      Dealing with 20 below vs a feels like of 115 is about the same. Melissa can not stand the heat, it makes her feel sick. I do not like when it gets that cold but it is better than feeling that hot. Winters are for doing projects in the workshop and ice fishing. I will get there eventually. Lol.

    My Grandparents were dairy farmers. They had a gate on one of their pastures that was a simple 90 degree angle that had no closure. It was only the width on an adult man. The middle strand was electrified. It was about 3 feet and then turned 90 degrees and was again 3 feet long. It confused the stock so they didn’t escape but allowed fishermen to enter to fish the crick which the Commonwealth stocked. It worked well. Just giving you another idea. The gap near your gate appears large enough for a calf to escape

    Having worked on small engines and generators for some time I fin the biggest problem is running small engines on any kind of gas with ethanol in it. It will cause croshion on any aluminum or cast metals and clog up the carb passages. I now only use non-ethanol regular gas ( we have a couple of stations that sell it) or if necessary premium. No longer have problems! Good luck! Great video on your up comming dairy operation!!!

    Question: Have you or Melissa had cows in the past? The reason I ask is because cows, or any large animal breed, take several years to learn. I've had both beef and dairy, heifers, steers, and bulls, and I understand the animal. My first recommendation is to find quality mentors to answer questions and who can offer help when needed. Whenever a problem/issue with a 2,000/3,000/4,000 pound animal occurs, you need help with at least one or two experienced people who will likely be familiar with and know how to safely address the issue. Secondly, spend physical time with each animal. Brush them. Pet and scratch them. Apply fly ointment to their fur. Talk to them and show affection. Cows who are raised without much human contact can be aggressive toward people. Finally, you must manner any large animal. In an 1800's veterinary manual I learned the best advice of all, to make sure they regard you with 50% love (being their reliable feeder) and 50% fear, meaning they are afraid to be aggressive toward you or Melissa. You both need to study up on mannering cattle. I've had every large farm animal and can tell you that, bar none, cows are my favorite. They are quite wonderful if you raise them right, and they are not a complicated animal like horses. One more thing: If you intend to keep just a few, halter-train them all. It's a lot easier to lead a cow onto a trailer, for instance, or into a headlock than to talk them into it, and such are times when they can get mad and squirrly if they don't want to do what you need them to do. Just as there are reasons to leash-train dogs, same with cows and all revolving around safety. Hope this helps.

    • @NorthernSeclusion
      @NorthernSeclusion  Před měsícem +5

      We had cows (steers) when I was growing up, I have spent a lot of time with them but it has been a long time. The cow is halter trained and the lady is actually working with her to refresh her on the halter training during this two month time prior to them coming home. It will be a learning experience and I appreciate the advice. I need to go talk to the people at the end of the (for now) dirt road we live on, they have probably 75 head of Angus. The people across the road from them have maybe a half dozen. Lots of cow people that live close by. Thank you.

I have seen more cars ruined by people putting car covers and tarps over their vehicles to try and preserve them!! After several years of being sick he had gotten older and decided that he would not have time to work on them before he passed away he had Dennis Colleen’s come and look at them and buy and Dennis and up buying most of them but after he bought them and started taking the car covers off all them he had found that the car covers definitely ruined the cars to almost none repair able!! Are you concerned with wolves in your area? I live in upper Wi about 3 hrs southeast of Duluth and have wolves in my area. I know you have issues up by your tent but what about the farmhouse?

      We have seen a wolf on the trail camera twice since we moved in. They must not stick around much though because I see no decline in all the feral cats we have here.

    Is the tractor sinking… or is it because you have winter chains on the tires still??

    • @NorthernSeclusion
      @NorthernSeclusion  Před měsícem +1

      I showed the ruts made from the front tires. Chains have zero to do with sinking in, in fact, they help you climb out when you get in deeper than you wanted. They have saved me many times.

    how many cows are you getting? 48

    • @NorthernSeclusion
      @NorthernSeclusion  Před měsícem +1

      You need 1 to 5 acres per cow (depending on how good your grass is) to have good grazing. We are fencing about 4 acres and that is if we fence that whole side field. To "graze" 48 cows, you would need 100 acres and still need hay as a supplement.

    Been alot cheaper to just buy raw milk

    • @NorthernSeclusion
      @NorthernSeclusion  Před měsícem +1

      Depends on who you are. We buy raw milk now and its about 12 dollars a gallon and a 30 minute drive one way to get it. Melissa makes butter and cheese etc. Getting back to what I said about it depends on who you are. These cows will pay for themselves just by me doing videos on them. Think before you speak.

    I love your videos. But not your advertising of products, your turning into everyone else please stay the same.

    • @NorthernSeclusion
      @NorthernSeclusion  Před měsícem +4

      This video had no advertising of products. I will not change, how about you read the title before you click on it since the title clearly states what the video is going to be. I have bills to pay and unless someone starts sending me a check to stop doing separate dedicated review videos everything has to stay like this. I mean no disrespect at all, but I cant make it any more clear in the title what the videos are going to be. It is you that has to choose.

      @@NorthernSeclusion I like watching the videos of products. I learned a lot about generators. My life is so totally different than theirs, but i still enjoy watching and learning how they live.
