Mike was a bit short compared to his opponents on his era but he used this together with the Peek a Boo style to his advantage. In addition to his short height he will slip punches very low resulting to his opponent's missing their head shots.

only thing we get old cant move as i used to but still strech do wot i can herd of 42 blocks fighting in a prison cell got no space so ellbos and knees for my age i find can Handel a aponent if i have to thanks an respect
Tony I been doing boxing a year and I alway tried to avoid peek-a-boo because everyone use it. So I instead stick with the text book boxing at home for a year and i think i got a good grasp of it from watching you and other people with tips but I need to know. A person like me who is 5'3 and 145 pound, should I use peekaboo or not.
I got 1 that you probably never heard 🤔 I’m a huge fan of Tyson & a huge Tito Trinidad 🇵🇷 fan. I noticed Tito uses a similar style but is tall & lanky is he a perfect example of how to use peek a boo as a taller fighter? & can it be equally effective as a shorter fighter?
How to fight like Rocky Marciano next? Legend had 49 wins with 43 KO's. Any tips to master the pure slugger style? Great vid by the way!
Amazing that it's like a Muay Thai stance. MANNNNN if Mike even trained in that for 2 years...whew.
Scary to think about..
The amount of energy required to fight in this style
Evaders Holyfield once said that nobody could out work Mike in the amateurs
Moving up and down and side to side with such precision and speed is a sight to behold
Yeah, there’s a life span to this style, hence the difference between 80s Mike and 90s Mike.
THE BEST CORE WORKOUT EVER. Abs, legs, and upper body all engaged in Peek a Boo. I love the style. But it isnt for the the ones weak in cardio.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life John 3:16.
Mike solved the energy problem by just knocking people out by rnd 4. It's a great strategy .
@@richardaustin1887 had nothing to do with his decline… Don King, Robin Givens and Cocaine take that honor.
It's unbelievable that we get these great boxing videos and tutorials for free😳😳
Happy to help ma man
I was thinking the same thing just the other day.. I was thinking it’s absolutely brilliant. So many people would pay tons of money for lessons. And here we are, with an Olympic-level boxer teaching us. It’s just great.
Thank you. So much.
@@Tony_Jeffries please do more vids about Tyson
They arent free bro.. u have to pay for the internet, phone tablet or computer, nevermind the intense propaganda campaigns in our feeds and the amount of data youtube steals from you.
Nothing is free. There is always a price.

Mike is pretty unique in that he has a compatible body type for the style. He's short for a heavyweight, with low center of gravity, superb body control for directing various swinging strikes like uppercuts and haymakers. His height was a big advantage in this style and helped his defense immensely. Stocky with powerful legs. Excellent footwork for the style. Aggressive demeanor. Mike created a worldview that fed his aggression and helped him stay on the offensive. Mike had 'IT' at that time in boxing.
he is crazy explosive with his movements and his legs too are just raw power. watching how he'd jump squat while jump roping is insane
Mike is also very top heavy. He can easily and quickly lean into the punched and his arms have got mass too
Cant think of a person more suited to this style
It’s kinetic energy
I'm 5'9", in kickboxing, going against guys who are 6'4". I was looking for a technique to beat taller opponents and I think I found it. I noticed they are definitely slower to turn but had a huge reach advantage. I found when I did angles they had a hell of a time hitting me, they all want to go head on no side movements. I'm going to practice this! Amazing videos thank you!
Good luck
High low high low high low. Stay in the box, take their reach out of the equation, harrass them with highs and lows until you get an opening. Cardio cardio cardio
@@colesteffen7202 thx brother, I went against a shorter guy than me, and he smoked me with liver shots, convinced me low and high is a good strat so i agree
@@camels9654 yeah short guys got you beat with a lower center of gravity so I keep them at an arm's length. I'd just overload them on 1s and 2s while I dance around them and keep Establishing distance witb lead till a hook or two opens up to put em out
As well as low and high and you've got a solid strat
I used to box in peek a boo style as a raw amateur, but my last fight i had was against a shorter stokier fighter, and i had to box a different way, as everyone else i fought had been slightly taller than me, i don't think Mike had ever fought anyone shorter than himself so peek a boo was advantagious for him and his body type, as Tyson had extreme core strength.
Try integrating into Floyd Patterson's peek-a-boo style. He was a 6 footer that did extremely well with it too😁 best use it if you're the taller fighter for sure if you're going peekaboo!!!
@@yaboiirobert2238peekaboo is better for shorter fighters
He actually did, in his first professional fight against hector mercedes who shorter than him
@@moh.aryadi9325 I wonder if Mike has to kneel very close to the floor against a really short opponent to the point he is doing the pooping stance.
If you fix your mind that this tecnique its like this or like that , you will loose the instict that the peek a boo need to be free style movement
Tony, thank you. You’re an expert in your craft but on top of that you’re arguably as good an educator. The cherry on top is you’re not charging anyone for this invaluable info which means you’re a top bloke too.
These videos have been keeping my head straight, keeping me out of trouble.
Legend bro
The way he grounded his punches from his feet on up was astounding. Generating so much power even with short punch throws
Very good tutorial that's exactly what Tyson did ! His body type was perfect for that . Protecting his jaw was keeping him safe from counter uppercuts and constant head and body movements he was a charging tank .
Glad you liked it mate 🥊
If u don’t mind, could u please share this vid on ya social media please. Will really help me out :) All good if not 👊🏻
Love this vid! Been researching on Mike's style a lot lately. Truly insane how fast a guy like him can move

This was really helpful. Without realizing it, I was taught something similar. I was taught the stance, keeping cheeks covered by the gloves, and the elbows close to the body, but didn't have much emphasis on the footwork of the peek-a-boo style. My feet are more straight forward but I wasn't taught the moving back and forth like Tyson. That's interesting. I guess I was taught a variation of the style but not the true one like Tyson had.

Love from India.
It’s so uncomfortable to train my brain to fight like this but I see how it’s so unpredictable to an opponent

Your videos are fantastic, lots of intricate details in bite size details.
Tyson boxing stance is more like the Cuban stance
Front on stance, making both hands equally effective
Well said, thanks for the comment Thomas 🥊
Excellent!!
This is probably the best crash course on this style on youtube.
Wow. I always wanted to know this!
Lol I just left a comment on a video you did 2 years ago where you got the peekaboo guard wrong only to see you just uploaded this where you got it right. Great work investigating the style much love 👏
I have always wanted to ask u to talk about peekaboo style. Glad you have done this because this is the style i want to use
Probably the best video for anyone boxing to watch
Thanks!
With how hard and how many hits he would throw while always moving, it was always crazy to see his punches stay the same round after round. Dude was a monster
I love this style. It works really well for me because I have a Muay Thai background, and our stance and footwork is a bit different. The way Tyson used to use his stance and Implement his lateral movement is almost the way a Thai boxer stands. The only thing we cannot do is dip as low as he did or else I would get knee or kicked right in the face. Other than that the footwork angles and power generation can be used across both styles. Thank you for everything you do
I agree, I'm in Muay Thai as well and this style works well against larger opponents. What did you find worked best from this for kick boxing?
Oh wow, that’s cool to know!
EXCELLENT EXPLANATION OF A MIGHTY MAN (MIKE TYSON) IN BOXING. THANK YOU TONY, WE APPRECIATE YOU AND YOUR TALENT/SKILLS N DRILLS
