P-38 Lightning Flybear FX-816 2 Channel Beginner RC Airplane Flight Test Review

- This ready to fly flying model of a WWII fighter plane is very easy to fly. A great airplane for beginner fliers and also for indoor winter gym flying. Find it here amzn.to/419rWUH
Pros
- Two channel (throttle and turning) RTF plane. Flight is controlled through differential thrust of its two motors.
- Simple controller with only three controls; power switch, throttle, and rudder control. Range of the controller is advertised at 200 meters, much more than needed for this small airplane.
- Common 3.7V 300mah battery provides over 10 minutes of flight time.
- Appears to also include an unadvertised feature of gyro stabilization (this feature is mentioned in its manual, but not on the box or advertisements for this plane). Normally a two channel differential thrust airplane requires momentary "bump" steering of the turn controls (rudder) to prevent rollover. However, you can give this plane full rudder, and hold it there. The gyro stabilization will automatically adjust the differential motor thrust to prevent the aircraft from exceeding a maximum bank angle preventing rollover. Unfortunately the stabilization also restricts maximum pitch angle to lessen phugoids, which also prevents loops.
Cons
- The provided 60mm diameter stock tri-blade propellers fall off very easily with this plane. You will definitely need spares. I replaced mine with dual bladed micro quadcopter propellers that held on very well, although they provided much more thrust than the stock propellers.
- The included instruction manual is very poorly written. However this is a very simple plane, and most should be able to get it into the air by intuition alone.

Bought this plane for my sons 11th birthday and wanted to see it fly before I give it him. Thanks for uploading this review it was helpful and looks easy to fly so I'm sure he'll have fun with it.
Great cheap little plane 101 wish I lived somewhere with no wind like you
Love the P-38. My Dad's cousin was a test Pilot for Lockheed on the P38. He was shot down over Germany during WWII. Exchanged back for another German prisoner. He was the original Hogan from Hogan's Heroes as he too was a Colonel in the United States Army Air Corp. The predecessor to the United States Air Force.
Great flyer for it's size, thanks for sharing!
Great review thanks man
Excellent plane to teach my son how to fly. good video👍😁
This little thing flies so well! But I've always found these little 2 channel planes more difficult to fly than 3 or 4-channel Glad you found some that fit, but they really need to supply 4 or 6 props with this model.
ya i bout the 747 boein or something like that its a 3 ch air craft i still have you can see my comment on his vid its the best plane ever
Try FX620... I never have problem wit them. But now I have new (this)P38 I do troubleshooting checking yt videos.
Cute little thing. I bet even I could fly it!
I've had this (or a copy) on my to get list for a bit.
LOVED the REVIEW
You are so funny!!

cool rc
hi ^^ I just came by to say hello

@@Quadcopter101 hi :)
A fun flyer.
Awesome
I've always had an affinity with the P-38 Lightning even though I've never been in the armed forces. :-)
Me too .I love the p38 .I plan on building a big RC p38
Great Review. Looks like something I would definityly buy even for some indoor stuff here in the cold canadian climate. I would love to hear your favourite picks for sub250gram aircraft to escape some of the rules put out by the faa and our canadian aviation authorities.
That's easy. Of the micros, I'd recommend this czcams.com/video/gbi1M4pB-cA/video.html
This micro is also pretty cool czcams.com/video/Cjcr3CfXWaM/video.html
were can i find the quadcpter propellers because my ones broke
I live in constant wind but im still geting the b 17
alittle advice dont use the chargers that come with it they are usb and are known for over charging or under charging th elipos and will destroy them after 10 charges.. use a lipo charger
Is there a website to buy replacement propellers?
..what happens if you remove the landing gear?
Question. Some drones that i have buy some of the videos is be really lagging. What is the best drone to get
I like the following. I think that it's the best of the mid cost range drones. There are no lag problems at all as it uses 5.8Ghz analog signal to transmit FPV. You can even use racing goggles with it. czcams.com/video/y_Z9TwB88XU/video.html

one common denominator to many good videos is no wiseass jackasses yelling snarky remarks, kudos to those that dont feel the need for jackasses to hang out with -always good vids, Quad
Very cool video.
Thrust controlled planes need to be flown at 1/2 throttle or so for level flight because they have permanent up-elevator to function correctly. One has to back off the throttle as soon as you start climbing. ZERO wind is best for these too. I got a thrust-steered Air Hogs F-14 nine or ten years back that flew the same way, except it had proportional differential control of the motors: i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n636/widdog/droid-1115.jpg
I put a proper RC system and brushless motors in my Flybear FX-816, and now it 100 times more fun to fly. Well worth the work required.
Any word if there is any more of the small airliners coming anytime soon?
No more airliners coming in at the moment.
Thanks I'm hoping for a MD-80 available somewhere along the line w/the old American livery, hopefully not something like "Wmerican"-like the Wnited Boyin 747...
Forgot to ask did u charge it again after loosing prop
Yes I did.
Are there trimming options for left and right? 😮
Nope, sorry.
How come yours is so much more maneuverable than mine? 😭
Wow...You really thought it might have gyro stabilization? How do you imagine this gyro would/could affect attitude without control surfaces? Psychokinesis? Its an inherently stable free flight plane with twin motors for direction control and thrust. launch it with the motors at 1/2 in a rate one turn and it will just fly. That one didn't want to loop because it is heavy and draggy compared to most planes with this control scheme.
It adjusts throttle automatically based on gyro input. If it starts pitching nose up, then it throttles down to lower the nose. It also throttles up to raise the nose if it pitches nose down. This is mainly to smooth out up/down phugoid oscillations. Gyro stabilization for two channel differential thrust planes has been around for about five years now. And I was skeptical also when it first came out. But it actually works . Here's the first 2 channel differential thrust plane that I flew with gyro stabilization czcams.com/video/ECYaeXrVdE4/video.html
The prototype P38 also had a nasty habit of flipping on an inexperienced pilot.
You sound like Phil swift
And by coincidence, I just used Flex Seal to patch up my swamp cooler on the roof. Great stuff!
This was my friend’s comment, he thought you sounded like Phil swift. I just subscribed and turned on notifications! I am sooo happy I found this channel as I wanted to get this plane and saw the video on the website!!
this plane is discontinued😥
It was a cool plane. Too bad its propellers kept falling off, leading to it being discontinued. But I did show in the video that they could be replaced with toy drone props for even better performance.
? How can it be stabilized ? Lol
The motors adjust speed to keep the plane level. For example, if tilting left the left motor will increase speed to bring the left wing up.
