- We received another package in the mail from one of our viewers! This package comes to us Bobbie in Virginia! In this video, Howard opens the package and prints the three large cuts we received.
These were sent to us from Virginia , but as Bobbie mentioned in a letter, they previously received them in England. These really made a connection with Howard as one of his favorite vacations was a visit to England with his wife. These cuts (two woodcuts and an electrotype) are now some of the most detailed cuts in our print shop. Thank you so much Bobbie for this wonderful gift and for your support!

It seems a bit difficult to even draw these drawings on a paper and somebody craved it out on a piece of a wood!?! Bless those hands❤ It's so beautiful and detailed❤
The name of the artist was Peter Gates. He was an artist who made cuts like these from the 40's til about the 70's. You can find some of his other work online or up for auction.

is this press you are using similar to the one benjamin franklins brother used to own, the one where Benjamin had his "Poor Richards Almanac" printed up on? as well as the Do-gooder widow-- anonymous letters from under the door of his brothers print shop?
Ben Franklin would have used what was known as a common press and was made out of wood. Our Washington hand press is cast and wrought iron.
