  • Well that was BRUTAL! A massive week of the marathon block which had an explosive end. In today's video I tackle a massive long run marathon session and break down how I smashed my mileage per week PB! And after a lot of trial and error have come to the conclusions I need to cut caffeine from my marathon fuelling strategy.

      having vomited on a run previously (i'm 100 times slower than phily - just ran too soon after eating once) i can confirm that you feel _so much better_ after you've been sick and carrying on running feels totally fine. It's a bit like being car sick and as soon as you've got it out you feel better - it's not like you're actually sick, there's just something sitting in your stomach that it's not happy about aha.

  • @dcnole
    @dcnole Před rokem +26

    Philly, 8 miles into fighting off serious urge to vom, still looked WAY happier than Daniel did first thing that morning! Way to power through it! (Oh, and good job by you too, Philly.)

    Since I am currently laid low by a chest infection, I really envy you - even the vomit episode! There was a time when throwing up at the end of a session was seen almost as a badge of honour, though these episodes usually happened at the end of an intensive track session. Very good session, you are clearly getting in superb shape.
    Great episode, thanks for the content!

    Great effort Philly. Sadly I've tried caffeine gels on long runs on a couple of occasions with similar results, the last occasion especially embarassing as my stomach let go outside the driveway of a large house on a posh housing estate. Frustrating as I generally have a strong constitution but it lets me down when long runs are combined with gels so have given up on doing a marathon.

I only had to run 45 sec 200s and 90 sec 400s but to me I felt like I was going sooo fast. your videos won't make me a track convert :) but I do appreciate how I can run on a track compared to trails, even if it does mean running in a circle :)

    I had a friend who in an 80 mile ultra struggled with gut issues from mile 55-70, threw up and then got a second wind to the end, so much so they were just a minute off the victory. What led you to isolate the caffeine gel as the cause of the issue rather than the volume of the drink you were consuming?
