- In the middle of midterms, some students are being blocked from entering certain parts of campus because of the pro-Palestinian encampment at UCLA. Amanda Starrantino reports.
If I paid to attend that university, I would sue for my money back.

Dig deeper. There is case law that allows for certain reasonable restrictions. These restrictions are similar to restrictions to the first amendment (can’t threaten violence as an example).

I don't know if that's true. When there were Covid lockdowns, there were MAGA crowds with weapons, including on the governor's property. Nobody was arrested. In my small town, there was also a huge demonstration over the right to enter a specific bar. Even some of the school teachers demonstrated. Again, not a thing happened.

Most of the protests are to get universities to stop investing in israeli companies. Obviously any one university’s investment isn’t a huge monetary impact on its own. It might be comparable to several bake-sale’s worth of profits, but they are trying to start a larger movement like what happened in the 60’s when basically every institution in the West pulled their money out of South Africa. It put a lot of pressure on the country to change its behavior.
Also, a bake sale or other charity event requires donors. It will cost Americans money, which well then be thrown at a problem abroad. Moving investments out of israel doesn’t cost Americans anything (because there are plenty of other profitable investments to make in the world), and it combats the issue more directly by taking money away from the country which is using it to bomb civilian, hospitals, etc
it *should* be something which is relatively easy for the universities to just Do, hence why students are frustrated and protesting
