My daughter Hailey is friends with your daughter and she told me about your channel. I love pinball but there aren’t very many here in Waco.
Hi Troy! Nice to meet you. Yeah I’ve actually sold a couple to people in Waco but I am not aware of many pinball machines - much less the EM pinball era games I restore - “in the wild” in Waco. But maybe there are. It’s a fun hobby, although I haven’t done anything since the Pandemic ended really. But I’ll get back into it eventually.
Love this game, but I prefer lucky hand for the same reason however they are both a blast
Wow, it plays nice. You have talent, good job.
The genius of Gottlieb really shines with Jacks Open.
Great game, but your cameraman moving around all the time is making me seasick. It’s best to get someone that plays pinball to do the camera work if possible so they know that it would be best just to fix the camera in one spot that shows the whole board and leave it there as we don’t really need close-ups of the score changingor close-ups of the top rollover, causing him to zoom all the way down to watch, too late the ball drain
I recall playing this in my local Fish n Chip shop way back. Easy to get free games which would entail the shop owner proceeding to turn the machine off 🤣
KING PIN. A 10/10 for playability and fun ! Looking for a replica back glass for my `72 Bally Space Time. Any idea?
Dude, what the f are you talking about, where the stupid Williams in gottlieb's PS2 game where you just nudge to the left and f****** cancels your game we're not talking about the hardcore them both tell us how to defeat this till teacher
About to buy one of these this weekend, does the back box fold down for transport?
no, on these oldGottliebs, they unbolt from the head, and you have to unplug one or more Jones plugs and then the head comes off. Be sure that head is protected when you transport it because the back glass is probably the most important, and sometimes irreplaceable, part of the game.
Okay, thank you! Excited as this will be my first pinball machine. Appreciate your help! 👍🏻
I play all the Gotlieb 70's EM'S at a place they opened last June in Girard, Ohio called Past Times Arcade. That Atlantis, along with Abra Ca Dabra and El Dorado are the pinacle deep target Gotliebs...😊👍💯
Hi there, I have a single player ‘75 El Dorado. Should the tilt Bob end the game or ball? My ‘76 Surfer just ends the ball. The El Dorado seems to be ending the game. I don’t know if this is an issue or correct for this machine. Thanks for any help! Great video!
thank you! I’m fairly sure there is a switch that is probably in the head of the game that can be adjusted so that tilts either ends the game or ends just the ball. It’s probably a Jones plug if you know what that is?
@@thegottliebguy4543 Thanks, yes I do know what a Jones Plug is - there's 5 of them in the head but none look to offer options like the 3/5 ball jones plug in the bottom of the cabinet. The lift tilt switch and ball have been completely removed from the head, so I don't know what is closing the switch. I took one of the leads from the rail lift switch and screwed it into the rail near where the tilt bob is hanging and if I touch the bob to the ring now, it causes a tilt. Without this fix it was not tilting at all. I noticed when the tilt occurs, the hold relay also disconnects, ending the game
I just bought the same machine. I'm about to restore it. Any guidance or tips will be greatly appreciated.
Congrats! Obviously there are many aspect of restoration. One of my biggest tips is to go in the EM Pinball forum at Pinside.com where you’ll find a community ready to help you answer questions, trouble-shoot, and share tips. Have a plan, be methodical, and take your time. Oh, and remember: enjoy your game! PS: The Pinball Resource is your go-to place for Gottlieb parts.
I just purchased a 1976 Gottlieb Buccaneer that seems to be in very good condition except I can't seem to get it to reset out of Tilt. All the Tilt switches seem to be fine. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jeff.
Hi, thank for the question. SonI believe that game starts up in Tilt when powered up and then, of course, would come out of tilt when you press start. Sounds like it’s not doing that. Is the game set for free-play? Or is it still coin activated? Also, are you able to manually add a credit by advancing the credit wheel in the head and then starting the game? If you want, email me at pinballguy232 - it’s a gmail address.
Standing in front of one right now. Looks like there was only 2850 produced. Must be rare. Had to CZcams it
Is there a place to order a playfield overlay for the gottlieb king pin game and backglass
Yes - several out there - start with pinballlife.com Can also post on Pinside.com and the community will point you in the right directuon
I love this game! How much did you sell it for?
Very nice game, was this listed on pinside or just Craigslist? Curious what it went for back in the pandemic craze.
Thanks! I honestly cannot recall - maybe $1600 restored?
Had one of these in the late 90s. Should have kept it. Looks good
It would be so much easier to enjoy if the camera quit moving all over the place. When filming gameplay, it’s best just to hold the camera still. We don’t need to see close-ups of the score change or anything else.
Part of why I show other things like the score reels is that I am selling these games and the buyers who pay for these nicely restored games want to see / know that everything works. Thanks for watching!
I have one too
I want one, I would buy a Top Card pin ball machine, if I could find one
What is the price of it
Oh dear... what have you done? O_o
Love it. Games like this bring back fond memories of my childhood.
Very nice. I like the add a ball cousin ‘Lucky Hand’ better with the Wows and the 1110 point rollovers with the awesome triple chime.
Thanks! Yes, I have a Lucky Hand in my permanent collection, and I kept it, instead of the Jacks Open, for all the reasons you list. Both are fantastic games, but I like the functionality - and that great triple chime - on Lucky Hand the best.
I HAVE THIS GAME LOOKING TO SELL IN PERFECT SHAPE
Cool! It was such a fun game to restore. What are you selling yours for?
This is an awesome game play video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Vic! That means a ton coming from you. I don’t know if you remember, but we met once. I came to your house probably four years ago one evening, while I was on a business trip in Manhattan and played your collection. I am golden boy from Pinside.

So, the pinball guy just replaced the main board with a new one as well as disabling all the tilt functions and it all works now. The interesting thing about this is that he replaced the board last time and it didn't work. Even he is perplexed on why it works now when he did the same thing the last time he was here. So, we will have to see how long this lasts. Hopefully for years with a new main board.
Thanks for the quick response. Great idea about the transformer. The only thing is that all the voltages test out perfect. Also, going through the self tests also works like it should, no errors. The pinball guy is here now. He is stumped as well. He has not run into this ever and he has worked on pinball machines for decades. The only thing that he thinks it could be is something to do with the Tilt features. We checked all the tilt devices and relays. Nothing there. Hopefully while he is here now, he will figure this thing out. Thanks again for the reply.
I am having an issue I can't seem to solve with my Haunted House. Maybe you have run into this issue on another Gottlieb machine. When you press the play button the all the score displays go out. They will not come back on until you turn off/on the machine again. I have tried to see if any of the tilt devices are in the wrong position. They are not. I checked the T relay and it seems OK. However, I am not a Pinball Guy, just able to tell if things are open or closed. Also checked continuity on all the fuses and they are good. Any thoughts?
We got a Brunswick Aspen machine a while back and when we first got it the scoreboard would keep tripping. It was a breaker issue and it would constantly trip over the lowest little voltage. Its hard to explain the whole thing, but my dad put a transformer from a car or something and it hasn’t tripped since. Now they are obviously two completely different games from different manufacturers, pricepoints, quality’s, etc. but it COULD be a possibility. I’d definitely ask around a little bit more of course.
Annnd I just read the end of your comment. Whoops.
I'm looking for a Bank-A-Ball Playfield
This might be a dumb question but I have the hotshot game and I cant get the tilt light to come off. Do u know what the issue might be
My machine has the same problem.
I hope you adjusted the end-of-stroke flipper switches after this video. From what I saw, I don't think they were gapped far enough apart. You want the smaller blade to just barely move when the larger one moves. There are 2 windings in those 2 solenoids, and the buzzing tends to tell me that the end of stroke switches are not always opening.
This is the only one I've seen with the extra car at the number 4. Can't find any Info about a change or 2nd edition
Hi Jesse, this is actually a custom decal that another collector made and offered for sale on pinside.com to other collectors. Because this is a common wear-spot on that game (including mine) some collectors have started adding that decal to help cover that wear-spot. The art matches perfectly the original artwork so it blends in really well.
How much?
It’s long gone - but I believe this one sold for around $1800.
@@thegottliebguy4543 I have this machine works ok. Needs work . The score doesn’t always register on certain things. At the top of the playing board has a groove in it from wear .ALSO flippers are a little tired. Back glass of course is flaky from the hot bulbs. Would love to have it restored but don’t know who does it. I live Hyde Park,NY.
@@roseell2008 Hi Rose, can you tell me what type of pinball machine it is and what the title is? That will help me guide you perhaps to someone in that area. Is it an electro mechanical game? (You can tell because the score wheels are not digital - they are actual reels with numbers painted on them that turn when scores happen).
@@thegottliebguy4543 I have the exact same machine you have in the video.
@@roseell2008 it’s a great title!
We had this machine in our home, and I would love to find one again.
How much did this sell for? I have one and I’m looking to sell it. Thanks.
Hi Heath, I will have to go back and look but I think it was for around $1800. But it’s possible it was a little more or a little less.
Did you ever sell your Bank-A-Ball?
I'd like to see someone do a video showing the connectivity of a mid-70's Gottlieb 4player coin apparatus, the coin unit (under the chimes) and the player control unit in back. Specifically, how the quarter activates the coin unit, and what it looks like on the schematic.
Update, it would be more helpful if you showed these switch locations in the schematic. Of course, logic would tell you that it's probably close and in line with the Start switch, if you can find that.
PLEASE let me know if you ever come across another Jacks Open...Been wanting one of these for a long time
Will do. I also have the Add-a-Ball version of this game (quite rare) Lucky Hand. If I ever decide to sell it I can also notify you on that one.
I have this game in a 4 player called Bronco. 1977.
Hi Steve - thanks for watching. Bronco was the first EM I owned, but it’s not the 4-player of Quick Draw. It’s the four-player of Mustang. Quick Draw is the two-player version of the four-player Fast Draw. Different games.
I love this machine. I'm just a poser that plays the video game versions but something really drew me to this one over the others. It's so cool to see the real thing now. The simplicity and bells of EMs are so appealing.
Thanks and I agree - it’s one of the coolest rules sets Gottlieb ever made. I also have the “Add-a-Ball” version of this, called “Lucky Hand”.
Hi I'm in texas also and just picked up a early 70s gottlieb. Can I dm you for questions on my game?
Of course! I’ll try to be of assistance!

Thank you! I hope to add more videos soon too! Thanks for watching!

I played the add-a-ball version of this game Pin-Up back in the day
How much?
Hi Steve - thanks for watching. This one sold a couple of years ago. I do have an even nicer Quick Draw in my personal collection - it’s not for sale at this time. I will have to go back and look in my records but I believe the one in the video sold for around $1,600.
I have owned this game for 22 plus years and have the time and money to start it back up was a 9 of 10 when I had to quit playing 13 years ago. My question is where or who sells the clear field protection thank you
Hi Donald. I bought mine through Marco Specialties. You can search for the game and they should stock it.
This is one of the best em’s! I would like to know what your top 5 system 80 pins are and why? Thanks for the sharing this great review of a Gottlieb classic. Woo!
Hello and thanks for watching! I only collect, restore and sell EMs so I don’t really have a ton of knowledge about System 80 pins unfortunately.
what are you selling it for?
Hi Daniel, it sold about a year ago.
is it still for sale?
Hi Daniel, no this one sold about a year ago.
I spent hours and hours playing this game in 1976. Thanks.
