The ship transporter still has much better range, ability to punch through interference, the ability to target people without self-teleporting badges, etc.
I asume that beaming through your own shields should be possible by 31st century. If you very carefull time it and open a miniature hole in the shields. But giving the badges the ability to read the shield frequencies or order opening a hole in the shield would be a *very* bad idea. Pretty sure they got over that 1 or 2 centuries ago. Better to limit that to a dedicated room wich has surveilance and security.
Just because they all have a tricoder now, does not mean nobody needs to watch the ships scanners anymore^^

This episode was so emotional for me.
We've all lost someone we loved.
For me, it was my father. I'm sure like so many others we have all thought, "If I could just have one more chance...".
I remember crying when she realized it was her mother.
In an odd way, it was really healing for me. I wish I could really go into HOW that is, but after watching that episode, I had a sense of peace.
This is why I love Star Trek...

IMHO since I only took intro physics, time is relative. Discovery Crew and mama Burnham count their ages according to how time passed for them (they're in their 30's and 40's, etc.). For after the Burn folks, the Discovery Crew is hundreds of years old. (But I wasn't an A study in physics.)

She sent a message to Terralysium that took two months because all the subspace relays had been damaged. Her mother had been anchored to Terralysium via the red angel suit. With communications so damaged and the location of the Federation unknown during her "gap year" there was no way for her to even begin to know where to look for her mother.

... Built by a human with Section 31 resources you mean. Who knows how many times Section 31 temporal agents have gone back and forth through time. Dr. Burnham is one of the few we know about. @@seanlamont8501 LOL Section 31 isn't some ridiculous time travel agency. If they were, a lot of the stuff that happened during DS9, especially involving Sloan, wouldn't have happened the way it did. It's as awkward as having Klingon timelords on Discovery that guard 'time crystals' ... 🤨

Your argument (I think) is that Dr. Burnham was just some random human physicist who just so happened to discover a way to travel through time in an EV suit. My argument is that she was not alone in her innovation. She had the full support of Section 31, and not even Starfleet has that sort of relationship with the organization on the best of days. As for thinking you know what Section 31 is capable of ... I've been to Langley VA. Not even the CIA knows what the damn CIA is capable of. That's my point. I understand what you're saying, but you have to put it all into context.

@@seanlamont8501 Admittedly, I'm not as up-to-date as I probably should be on ST:D, but I'm wondering how much of the Red Angel suit was purely Dr Burnham with Section 31 support.. based on the timelines I've been able to find, her suit was created before the crew of the Enterprise had encountered the Guardian of Forever or Gary Seven.. which leaves the timepod used by "26th Century historian" Berlinghoff Rasmussen, or possible interaction with other rogue temporal agents. (Depends, I guess, on how vigilant and proactive the temporal agents of the Federation Timefleet were..) Crewman Daniels (Enterprise, "Cold Front" set around 2151) occurred 105 years before season one of Discovery... so anything's possible. Perhaps some of S31's goons grabbed up some temporal goodies and were reverse engineering them for all we know..
