      I don't really know whether to consider myself a hater or not, but I follow these clips waiting for something of Discovery that I'll enjoy. I'll give it credit for its iteration of Cpt. Pike being absolutely wonderful in really bringing more of a sense of the Star trek that I enjoy to the show. My major criticism of the show has always been towards Commander Burnham. I absolutely enjoy the characters of Detmar, Georgiou, Saru, and even Admiral Vance, but every time Commander Burnham comes on to the screen, i am reminded of how little these other characters seem to mean and it's a shame. Saru had a wonderful arc overcoming Vahar-i (or however you spell it). He had a wonderful moment when he had to remove Burnham as his first officer, too, but a lot what Burnham says, her reactions, and actions all feel so off. Her role in the story feels as if it were something that should be shared and fulfilled by all the characters available and not just her. You might ask what is her role and I wish I could articulate it, but I can't find the words for them presently. Discovery has its merits and always will, but I just hope that it stops trying to force Burnham on all of us as the hero of every story and just let situations unfold as they should and resolutions be an effort of all crew members.

      My biggest complain to Star Trek Discovery is the aesthetics.
      Why so dark and glowing? From functional perspective, it's really not good for the eyes.

    This scene, combined with the one where Georgiou returns home, makes me think she'll be the seed that changes the Terran empire in the mirror universe for the better. This would also make for a great spinoff.

      @bobojo37 Před 3 lety +6

      Can't be, she arrives back prior to Mirror Spock rising to power. And at the time Kirk crosses over, the Terran Empire was as cruel as it was when Discovery first crossed over in season 1.

      Consider how many German scientists who worked for the Nazi were snatched up by the United States following World War II to help America in the Cold War against the USSR. The program was called Operation Paperclip. In politics, there are no permanent allies; no permanent enemies.

      @Jonsin 1459 the rest of you should watch the psyche channels on personality traits. Successful business people, politicians, soldiers, anyone, must have the Dark Triad of psychopathy, Narcissism, Machiavellianism, in order to achieve goals, get shit done, and earn wider respect. Nobody respects all talk and no action.

    I love the character study of Discovery. Why characters act and interact with each other makes for a good story. Some people like action simply for action sake. They also like their heroes white, straight and male. That's fine. There is plenty of those types of stories made every year. They only need to change the channel if a show displeases them.

    • @davfree9732
      @davfree9732 Před 3 lety +1

      If that’s the apex of why you think people dislike Discovery, then you need to widen your outlook, and not limit your perspective on those who dislike it.
      That you found something to like is good. But do yourself a favour. Do not pretend that gender or race is a dividing line for the Trek fans who enjoyed 50 years of Trek before STD. Trek fans of all denominations just need to ‘wear the ears’ and be part of the experience to be accepted. The modern divides inflicted on Trek by activists who sought to divide fans is the bigger issue that permeates into wider society. Not the fans of Trek of any and all ages.

    The first part of this scene makes very little sense to me.
    Why choose to use the sparring setup with many pads if you're just going to frustratedly beat on the one pad in front of you? With all the combat she's seen up to this point, even if she was taking out frustrations she would mix up her lack of technique shown here and use a minimum of three pads and use more than pulled punches.
