  • I found a few Sandisk SD cards online for a decent price at the time, but unfortunately, they turned out to be fakes. This video will go over the main ways I was able to determine that I was dealing with a fake product.
    I apologize for any inconsistent audio levels, I'm still struggling with audio regulation. All voiceovers were recorded when I was sick as well.

    I bought a 128 GB Sandisk card and it passed everything but the "Packaging doesn't snap" part. It is indeed 128 GB (Tested it), the adapter is like yours and says "2022-08-21 made in China". The card does say it was made in taiwan, but it's printed vertical.
    Before i had bought another that had problems, it failed the size test and also fails in everyway you tested on.

    How about the write/read speed on the fake? Does it poor performing, match or even better than the real one?

    Just came across your video. I dont really care to buy brand name SD cards from Amazon anymore. I buy them from best buy of walmart as I've had SD cards and when I would use the software you used it didn't show any errors and not sure where to check for speed. But i did however use a different software on a amazon basics card which I heard is made from a company who makes Lexar and i got way faster speeds than on any sandisk i checked out. In the past I bought I believe ever model of sandisk card even the ones that say EXTREME. In the end the amazon basic card ran more faster.
    I did go to best buy and buy a 512 gb card and ran this other software that shows the read and write. The top numbers I got are 90 mb read and 85 mb write.
    Is that any good? Their not over 100mb as the packaging of the lexar play shows off.

    I recently bought sandisk 128 gb memory card, and after putting it on my phone it says 134 gb lol, how do I check it's real capacity?

    • @doodlejkreviews
      @doodlejkreviews  Před rokem +7

      Unfortunately, the only way to check true capacity is to try using the sd card and seeing how much data is stored/corrupted.
      I used H2TestW as my example, which is software that just writes data to the sd card until the card is full, then checks the written data for any signs of corruption (this process takes a while).
      The amount of data shown as "ok" in H2TestW is the true capacity of the sd card.

      A Windows PC can check it out with the card adapter. I plugged a 256gb fake one into my hp laptop and right clicked on its symbol and went to properties and it gave me the real storage capacity (in a pie chart as well) of 31.96gb basically a 32 gig ... 😅

    • @janX9
      @janX9 Před 21 dnem

      @@user-fi1xu1pp7pSD cards can be programmed to tell windows a false card size, so using Windows properties will not tell you if you have a fake card.
      So you could have a 32 GB fake that Windows _thinks_ as a 64 GB card.
      That's why the software actually writes data to the card and verifies that nothing is corrupted.

    Just bought 4 Extreme Pro micro SD cards from a small shop in Akihabara at a fraction of the department store prices. More in line with the UK price. All looks good apart from the cardboard thing, it broke quite easily. The plastic part was sealed on the back. The backs of the adapters all have the correct production date and Made in China script. And the script on the cards is correct.
    I’m about to go and buy a couple DJi action cams, so I’m praying they’re legit and work okay as I’ve read about too many problems with San Disk cards in DJi action 3 cameras.

    like your way of opening it, and remember any warranty you get, always says it must returned in it original packaging, like in the shop new? 🙂

    I just ordered from Western Digital directly and it’s looking the exact same as the one on the left so I’m not sure why you’re saying that it’s fake. Mine looks like the one on the left and it’s a 1.5 TB and I plugged it in and it says 1.5 TB. Mine was also fairly easy to open as well. How would you explain that?

      This was just a video on my experience with fake SanDisk cards, I never claimed that every SD card that exhibits these qualities are fakes.
      To answer your question, though, I would assume that packaging varies by region. Those sold in North America should be difficult to open.
      As for self-reported storage, my point was that SD cards can be easily hacked to display the wrong storage size, and the only way to truly know is to test it.

    • @treasurehiding9
      @treasurehiding9 Před 27 dny

      @@doodlejkreviews I called the company to find out if they are in fact legit and they were, but the card was corrupt. I did buy it in the States as well. It sucks that there are so many scammers and counterfeit things out there that we have to test everything. I would never buy from Amazon or even ebay. Theres too many crooks. Amazon is mostly counterfeit. Anyway videos like yours are needed to open people eyes. Thanks

    Ok so imma say what i bought previously from what i got b4 this yr. So I got a 512 Gb and in the phone it says 400+ the 512 disk also hasba dark red and gray color and with the package I already teared it easily from the side...and lastly the adapter didn't say it was made from china or whatever on the back...I was thinking of returning it and get a different one

    • @doodlejkreviews
      @doodlejkreviews  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Where did you buy it? From a reputable seller like Best Buy, Target, etc. or randomly online? Random online listings are generally less trustworthy.
      Also the price can be a giveaway, looking at prices now, a 512gb card should cost at least $35, with better versions costing more. Since you say you bought it a year ago, when prices were higher, anything under $40 is suspicious.
      Of course, you can always test the capacity for yourself, but 512gb will take a long time.

    • @doodlejkreviews
      @doodlejkreviews  Před 7 měsíci +3

      Hello, I appreciate the feedback, but I am unsure as to what you are saying.
      Testing products is not a complete waste of time, since the software can just run in the background while you are doing something else; I was not sitting and staring at my computer for however long the test was running.
      Testing the product is also far better than having missing/corrupted files when you need them because you did not test the legitimacy of the device.
      What "other main ways" am I missing? I know that the most simple method that people can understand is a capacity check.
      There is also using software like CrystalDiskMark to test the speed and iops of the device, but I am afraid that most people who already understand using this program do not need this type of video.
