    8:29 - Yes, it is. I once laughed in the face of a roommate several years after I retired after he told me that he could easily keep up with the Olympic field in the 1500M, "because they're just jogging," or some similar rot. The 1500M, at this level, would KILL most people by shock.

    Just a comment on the editing of this interesting video. Perhaps you are using software to get under 30 minutes or something but the hundreds of tiny skips in the video makes it quite difficult to watch.

    It's crazy how emotions and logic don't always work together. It sucks to feel disappointed, but it's okay to feel that way. I think it's healthy how you self talk through it. I had a similar experience running a mile, wanted so bad to break 5 minutes I'd lined up some pacing, I felt had the fitness, and I felt urgent as it was late fall and snow was about to fall. But it just wasn't so. Even though I did get a 2 second PB I still felt let down and disappointed. I guess it's part of the game and part of what makes grind meaningful. The victories can only feel so good because the failures feel bad. From the outside it's really impressive. I never felt like the first mile race of the season was anything near my potential, just because of the pain and dealing with it. It's so easy to feel panicked and give in to the body yelling, "stop you fool!". To run a small PB or anywhere near your PB on a first effort just speaks volume on the training you've done. To be at that speed without specific training shows how much stronger your aerobic engine has gotten. It compensated well for lack of preparation and training of your anaerobic engine. Really impressive.

    Quite honestly, Philly, I'm not sure what you could reasonably have expected. What specific 1500 preparation have you done over the last couple of years? Answer, NIL!! How would a highly trained 1500 runner cope with the last ten miles of a marathon? Not very well, I'd suggest! Whe I was racing 1500s seriously i occasionally "raced" a 400. Did Ibenjoy it? No because I was always well beaten - but it served its purpose, it helped the 1500. you have to look at this 1500 in that light.

    Best part of this, is you verbalize the entire thing, from the immediate reactionary emotions to the finish, the contemplation, the reasoning, the plan, the encouragement. Disappointment happens, but this feels like healthy approach to it, bravo. 🙌

    Can you do a video for what you would do if you don't love the grind? I'm not a runner. I am legally blind and my Dr just diagnosed me with a rare painful heart condition. A few months ago after I was diagnosed I wanted something to help me stay focused and not sad all the time. All the motivational videos were not helping. I needed something out of the box. That is when I found your videos. In a crazy way, your videos helped me get up out of bed, get dressed, and do one task each day. Lol love the grind 😅 Right now, I am rebuilding my body and my mind and it's a struggle. But what do you do if you don't love grind? Anyway I love your videos. Thank you for being so honest. You are helping people like me. Thank you❤

    don't do it. your legs are conditioned for slow switch muscles, doing 1500 requires gast switch muscles. it won't work you will pull muscles because you body is used to the speed. Not worth the rehab if that happens. it happened to me. I rehabed for 1 month. need to train for the faster ran first before you just jump into it.

    max anaerobic type efforts seem to have the ability to make a person feel bad about themselves, especially when you arent used to them. I know just how you feel

    Love the grind! The good and the bad, did a 35k trail race with 2000 meters elevation, second half was horrible, but finished the damn thing in 5h25. Loved the grind!🥴😂😎

    I ran in that 5000m, was not loving the grind went horribly for me, but the fact I made it into you video made it all worth it, love your stuff Phily! And considering all a great performance in the 1500, just a reflection of that moment in time doesn't mean it correlates to what you are capable of :)

    Specificity is an underestimated portion of the pie. If you haven't trained for middle distance or top end, then PBs will be hard or impossible. Don't beat yourself up, onto the next

    You are too tough on yourself, Phily. Just look at it as a speed session that hurt more than others because you seldom do that type of training. I know few if any of the middle distance runners could defeat you in the marathon. You are a great runner and person, the latter being the best category of all!

    you can't expect getting better in pole vault while training long jump. Both is about jumping but the training is completely different. You've done VERY good Phily!!

    I dropped 16 minutes from my 10K PB by not running with my old slow buddy and getting my nephew,to pace me to a sub 60 10K … which at 66yo I was very happy with. I love everything about running except the actual running. The Austin 10k has 3 grueling hills, I might try and find a flat 10k .. maybe New Orleans … could,probably drop another 8 minutes. .. is that cheering ? Seems choosing the right 10k route is critical.
