  • Spending a few days at "The House". A big winter snowstorm comes through dropping over a foot of snow. Wind and cold follows. This was Melissa's first big snowstorm. We got to try out the snowblower, cook a couple of great meals and enjoy watching the snow. Winter is here to stay.

For petes sake everyone. Joe is born and raised in Minnesota. He knows what a snowplow is and how it works. I would guess he has some future plans, ie. A bobcat or snowplow or some piece of equipment, but this is something simple that Melissa has available and feels comfortable running if Joe is stuck in Minneapolis or the tent.

Iv just this week found your wonderful program. I think the reason I enjoy it, is that whatever your day brings, you DRAG US ALONG with you. My dad could pretty much do everything, and watching you reminds me , now 80, of crouching down to hear what tool daddy wanted me to hand to him.if mother couldnt see us she knew we or one of us were under our old car or one a neighbor had pulled into our yard while we were gone. Daddy just fixed things that friends had that needed his good fingers to fix. He was my Champion, still the memory is. Thanks for the sweet memories you bring back.fondly, mrsjob

That snow blower looks like a one I used to own when I lived in NH an old timer in NH told me I should by the canopy for my blower and I would positively love it - now that I am the old timer I will pass it along to you if they make a canopy (it like a plastic enclosure that protects the operator) you will not regret buying one. Before I bought the canopy I used to wear a snowmobile suit!!!! After you install it you can blow in a sweatshirt and no hat and you will not come in soaking wet.

We got by with a couple of inches. But we did get the cold for a few days. Just joined tonight. I have been watching your channel for a few months. Thank you for providing food for deers. I know they are a problem for my mother and her plants. I know they can present a problem here in North Carolina especially at night during May. I had the rare pleasure of seeing two albino deers about two years ago (May). They were crossing the road at around midnight. I came within twenty feet of them. It startled me. But it turned out positive. Though I did have a rather tragic encounter. I was driving below the speed limit one spring (around 5-6pm) and one young doe came out of nowhere and hit my tire. Unfortunately it died.

It’s just starting, with a driveway like that, you may be budgeting for a plow. If your thinking of a plow you will need something with a cab and heat. If you don’t want to put a plow on your truck, possibly a used Jeep. You can set the Jeep up with a plow and just use it on the property, not on the road. I hope you’re not offended, that’s a great snowblower. I got soooooo cold watching you guys use it. Thanks Joe.....Happy New Year!

Hey Joe just thought I'd pass on a tip for when you are using your smowblower. Before you start it spray some cheap cooking oil down the shute and all over the blades of the auger. It helps the ice build up and I always use the little plastic tool to clean it out when done. Wouldn't recommend leaving the cooking spray in y'all garage it might not like the cold temperatures up there. We're getting ready for our last weekend of hunting season here in Virginia there's a chance of showers but temptures in. the 40s and 50s.idt I could hunt in subzero areas like you do. Question? Would it be a bad idea.. For now to add a electrical wire and a smaller watt led bulb say 8w to the wood shed.. Attaching it to the backdoor ekectrical wire outlet..it don't need to be on all the time.. Just to see where is what at night.. And it's snowing. I know ur thinking of taking the woodshed down.. eventually..But for now the light would be kinda nice, and another outdoor spot light by the 5th wheel shining onto the driveway to the road or in shining towards the 1st garage.
    Stay safe..stay warm.. God bless

It's so nice to see how you and Melissa settling in to married life. She sure does love you to move from a tropical climate to the Arctic. I have done boyfriends for a lot less of the geography

We in Northeastern Ontario Canada got 5" that day, 0 degrees F, but woke up to -45 degrees F, that was a shocker to my system.

I like the way you show the life style that you live up there. It is not all peaches and cream but it is the way things are and it is what you make of it that counts. I do think a plow might be a good investment as you already have a truck that it could be mounted on.I use a blower but only have about 1/3 as much to clear as you. Keep up the good videos.

Love your potatoes. Man after my own heart. You might like to try sprinkling a little cornmeal on top to add a little crunch to the potatoes.

Joe spray your rubber seals on your truck doors with Pam or Wd-40 and they won't stick.

Also spray white vinegar (full strength) from a spray bottle onto your windshield BEFORE it snows. It will prevent your glass from icing over! And the snow should slide off! Use only the WHITE vinegar--you can buy the gallon size for extra savings. I use that here in eastern WA and works every time for me. Esp when rain turns into ice overnight.

Time to buy a plow. I snow blow my driveway in Maine in about 30 min and I wait till it stops snowing. Any longer time spent with a blower is time to think plowing. 👍🏻

Joe you should bring the old truck up and put a plow on it, that's a LOT for a snow blower to handle.

We had about 7 inches here in South Carolina two weeks ago. That is not normal for us. I love to see the snow but I'm glad we don't get it like y'all do. Stay warm Joe and Happy New Year!
