Hi Friends Happy MONDAY!
Yay Mondays. Hope your week/weekend was fantastic. Todays story is low key really heavy and sad and ugh, just awful. I kept getting recommended this over and over again so finally I caved and decided to share the story about Sylvia Likens. I definitely think in the future I just need to stay away from stories like these, they mess with me way too much. Dont get me wrong all the stories are awful , but this one was just super awful.
Anywho, Love and appreciate you guys so much! Me and my cold sore need a vacation now. Hope to see you very soon

Honestly, I appreciated all the shade you were throwing. I remember reading this case a couple months back and I felt the same way. There are SO MANY PEOPLE who failed poor Sylvia and for EVERYONE to have been let off so easy....truly a failure of the justice system
Ainslee Raasch this case is so disgusting
Only one I don't blame is Jenny.
I remember reading this a few months ago and getting angrier and angrier and I hadn’t even got to the sentences part... fcking ridiculous. I don’t know what happened to that family but since the justice didn’t punish them I hope they live with the guilt and shame forever
This. The whole community should be ashamed. What would that beautiful girl have accomplished in life?
The father should’ve left them with the oldest daughter. This was a hard one to watch. 😔

I wonder why the oldest wasn’t able to take them in?
the fact that her own SISTER didn't believe that both of her sisters were abused got me mad , she could have saved Sylvia from those monsters . smh
She tried to and even went to the house but Gertrude refused to allow Dianna entry to the property, stating that she had "received permission" from their parents not to allow either of the girls to see her. She then ordered Dianna to leave the property.
@@nancytwinkle7677 she should've believed her the first time when she told her. It was too late by the time she came back.
@@nancytwinkle7677 but she could have call her parents and tell them and they would come to save the girls or at least call the cops
You'd be shocked how often people dismiss abuse simply because it's inconvenient for them to accept or change their plans
A friend was going through domestic abuse situation and everyone thought she is exaggerating till she forwarded voice memos she secretly recorded. She is now going through family court and hears similar stories in her visits
Gertrude's eldest daughter Paula had the most evil smile on her face in her mugshot. No remorse at all. She is as evil as her mother. I hope Sylvia is at peace now and with her loving family.
The fact that she was even allowed to become a teacher after getting out of prison!!!
@@nancytwinkle7677I hope someone posted this story on her school bulletin board
@@a_jae_doe Someone else commented that someone reported her in 2012 & was labelled a pariah ever since
And in the movie they tried to basically make her out like she tried helping her! And a few times I felt like they tried making you feel bad or some type of way for Gertie..
Facts. Only her oldest sister is alive in their immediate family.
When Bailey said that she never wanted someone dead as much as this family I felt that. Honestly I want everyone dead who EVER hurt a finger of Sylvia’s because she was such a pure sweet girl 🥺🥺
Emma Kramer most of them died, and they died young. About 3 years ago Paula the oldest daughter was working in a school and was outed and fired for her part.
It makes me so mad when a kid says they’re getting abused and no one believes them. You should always believe the kid until you know for sure when it comes to abuse
Absolutely! Whats the harm in believing them enough to at least investigate the situation?! No, i wouldn't want an innocent person charged with abuse, but EVERY claim of abuse should at the very least be taken seriously and looked into.
It happens to me :)

One of Sylvia's last sentences was "I wish my daddy was here". That is so heartbreaking, this is the most horrifying case I've read about
that was her wish before she died, jenny told her what she wanted before she died :(((
The takoda collins case is on the same level if not worse than this case 😥 I hate how common this probably is around the world and how so many children never get justice
My grandma went to the trial. I was told that she spit on Gertrude.

I just can’t understand why so many kids in the neighbourhood were willing and wanting to torture a human. They’re so sick
Teens bind together in a gang type mentality, "Well everyone else says how fun it is, everyone else is doing it. I'd be the next one if I didn't do it." It's the same today with bullying and why no one speaks up or against when they see something wrong. It's sad.
You might find reading up on Stanford Prison Experiment and Milgram's Experiment very interesting, it's very enlightening in this context.
Gang mentality
Right?!?! This whole case is horrifying. This poor girl. I couldn’t even begin to imagine 😔
She still never got justice. I can believe she only got 3 years in prison. This is so sad
It’s honestly disgusting that the “justice” system really doesn’t bring justice. EVERY. PERSON. INVOLVED should have stayed in prison for the rest of their lives. No parole. No ability to change their names. I’m so angry!!!
But are you forgetting that gertude forced the kids on the block to do things to Sylvia (but your right about the children) but you may be forgetting the girl who was forced to do things but when she got the chance to tell the cops, she did without hesitation
Mae Hall No that was Jenny, Sylvia’s sister. She never hurt her own sister and also had gone through some abuse, just not as bad.
@@minisn3066 ohh because based off of what I read it said different but it's ironic because I'm watching the movie about her right now
Mae Hall she never forced them to do anything to her they willingly payed that 5 cent to beat her
Welcome to America.
side note, I think it's important to mention that whenever Jenny was abused, Sylvia would tell them to leave her alone and to focus the abuse on her. This girl had the purest soul and the first time I heard about this I cried a lot. One day, I would like to go to Sylvia's memorial and pay my respects. There are so many horrible stories out there but for some reason, this one affects me the most. I can only hope she is at peace now.

This made me sick. Honestly sometimes the justice system is just a joke. Everyone failed Sylvia here. Her life was miserable and this strong girl deserved so much better. At least she is now at peace.
Yes I watched the two movies based on slyvia story an they were so sad I will never forget the awful things that was done to her
Tyaisa c was one of them The Girl Next Door? I watched this movie 5 years ago and it still haunts me what happened to Sylvia.
A joke??? A JOKE?? This ain't even funny. Not even close to failure.
I’m from Lebanon Indiana, the town that Sylvia was from. We have a child advocacy center here named Sylvia’s place which harbor’s abused children. Her grave also constantly has flowers and stuffed animals
If anyone was curious, Jenny, Sylvias sister, was so haunted by the memories of what happened to her sister that she grew into a nervous recluse. In 2004 she died at the age of 54 of a heart attack. The supposed cause of her heart attack was when the pizza delivery man got to her house a little earlier than anticipated and knocked on her door, he startled her to death.
I imagine that she was terrified of Gertude's threats, even after her death. Abuse never leaves you. You're always scared that it's going to come back, because how could something that took such control of your life for so long just be.. gone? The slightest little fright is enough to make me collapse, even though I never came close to enduring anything on the same scale as this. I wish that Sylvia could have lived and gone on to live a better life.
I just read another comment that said she lived a happy normal life.
“NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I EVER WANTED SOMEONE DEAD THAN THIS WHOLE FAMILY” same girl same

“NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I YELLED AT A GIRL LIKE THIS BEFORE”-tyra banks

That’s what I think of her. I really hope that In heaven your memory is completely wiped of how you died, and that you’re surrounded by non stop love. She deserves that, poor baby.
Oh I pray 🙏🏻 that too ! If there ever was a person who deserves to be hugged all day long it’s sweet Sylvia ❤ 😢

I can't wrap my head around how this many people got involved. They CHARGED MONEY for others to come in and participate. How does this happen? You just casually mention to your pals - we are beating up my sister in the basement, wanna join in - and everyone says sure!??? I feel sick to my stomach, wasn't ready to hear this story today.
My thoughts exactly. It sounds like that whole neighborhood were psychopaths! 😤😢
Right! Did nobody know right from wrong back then? Mind is blown.
purplellama her kids in the home mimicking the abuse to me make sense especially because they watched their mom get abused and stuff but the entire neighborhood kids and all those kids friends im sorry but there is somthing wrong with all of the neighbors and friends of those kids and thier boyfriends like was it somthing in the water i just dont understand how these kids said nothing to their parents or siblings and no one was like oh these people are bher up this is wring maybe i should tell someone like who watches a girl get sexually abused and beat up and say nothing
Never underestimate human cruelty and how the feeling of power can make people sadistic.
And think about it, all those kids grew up to be adults just walking around. They may have children, daughters themselves. They could have become teachers, cops, working for the government etc and no one would know..
These normally dont bother me as much but I honestly cried listening to this. That poor girl did nothing but exist.

Exactly!! Better be safe than sorry. I’d rather believe them and look into it, even if it’s not true, because just ignoring them and dismissing them right away let’s the abuser get away with. It takes only a few moments out of your day and could change a life.

I believe that Gertrude was taking her anger about her failed relationships and failure as a "woman" (being undesirable and divorced multiple times with multiple baby daddies) out on a young, beautiful, innocent Sylvia.
Yes, I believe this is very plausible. She was jealous of the life Sylvia had ahead of her.
Not surprised but what's even more disturbing that she got HER KIDS AND THEIR FRIENDS to abuse and torture a girl. Normally it's just an adult abusing a kid but no...
@@angelusvastator1297 Well, Sylvia was the whipping child. If Gertrude was torturing Sylvia then she would have never turned her rage on any of them. There is also the mob mentality aspect - if you're in the bigger group and not the outcast, you have that sense of being "right" and being entitled to power over the outcast. It's a part of our social make up and it's sickening ... but when a group is made to hate one specific person or group of people, they feel empowered and bond together as a group when they do this type of stuff to the outcast. I mean there is the true story of Cinderalla
@@ez394 She's dead though
I can't believe it, they had no problem throwing a shoplifter in prison but they couldn't even keep the murderers in ? Absurd that's so sad
A shoplifter who's absence meant several kids without their Mom, too. Freaking inhuman system.
Seriously!
I bet she stole food…
White upper class ugh
Ikr it so sick and disappointing
Our justice system was, is, and always has been broken. It makes me physically and emotionally ill.
This poor girl .
This story seriously made me so mad and so sad all at the same time.
Rest in Peace lovely girl 🙏I love you Bailey, u r such an empath and u can really connect with your story telling. Bless you
People really still have that "to each their own" and "dont get involved" mentality when it comes to child beatings. It is really really sick.
100%.
Like wouldn’t you think if someone is banging and screaming for help and it stops that maybe something really bad happened to that person.
In New Zealand because of the abuse of a toddler witnessed by neighbours who did nothing.a law was passed that if you witness or heard about abuse and did not report it then you’re just as culpable and also go to prison.
@@nikinoodle2871 we have that kind of thing here for teachers and child care workers, but when it comes to anyone else, its like a grey area. :/
Literally my mom was super abusive and her family knew and was like oh well she’s not ours
Me: The world isn’t so bad sometimes
//watches this//
I retract that statement.
Throw the whole of humanity in the bin. All of it. Set society on fire.
I just watched this and like, I held in tears throughout the whole video. I hope she’s resting in peace
Glad you shared her story and this one has me in tears for that poor girl
Sylvia's dad failed her. Come on!! You can't say this little 5 foot nothing 100lb woman kept you from your child! You could strong arm your way into the house. You could call the police... ridiculous. Poor Sylvia. Everyone that participated should be held accountable.
Ikr. He should have done more. Especially the older sister. Shame on all of them.
He quit paying the $20 a week he had agreed to pay some sucker to take care of his kids. She took it out on the kids. Most parents paying for childcare would be incredulous like $20 a week for two kids? And you didn't pay it? And THAT happened?
He did what a lot of dads do, unfortunately. Immediately going to, "Let's blame the mom so I can feel like I did nothing wrong & I'm a victim too!" It's never, "I should have done more. I should have fought back!"
Yea he obviously didn't care ENOUGH
STELLA... have you ever watch a mafia movie!? Why is it the Don, that little old men in a wheel chair isn't just killed my the next in line. Power is more then the size of a person. 🤦♂️
This case literally has me speechless. I normally don’t have a problem sitting through your M&Ms but this was hard to listen to. I just don’t know how so many people could fail this young lady. It’s infuriating.
I believe there is a movie based off this as well as a book and they both haunt me.
The movie is an American crime with ellen paige
I was traumatized after the movie but bought the book and read up on it because i just couldn't believe so many kids could do this. So sad.
@@katerinacoatney7262 Yeah Stephen King said not everyone can sit through the movie. He said it was really yikes.
I love watching these, but this is honestly the hardest one for me. Ugh. So disgusting. So horrifying.
This one was hard for me too.... like I really wanted to leave but I just wanted to know if Sylvia made it out 🥺😭
That's one of the craziest things about abusers like that, they blame the child for the results of the abuse.
Thank you Bailey for making use aware of the extremities of child abuse. It’s important for people to stand up and say something, and this video really motivates us to do that.
I feel so bad for Sylvia she didn’t deserve that those people are disgusting
Ik this story is so sad
Poor girl would have been safer with her father in the carnival.
Right?! When Bailey said he was afraid for her safety I almost cried. Poor Sylvia.
Imagine the guilt he felt. And he deserves it
lifeorsomething134 How does he deserve it? He didn’t even know what was happening
@@biggiejuul7756 didn’t seem like he ever checked up on his daughter
This crime is so sickening and heartbreaking made me cry rest in peace Sylvia 🕊️
I remember hearing about this story. There is also a TV movie about it called "American Crime". This story was always so insane to me. In ALL aspects. How Sylvia's dad just left his kids there for such a long period of time with someone he barely knew. The fact that all these kids in the neighborhood were so complicit in beating and torturing her. It all was just so strange. And why they all singled out Sylvia and not the other child. But I mainly blame the parents of these girls. How you gonna just leave your kids with some friend's parent that you do not know indefinitely??? So infuriating.
I was genuinely sad that sylvia died, I hoped she'd survive and tell the story for herself but at least she was finally free from the abuse
In cases like this, sometimes death is the only peace they can get
Imagine the PTSD you’d have, the scars you’d have to look at constantly
It’d be amazing for her to rise above it all, tell her story and how she “won” by living through all of that. But she’s fully at peace and didn’t have to continue living in agony (from ptsd) afterwards
In the movie they make it seemed like she got away and I was HURT when it showed she actually died!!! It's so sad.
I'm sure living with it would be worse
@@crystalxoxox7691 yeah that's true, I mean at least her story was told in the first place! I'm glad she's at rest though and that she no longer has to suffer at their hands
This case is genuinely the most heartbreaking thing I have ever heard of. I can't even imagine how badly this poor child must've suffered, and the fact that the system failed her time and time again is infuriating.
you should hear about Gabriel Fernandez case, it's incredibly heartbreaking. there are evil people in the world who deserve the worst.
You should see the case of Junka Faruta, both cases are so heartbreaking
I’m traumatized from just *hearing* about this. I can only imagine how traumatic it must have been to live it. I just can’t imagine having that little empathy toward another human being.
They really should NOT BE ALLOWED TO CHANGE THEIR NAME!!
This is the most accurate and insightful telling of this case I've seen so far. 👍
Also, I sincerely hope that the other children, every single one, lived the rest of their lives HAUNTED by everything they had done.
jupiter jones hopefully driven into insanity by hallucinations of her ghost or something
Several died of cancer
If they didn't....they are now
Jessica Sunshine now’s the ONLY time im gonna cheer for cancer
In theory I believe in light sentences for children and rehabilitation and all that, but in cases like this I want them to rot in jail for the rest of their lives. You can't justify torture by being young. They probably went on to hurt others.
Lung cancer out here doing the lord's work.
😂
😂😂😂😂😪
Not soon enough, unfortunately.
Lol
💀💀💀💀😂😂😂
this is the one case you've covered that i can't bring myself to finish i've seen all your videos multiple times but this one just makes so so sad
they made a movie about this case, it’s called An American Crime.. Literally the most gut wrenching and heartbreaking thing to have watched let alone experienced.. I only hope she’s in a much better place now
This is the most disturbing story I have ever heard and I watched about 30 of your videos this week alone... Absolutely horrifying
Literally this was painful to listen to. That poor child.
This story been around for a long time and it still will bring tears to your eyes put that makeup on and tell the story right don't like your voice right about now I'm liking me some true crimes but you getting thumbs down cause you voice is not right for this story like you sitting around at a slumber party telling this story
@@louisegross3886 right ?
I agree
This case is definitely tragic & so preventable. However, the Junko Furuta case is actually (unfortunately) a lot worse...
At first I was like oh how have I never heard of this one? Then you said Sylvia likens and I out loud said OH NOOOO! Cause this story is so terrible.
Same!!
Me too! This story breaks my heart
For some reason it was seeing that this took place in IN that shook my memory.
Yup. No matter how many times I hear it this story shakes me to my core.
Watch the movie
this literally brought tears to my eyes for Sylvia. She seemed like such a sweet girl, and I hope shes in a better place now.
this case broke my heart and its one of the first ones ive heard you almost cry over. its crazy to think of the immense amount of abuse she endured
Gertrude lowkey looks like every disney villain mixed together
*she acts like one too*
but like if were gonna be honest she is 100,000,000 times worse thatn disney villians or any villian at least
Looks like Lady Tremaine and Ursula
Cruella Deville
Fr I got really freaked out every time who picture popped up in the video
Reminds me of the movie Mommie Dearest.
Sylvia Likens and Gabriel Fernandez cases are ones I've struggled so much to listen to. I cannot fathom how these 2 angels lived through it. R.I.P beautiful angels. I hope you found peace in the after life.
Adrian Jones too. Haven't cried that hard in a long time. 😢 his story is particularly heartbreaking. Like, on a different level.
junko furuta too
Chloe N THAT DEEPLY HURT ME - I cried so hard because they really did that to her
