    Hi Bob. Thanks for the update. What do you hear about the “China Camp” in the Darien?

    • @panamawave
      @panamawave  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Traffic continues, but it's not "China's camp". Citizens of several dozen nations are there, but Venezuela normally represents about 60%, sometimes more. If you combine the next four - Haiti, Ecuador, China, and Colombia - together they are are less than half the Venezuelan total. Vietnam, Afghanistan, Peru, Bangladesh, Angola, Brazil, Nepal, and India follow them and many more. It's being dealt with as best as possible. We are in the middle of an intense election period here, but it is not an issue here

    Thanks for the summary. I am anxious to get back. BTW Tim' Hortons and Burger King were combined in a company owned by the Brazillian company 3G Capital.

      I know, but I still like to think they carry on the traditions they set as a Canadian firm. I'm a little old-fashioned once in a while!

    Well Bob glad to see your doing better. A couple of thoughts that l pick up on the streets of Panamá, first the 34 days of peaceful protest is over which went on to long just ask the locals how it effected the bottom line of their business, taxi drivers, restaurants owners, venders people who really got hurt financially. Second the landfill fire is finally burned out after 11 days of wonderful smelling air which caused burning eyes, third stay off Highway 1 the congestion from Line 3 is going on and what a mess, there is water in the canal l saw it yesterday while coming back from Punta Chama. Two businesses that did great during the peace protest was my owner friends at the local canteen from beer sale and Panamá flags made in China. Now for the great news, it’s Carnival time!!

    • @panamawave
      @panamawave  Před 6 měsíci

      Yes, everyone is aware that the protest went on longer than it should have, but that is history. And the landfill burning was awful, evidence of what happens when rain is rare. One good storm and it would have been put out for good, but we have to wait for the rainy season and hope it's a normal one.
      Metro Line 3 on the western side of the canal is about 80% done and is expected to end around mid-year. The tunnel under the canal connecting it to the city-side and Line 2 will not be operation for a couple years. Tunnel-boring begins this year.
      As for the Canal, of course it has water in it! We reduced the number of daily passages from 38 to 24 and reduced the weight that each ship could carry to keep things moving and it is going well. If you keep your eye on reservoir levels - panama.aquaticinformatics.net/Data/Dashboard/1 - you will see that the Canal Authority has really held the line on the big Gatun reservoir and used the surplus at the smaller Alhajuela reservoir wisely. Obviously, we can't get back to normal without rain and one thing is guaranteed - you can't win an argument with Mother Nature! But given the circumstances, so far, so good.
      One thing is sure! It is Carnival time and we know how to enjoy that while we're waiting!

      🎉Bob , what effect do you think the Mexican canal will have on Panama?

    • @panamawave
      @panamawave  Před 6 měsíci

      Too many uncertainties. Too many variables. Too little experience. We are focused on what we need to do. Good luck to them.
