    Down here is SW Virginia, our garden is coming to a close. We had a normal spring and then our last rain came at the end of May. We then went 5 weeks without any measurable rain. You can water a garden enough to keep it alive but it is usually not cost effective to give it enough water for it to really prosper!
    Our Kale came in first and we froze up a lot of pint bags for soup and stews this winter. Next came the onions that we pickled them for tacos and burritos. Our corn went very fast. I pulled 2 ears as test ears and it was a little early. A week later was prime and we put up 15 pints of corn. One week later the corn was not as sweet and we knew it was past prime. We pulled all of it and put up an additional 16 pints of corn for soups and such. The tomatoes are real late due to the drought. They are starting to come in but the cooler nights and shorter days might mean a low production year for them.
    I am glad that I don't have to live off the garden like my great grandparents did!

    • @NorthernSeclusion
      @NorthernSeclusion  Před 28 dny +2

      It makes you appreciate what your grandparents had to go through each year to survive. Sounds like you at least had a harvest, some people lost everything this year, or did not even bother to plant.

    Hope you're feeling better Joe by time we get the next video and I had a good chuckle with your pot plant which looks to be doing well. Here in Canada lots of people grow their own pot since the Government took over the regulation and pricing of pot shops it can get expensive and once you find something you like you probably won't be able to buy it again once the strain has sold out. Anyway I wish Melissa a safe flight to Louisiana and looking forward to the cows coming home.

    Acorn squash is great if you cut in half and scrape out the innards then add butter and a dash of salt and cinnamon and bake it about an hour, you may have to slice the bottom of the squash to make it stay level but that is wonderful cooking. You have to try it that way, it's very southern but tastes delicious. TN cooking here but it's a family tradition.

    • @NorthernSeclusion
      @NorthernSeclusion  Před 28 dny +5

      He is still here, but after his cancer surgery last year, he has slowed down. He is an old dog as far as Rotties are concerned. His most favorite thing to do was run with the buggy rides. He would bark and jump around and just loved it. Now he will sometimes come with but not with the same enthusiasm and sometimes he comes out but just lays on the front deck waiting for us to get back. Joanie too is quite old for a Pittie and has slowed down a lot. We got Chunky from a Rottweiler rescue in Texas, we had him transported up here and the months before we got him he had been hit by a car and had many broken bones. That is when the rescue got him. We had to wait months for him to heal and have the surgeries etc, before he could come to his new home. He is 100% Melissa's mommas boy, he lives to see her and wines every day when he sees her drive up the driveway after work. Because of getting hit by the car he has arthritis and he has a hard time getting up off the floor. He is on pain medication and Thyroid medication twice a day. He is well cared for and well loved but he is getting old. I do not think he could be with a better person than Melissa, That girl would give her life for an animals life and I can assure you Chunky would give his before anyone ever got through the door going after her. He is a really great dog.
