Ravens can talk!

This is Mischief the White-Necked Raven. These ravens are found throughout eastern and southern Africa, and are common near human habitation.
Like all members of the Corvidae family, ravens are extremely intelligent. They use tools to get food if necessary, and can even mimic human speech!
Cool facts about White-Necked Ravens:
- Their main diet is fruit, insects, and small reptiles, but if they find a small tortoise to eat, they will lift it up and drop it to the ground to break the shell.
- Ravens are some of the smartest of all animals.
- Since they are very social by nature, ravens are also some of the most playful of birds.
- Ravens display a strange behavior in the wild called "anting". They roll around on anthills, let the ants crawl all over them, and then they chew up the ants and rub them through their feathers. Scientists are unsure why they do this.

It seems he's learned that his human's laughter is positive reinforcement. :-) When she starts laughing when he says "hi" instead of "hello," he keeps doing it. I've noticed dogs and even pet rats are capable of learning this same concept, so I'm sure ravens are more than capable of it as well.

He actually sounds more convincingly human than any parrot I've ever heard
Old comment but fun fact, ravens have a much deeper vocal range than parrot which allows them to sound a lot closer to a human than a parrot would!
another fun fact, ravens are also the smartest bird on the planet and have roughly the intellect of a 6 to 7 year old, though they don't have the same level of speech comprehension as a human, so you can't teach them really how to talk.

Underrated comment.
XD
The fact that he knew "Hi" and "Hello" to be interchangeable clearly demonstrates a genuine understanding of the abstract meaning behind the words, which means that he wasn't just doing a trick; he actually SPOKE. He communicated the abstract concept of a greeting exactly like we do, and when he didn't get his treat *he doubled down on his answer*. And just as we can easily infer the logic behind his answer, when he looked at the cameraman it was immediately obvious what he was thinking. "You believe this broad? I said what she wanted me to; where's my treat?"
No.
It actually means that he can tell sounds apart, and mimic them.
Next to Owls and Eagles, Ravens are some of my alltime favorite birds. My great grandmother had one as a pet before i was born. Very intelligent creatures

Very true, many parrots sound like a the chipmunks (movie). Having said that, the African Grey Parrot, which is apparently the smartest parrot in the world, can produce the same tone as the person speaking. Its mimicry is perfect.
