there, I have a single player ‘75 El Dorado. Should the tilt Bob end the game or ball? My ‘76 Surfer just ends the ball. The El Dorado seems to be ending the game. I don’t know if this is an issue or correct for this machine. Thanks for any help! Great video!

    • @thegottliebguy4543

      thank you! I’m fairly sure there is a switch that is probably in the head of the game that can be adjusted so that tilts either ends the game or ends just the ball. It’s probably a Jones plug if you know what that is?

    • @TorontoAreaNestBox
      @TorontoAreaNestBox Před 5 měsíci

      @@thegottliebguy4543 Thanks, yes I do know what a Jones Plug is - there's 5 of them in the head but none look to offer options like the 3/5 ball jones plug in the bottom of the cabinet. The lift tilt switch and ball have been completely removed from the head, so I don't know what is closing the switch. I took one of the leads from the rail lift switch and screwed it into the rail near where the tilt bob is hanging and if I touch the bob to the ring now, it causes a tilt. Without this fix it was not tilting at all. I noticed when the tilt occurs, the hold relay also disconnects, ending the game
