You only gotta get lucky once. Doesn't matter if you've done 1200 solves or 12. Your next epic might only be one solve away. It's a grind, I'm at 800 solves, still trying to get Zin'rokh, but at least it's afk as hell and I can do something on a 2nd monitor while doing arch
How can u know how many solves u have? I looked for the addons and they aren’t on curseforge?
@@jc53170 Weak auras or scripts. Try to google - Archeology Solves Counter for weakaura. But all methods have one annoying bug - after solve you need /reload to correct counts.

130 hours in 2 weeks on just archeology is insane lol..
Damn I got my Zin in about 210 troll solves and I thought I was extremely unlucky. Hope you get it soon.
I even got the shield and staff around 50 solves each and I wasn’t even farming them.

its not just pre raid bis, since you only replace it with HC item
Its gonna be replaced by HC item which is also a RNG drop, which also have a high competition. On top of that HC isn't joke, ppl are 100% better than in OG Cata but still, it might take quite some time until zin'rokh or staff is gonna be replaced

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm at almost 1,200 total solves. Around 500 Troll and 270 Dwarf. I've got the shield, and that's it. I don't even want the shield.
lvl an alt to 450 without solving trolls u have a good shit within the first 20 solves for it with the guarenteed 2 rares

@@mikedavid1945 that's exactly what I did with my first character. Why didn't it work? It's still only a small chance, same as every regular solve.

@@SolheimGaming There's a weak aura called Pain and obviously is tracking archaeology progression. It's funny when you compare the whole guild in the chat with !pain which displays the total solves of all players utilizing it. At least someone begins to feel sorry for you after that. :D
Should I wiat to solve troll till 80? Don't you have better rates for your first couple solves or am I wrong?
It has nothing to do with 80. Its about getting 450 skill. You dont get lvl85 epics unless you have 450 skill. So if you want you can lvl with the other race solves and not solve troll at all till you get to 450 for higher chance of epics
I think if Cataclysm will be rushed then they could improve the drops rates Archaeology has currently
2.1k+ solves in no trinket staff or sword. Attempting the alt tech, but all of my excitement for cataclysm has been killed by archeology.
Agreed tried alt tech leveled 5 total and I farm dual boxing dwarf dks, up to an insane number if solves but nothing to show which is a huge piss off

The probability of at least one success in 300 tries is approximately 77.69% in a single race for example Troll, yet there are people out there with up to 1000 tries who still haven't succeeded and feel like they've gotten the middle finger instead
Is there two versions of the hatchling or did they move it up to 525 after a couple of days? Because I got it my second day…

I got the hatching at 450 arch last week before launch.
They have too many important bugs to fix to bother with archaeology. This is just a good distraction while they scramble to fix those things.
I don't remember it being this hard the first time around. Wonder if your odds go up as you level. That's what I'm banking on at this point. I'm just toping off at 200 of each and I'll try my luck again on Tuesday.

I'm sure this has already been realised by now, but you CAN get the Pterrordax Hatchling now. I just got it at 450 Archae, with only 137 solves. So I have now completed Fossils.
Been doing a little bit every day since launch. Just got the shield last night and it’s also the only one I won’t use.

Have to agree with this. Still farming for epix. Got the low level mail head and cloth chest that will never be used because of heirlooms. Wouldn't mind some kind of actual progression. I think your token idea isn't good, but some kind of increase to chance of getting rare solves based on how much effort you put in would be good. Actually, without it, with archaeology being pure rng, the whole proffession isn't so much a proffession as an addiction. Lol.
I agree 100% also when you clear old raid like ICC after 5 weeks you get a token you can exchange for Invincible mount
A fail safe would be an excellent addition. Truth is even with 1000 solves, you’re no closer than you were after 10 solves. It just doesn’t feel good. However, my buddy got the staff and the trinket with 700ish solves. Stay positive!
Thought I had bad rng for getting zinrokh on 300ish troll solves… have seen some ridiculous number of attempts 5/600+ hope you guys get

It seems everyone in my guild is out doing archaeology. A couple of people have gotten the shield and one person has gotten the trinket. No one has gotten the sword / staff yet. I'm only at 203 solves, and don't see myself going past 300-350. At this point I'd be happy getting any epic, even if it's just the shield.
I feel like, they are already speeding up this expansion with the fast phases so i no argument to not put a failsafe on these epics.
Granted i have not spent as much as you, but i have been logging every day after work and been doing this non-stop and i have not seen a single one.
Did you get anything since you posted this?

I got the Hatchling the other day so they definitely made a change before yesterday. I got that right after I got the fossilized pet. I was like wait both in a row? 😂
I have 2 Chars with high Warlod, but im am since i got the Mount, with some pet and epics but none 85‘s
I got zin'rokh in 13 solves, 30 troll total. I think that's pretty much as good as it gets about 4h total. And did most of it when I was in dungeon queue at 84, so I actually had a couple of million xp pr hour while doing so
I just solved innkeepers daughter today, so it must no longer be bugged.
I was solving it while I was also solving the fossil mount, and I didn't roll any troll rares while I had those other two rares active, so there might be a limit on the number of rares in progress that you can have.
They did fix it last hotfix, you're correct. I don't think there's a limit on number of rares in progress, I had 4 in progress yesterday.

I had 4 rares up plus the orc mail helm at once. Still no 85 epic but have got everything else available
I'm so glad I didn't have 4k honor or Justice points, or I woulda been doing this grind too. The fact you only had the shield at 90 hrs of digging was a red flag. Now 40 hours later and you're in the same boat.. I'd be going crazy.
Also archeology was not available on the OG prepatch... so they make this change without making some kind of progressive change to make it a little more palitable. 100% ruined the prepatch for countless people
And locking OPTIONAL player power behind rng is fine I’d say more farmable than raid drops at least lol
Im 1200+ in... got the shield and trinket so far.. needing staff
I keep going back and forth with whether I want to continue this grind, probably around 300 total solves so not a lot my any means. Saying player progression is limited by RNG isn't really much of a point to make though as that applies to all the items you get from raiding etc. too
Agree 110%! The entire system is fine except instead of turning fragments into rng solves you spend the fragments on the items you want.
Like you I’ve been unlucky dual boxing dwarf dks solving tons but getting no results, rerolled a few times leveling a total of 5 characters.
I only want the sword, im professor title, got all epics except sword. Feels like im getting 90% fossils now that everything else is completed.
you could just increase the chance to get the epic with every common craft. So after a certain amount of effort you are getting it for sure.

I'm at 800 solves atm with no epic at all, but I genuinely dont want a failsafe. If you were guaranteed the sword after 500 solves if would become mandatory, now it's just luck so I don't feel the same "need" to dig.
Agree with all of your points, particularly the fossil pet locked at 525 that's just a slap in the face.
Absolutely need a fail safe ... Feels so bad this ... would have loved to do sooo much leveling new alts and stuff, but being serious about our raiding i kinda feel i need to keep farming farming...

They should do a system kinda like the legion legendary fail safe where after not getting a rare after so many solves it will increase odds of getting epic
I stopped at 400 troll solves. Haven’t been on in 3 days because like you said, hiding something this meaningful behind straight rng is trash. I’ve started playing a different game the last few days and idk if I’ll be back for cata haha
Zero epics in 110 hours myself...I really wish they'd adjust it
There should be a fail safe along with RNG. This design only makes me want to get in a pitch black room with a male blizz game designer. Make it 4 to even the odds. He would change his perspective in a beat ;)

I was doing this grind too for the sword. Then I remembered blizzard added wow tokens and am just going to gdkp a raid weapon as a buyer. That's the end of archeology for me.

Ive gotten everything except what i want. No staff. Im over 100 hrs also.
I'm just leveling archeology now because I can't be bothered to level it when Cata drops. RnG has never been on my side, so I'm not holding out hope to EVER get the epics.
I got stupid lucky with the sword and shield... Less than 100 solves for each. But I have no characters that I want either of those for, lol. No sign of the staff yet, but only about 220 solves in dwarf, so compared to you and many others, can't really complain that much.

I dont know but I can imagine those guilds would prefer to do raid trash farms instead of archeology. might be.
People burning out on the game is not good for shareholders... This is blizzard simply not wanting to put up the money to pay programmers to change anything.
They need to increase drop rates for the epics since blizz is speeding through this expansion
I got a good 20hrs in and then decided to just lvl a few 70s to 75 so I can learn cata profs
failsafe is the way to go. But will they do it? Probably not :(

or give some form of bad luck protection so the more you craft of a race the more likely you are to get an epic
I love that archaeology doesn't make you compete for a resource, you can be side by side with another player and you're both doing your own digging. no stress, no toxicity, just two people farming the same thing at the same time. nothing like trying to farm ore or herbs
Yeah I'll just get a 2H from heroics and a 2H from raids later, not worth 150 hours of free time for something that won't last past phase 1 but that's just my little opinion

DO NOT USE THE CHAR BOOST IF YOU HAVE PROFESSIONS TRAINED TO ANY LEVEL!!!!!!!!!! GO CHECK THE WOW CLASSIC BUG FORUMS!!!!!!!!! IT BRICKS YOUR TOON and makes your profs bug to 0/0... you cant level them and you cant untrain them.... whats more is this have been going on for weeks in the forums and we have got ZERO response from blizz

i have the shield, and even when i keep fossil maxxed, i have solve them because at some points thats all i have on both continents, yes 8 fossil sites.. seems after i got the shield the amount of fossil sites went up and thats the most annoying part, release the fukin pet already, this alone creates an obsticle in the way of getting the epics.

My experience with Archaeology so far; slowest gold farm ever. Almost 400 troll solves and 0 85 epics.
If you have this much time in it i have 0 hope of getting the weapon

i think it would just be much easier to follow the genshin impact method of every X amount of solves is a guaranteed rare, would make it fair for everyone
this way you atleast know you will eventually get it instead of grinding it thinking to yourself that you are potentially wasting all your pre patch for something you likely wont get

You shouldnt get your bis/pre bis items with a shovel before even expantion is out. End of discussion. Hence they shouldnt improve this to get it easier it should be removed

If they'd want this rng system to be a legitimate feature to encourage playing the game, all they'd end up with is a ton of burnt out and discouraged majority of players
