  • The memes around this movie got me looking into it more, which convinced me to give it a rewatch and I ended up delving into the rabbithole of this corporate nightmare. O'hare looks funny though hahah
I swear this time the next video that's coming out is the Malcolm in the Middle one, it's well into development and I'm constricted on time at the moment hence why it's taking longer.
Might do an editing livestream though, let me know if you'd want that to happen.

yea heres the comment: Hey everybody--Cinco Paul here, I wrote the lyrics to "Biggering" (John Powell wrote the music) and it means so much to me how many of you have embraced this song. We personally loved it, but as many of you have guessed the higher-ups thought it was too dark for the movie. The tales I could tell about making this movie! Anyway, I'm going to let John know about this--I'm sure he'll be thrilled. Thank you, Gloria, for this amazing storyboard, and thanks to all of you for your great comments about the song. I'm so glad it finally found its audience.

3:30 and this is where I disagree: why does a main character absolutely have to be a virtuous white knight?
He's a teenage boy who wants to impress a girl because he's in LOVE... nothing wrong with that. And, at the end of the movie, towards the ''Let it grow'' song, Ted actually DOES care about trees and the environment. So what's problematic?
Also why does the Once-Ler have to be necessarily depicted as pure evil to be a good vilain? In fact, almost nobody is truely ''evil'' in this movie: even O'Hare is not ''pure evil,'' he doesn't like the idea of trees because, from his perspective, trees represent a threat for his business; which is morally wrong but not necessarily evil.
O'Hare is on top of a system that he benefits from and most of us would have done the same things the Once-Ler and O'Hare did for our own profit.
The truely evil characters, on my perspective, are some members of the Once-Ler's family, especially his own mother: she never gave a sh*t about him, she never believed in him. She only got interested after his business became successful. That's what I call an evil character. The Once-Ler (the 2012 version) is a good guy and an interesting character: a young man who left home because his family didn't even like him in the first place, so he wanted to start his own business and, for a while, lived as a hermit in a nature reserve where he was friendly with local wildlife. But he got blinded by greed and only noticed it was a mistake after the very last tree got down.
The animal-exodus scene is really heartbreaking because the Once-Ler has this ''What have I done?'' moment; which is something he already had in the original 1972 version.
Both the 1972 and 2012 versions of the Once-Ler depict a person who's not inherently evil. In both versions he realized the mistakes he made and wanted a kid to be aware of trees and the environment in the hope of preventing the same mistakes from happening again. 2012 'The Lorax' is not a good movie but it's definitetly not the catastrophic failure some people claim it is: it's a ''meh...'' movie.

personally, if they cut out all of the thneedville shit, the movie could be called a decent movie. i kinda like the once-ler parts and if they just show ted going to him, the story gets told, maybe we're shown a little bit of thneedville but not for too long, he comes back, story is finished, ted gets the seed, dont show what happens in thneedville after he gets it, cut out all the "let it grow" parts and just show what happens after that, lorax comes back, end it there. maybe the movie wouldnt suck.

The main problem with HBCIB is it shunts the blame off of the Onceler who's meant to be the standin for big corporations, it says, hey how bad can I be but it never out says this is how bad you can be, it walks up to the finish line and just doesn't cross it. Biggering is better because it doesn't paint the Onceler as oblivious to the damage it paints him as knowing but turning a blind eye, corrupted by greed to keep growing his business, not inherently evil simply consumed by greed and pride, the easiest things to be consumed by, which is why they were name 2 of the deadly sins in Christianity. This movie was an adaptation of a book meant to be an environmental message about corporation's greed damaging the planet and the fact that a company making a movie that at first was speaking against everything it was doing and not being willing to stay true to the message of the source material raises the question why did they even try, because in the end it's not about song quality or how it fits it's about message and properly adapting the message of the source and they just didn't do it

How bad can I be is a good song and I enjoy it, but Biggering is just on a whole different level. how bad can I be is a catchy, poppy tune that is easy to get stuck in your head. Biggering, however, is an incredibly intense, powerful, moving dark rock opera masterpiece that perfectly displays the horrors of corporate greed and consumerism.
so despite my frustration at the fact that they cut the song, I personally think that they could have easily fit both songs into the movie, with biggering being a soft reprise of how bad can I be through it's maxed-out intensity and scaled-upness.
