I have been binge watching the Fast and Furious franchise recently and I am OBSESSED! Theory: over the many seasons of icarly, the crew has done a fair amount of not very legal things that could have gotten them in a lot more trouble than they should, stealing, breaking an entering, sending a doorman to the hospital. I wish they made more spin-off movies with more "fast" and car elements in it. It would've been a delight for car enthusiastics.
It may supposedly not be the real international money maker, but it sure would be good. Similar to the saying “quality over quantity”. Sure, that only goes to an extent when it gets to making an expensive movie, but it would be good to get more car elements in a car based series.
I believe they mentioned that the naming had something to do on what the movies are about. The first 5 being more focused on being "fast" and 7 to 9 being "furious" while the 6th movie is the transition between Fast and Furious.
Fast Five will always be my favorite among the entire franchise. After Furious 7, it just became extremely ridiculous. I still watch the movies just because I like the characters. I grew up watching them and I want to see how the franchise would end. But the true finale of the franchise for me is Furious 7. I wish they'd just go back to being Fast rather than being Furious.
Gotta say though. I love how they never forget Paul Walker and still always treat him as part of the "family" even after 7. His car arriving at the end of the 9th movie gave me goosebumps. I know he's not there. But it still made me smile.
Tbf I’d prefer the franchise return to street racing like the first movies, Tokyo drift is my favorite, but that doesn’t matter when you have family

Anyone else prefer the earlier movies when they weren't quite so far out there. Don't get me wrong, I like fast cars, explosions, and fist fights just as much as the next guy but when a car drives out of one skyscraper and into another thats just a little crazy. Fast 5 and earlier were my favorites and even fast 5 was a little out there.

6 onwards was were the franchise lost me. I much prefer the racing but atleast in 5, the plot was believable and they didn't do stunts so ridiculous that you are just left thinking "what did I just watch". Now I feel I am losing braincells when I watch the franchise.
yeah from 5 on it's completely different franchise , it's more like fantasy movie at that point. It's too disconnected to real world to me idk...too unbelivable.
Agreed! And sometimes I can’t even handle anything after Tokyo drift, which is also my favorite despite hating the main character. They’re all small and simple, not a big super serious thing going on, like say..SPACE. They’re still all kinda dumb but the earlier ones were also cheesy in a good way, the rest were just plain stupid

One thing that you forgot to take into account which I think is a huge factor is that the Rock was added into fast 5 and onward to revitalize the series. And for some unfortunate reason, anything the rock is in sells well

I feel like Furious 7 is an outlier when looking at the highest grossing films at the box office within the series due to Paul Walker passing away during the filming.
That ending was beautiful.
Regardless, it just shows even casual fans can enjoy movies such as 7

Congrats on hitting 10 million subscribers this is some good content that you're finally getting on to the fast and furious franchise. I honestly like Tokyo drift the most because of the car racing and the car talk, but not the last 4 fast and furious movies because of the fist fighting and less carnage, but I don't think I'm alone on that one.

Well the first 4 movies were “fast” because they were made for car enthusiasts while 5-9 were “furious” because they were made for everyone. 1-4 were movies centered around cars with action elements in them while 5-9 are action movies with cars in them.
even 4 though shifted to that action style. first one with the rock too. they shifted the formula (pun not intended lol) after the poor domestic reception of tokyo drift, even though that was the one that really got me into cars tbh

That’s because most people didn’t watch it, it’s not even branded as a part of the franchise and the story is basically self contained. But those who did watch it tend to like it more than the other movies in the series because it’s one of the best racing movies out there.

I love the first 4 movies, especially the first 2. I grew up watching them and they're amazing to me. It sucks they went away from car races because I think the first few had some pretty good plots with Brian and Dom, but they switched real quick and it's all so muddy now

Am I the only one who isn’t agreeing with MatPat? I mean at the beginning of the Saga the movies weren‘t that popular and after building up a huge and strong fanbase the people went to the Cinema no matter what! So its difficult to say that the people want more figjting scenes and less racing scenes because the whole franchise is still making money just because of the whole concept.
I love film theory. Film theory is always there. But you know who is also always there? Family.
Yes to get a more accurate result you would probably need to use the ratio of people from the old to the new films and use that with the price but I think it would probably still be pretty similar.

Well if the movies became more popular by changing over to more 'fury' rather than more 'speed', wouldn't that also say something about the later movies' aspects being more preferable to the earlier ones?

I’d say The Rock getting involved is what turned the franchise around, not a more optimal fastness to furiosity ratio.
I no longer watch these action movies, I rather thought the first more race focused movies where better..I would say the rock is where this franchise died....

I watched the first and it made my collection for semi-original storyline and ok race scenes. Just watching the trailers of the rest pulled IQ points from me, so I've avoided like the plague. Still, may one day check out Tokyo Drift since it seems more about racing and less about Marvel superheroes whose superpower is being an invincible movie character
@unidentified guy I watched the first 10 minutes of that one and was cringing so bad I had to stop. It may have more racing but I think the script was written by middle schoolers.
