I have the ID52A because of it's Bluetooth and Color Screen, I tuned off the Back light of the Screen, its a Transflex Screen that can seen in Bright Day light,
Requesting retransmission of missing blocks would be hard to implement as sending a pictures is often one to many. But if the sending station sends the picture multiple times the radio will fill in the missing blocks and only store the image one.
I still don't understand why Icom puts so many different portable radio's on the market in a short period of time. For the ID-52 you need a 3300mAh battery (aliexpress, 36 euro), otherwise you will have to use a full battery twice a day (1880 mAh battery is not enough for 10 hours). I live in the Netherlands and have the id-52A & id-52A. The radios are nice, I have 4 spare batteries 1880mAh.
Neither radio comes preprogrammed. If you don't want to do any programming, I would recommend finding someone who has the same radio and cloning theirs.
I kinda want to wait for an ID-53 or an ID-52B to come in to existence. Basically an ID-52 with USB-C.

Both are absolutely stellar radios. Either one far better quality than any recent yaesu portables.
How so? Have you worked with the FT-5D?
I have the FT5 in drawer next to the FT3, FT1, and FT70. All have had issues that required sending back to yaesu for repair.
@@garberinc I have never had a problem with any Yaesu radio.
Love the black and white display. Hope they never get rid of them completely.
Another great video Ben!!
Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing the comparisons.

Excellent info,1 question, what style of connection is the mic/ear K-1 or M-1 or something completely different.
I believe it's the K-1 style. The two pins are closer together than you see on most other radios.

Other than having USB C the only other advantage of the ID-50 was better battery life.
Do either of those two come preprogrammed? Due to my stroke I’m north the sharpest knife in the drawer anymore!

Is the battery life noticeably better with the ID-50 in comparison to the ID-52?
It wasn't huge but enough that it was noticeable.
Will a Micro USB to USB-C adaptor (in a USB-C cable), work in the 52 for charging and data transfer?
Haven't tried, but I plan to replace the plug in the 52 with a USB-C one day.
@@JaxRangeIs that as easy as removing the factory one and replacing with a usb-c? What about the waterproofing?
$132 for a spare battery, C'mon Icom
What till you see what Motorola charges.
I Wonder if they will ever make id-50a with a micro USB. That would let me plug it into my charger in the garage. 👍
Sorry but the ID 52 A is by far better quality than the other. Audio is far better . ID 50 sounds tinny. Smart money buys the ID 52 A.
Ideal would be an ID 52A with USB-C. I plan to mod one in the future.
Smart money buys the Kenwood D75
@@forgetyourlife Where can you buy a D75? Everything I see says they won't be shipping till next year.
@@Radi0activeBenthis January/Febuary is the release date I have heard.
Same exact speaker in both.
