So the aprs on the 878uvII is it just becon or does it TX rx aprs messaging? I'm new to the hobby and don't understand alot of what I'm reading so sorry if this is dumb questions, but is aprs analog?

It's my understanding that the latest 878 can be set to beacon and receive messages, but not send them.

Havent seen any comment on radtel rt-830

Maybe because of their dirty transmitter which have too much harmonics. I have one Radtel and i better not use it on 2 or 1.25; 70cm clear however. And, they have no digital capabilities.

I considered the Icom ID-52A earlier this year, I like the inbuilt repeater location function that has a database of repeaters in the radio. But decided NOT to go with this radio due to the lack of REAL APRS and went with the Yaesu FT-5D instead.

Thanks for sharing your experience and rational. After getting the FTM 500 mobile I'm considering the FT5D as well. Have to $ave some more, though. 73
