The former NBA first overall pick Kwame Brown, often known for being outspoken and his public rants about life, society and what’s wrong with culture and sports, joins The Pivot today for an in-depth conversation about who he truly is as a man and what he stands for.
Ryan, Channing and Fred sit down with Kwame to peel back the layers of this once basketball great and find out if it’s anger or frustration that fuel his words.
Selected as the first overall pick at age of 19 in 2001, Kwame talks about his experience as a child and rough upbringing to making it out to discover a life as not just a professional basketball player, but one of the best in the country at his young age.
Kwame talks about playing with Michael Jordan, the misconceptions of his rookie year and why he was labeled a problem player and later known as a bust. He shares his experience of playing with Kobe Bryant and being on the court for the legend’s historic 81 point performances and also how Kobe shaped him as a better player and man.
Sharing his truth regarding past issues and incidents between his ongoing battle with Stephen A Smith, the use of the word bust and former players speaking out on him- Kwame is not holding back and using his voice as an open book through his platform.
Working now to help today’s youth and provide an outlet and teach through his experiences, Kwame is focused on bringing reality to young men in the community and helping them evolve into better people with hope through opportunities.

Kwame was never even supposed to make it under his circumstances but still won at life. Respect.
What being 7ft tall? Lmaoooo
@The Esquire of Sports ® Being 7ft tall and relatively healthy you'll go pro whether it's in America or abroad. He hit the genetic lottery and fumbled the bag. The man in the mirror should get the brunt of his frustration.
Dude is 7 ft.
The guy was in the league for 13 years and he didn’t get better. He can’t put that all on Michael Jordan and the media. It’s everybody else’s fault but his
Even if hes 7ft.
His mom was broke, family in poverty, brothers in jail, dad in jail, uncle in jail (literally most of the older men in his life that are supposed to be models).
He had to work on top of practice and maintaining good grades just to pay the bills and have a place to sleep when all his older bros/unc were in jail (i was a student athlete this isnt light), etc.
Most people in his position wouldve fell to gang life/ or the streets to get money to help their family, especially in poverty stricken areas. He couldve ended up like his brothers and most his older figures.
Shit is really not rocket science.
‘It’s going to take more than a celebrity giving out a turkey to change our community.’ Thank you Kwame for sharing your wisdom, realness and heart.

Listening to Kwame has helped me to learn more about myself. I'm guilty of forming a judgment about a person based on what the media has said about them...instead of finding out about them for myself...Thanks to the Pivot for this insightful and meaningful interview...
Right this should be a life listen for all people to not judge people off the thoughts of others, but to form your own when you get tho know that person personally.
You should do this with the MSM too. Get prepared to have you're mind blown if you do. Everyone should question everything THEY tell us
This is one of the best interviews I have ever heard. They allowed Mr. Brown to talk without interruption and he in turn articulately expressed his truth; a truth in which many indigenous black Americans can relate.
Real talk! 💯
He doesn’t come off as angry to me. He comes off as a man who is being attacked, and he’s attacking back.💪🏽

I am a Black man, living in Shanghai, up at 5:50am, and was able to watch the ENTIRE podcast. As black males in the USA, and really most of the world, we are also seen as BUST. I can truly say, RC and all of the Pivot crew, you guys really on another level and please, keep letting men like Kwame keep it real and tell their stories in their own voice. You got fans on the other side of the planet. I am always ridin' with the Pivot podcast. Much respect and love from Shanghai, China.
A Chinese person who loves nba because of Yao Ming is also watching this video. I got your comment. I'm from Shanghai. I live in Shanghai ❤️. Brown was Yao's No. 1 pick the year before. I can't believe he's been through so much and he's still so comfortable with everything. Very respectable.

Exactly. That goes over people head. Maybe he didn’t reach the expectations that they had. 13 years tho is a great career. That’s well above the average NBA career.
You can actually. The word bust means you didn’t live up to the hype at all. He’s not the first person to be called a bust. They were calling Sam Bowie a bust back in the 80s because he was drafted #2 in front of Michael Jordan.
They also called Michael Olawakandi a bust in the 90s
@@OmegaMusician2008 Agreed. The term bust doesn't mean that one can't have a successful NBA career. I think its ridiculous to put that much heat on young athletes to begin but thats another story.

Reach your own kids first
@misthompson9121 I am an all in father and have raised two fine young men that I am amazingly proud to be called their father. May the light and powerful words of hope, love, peace, and good intentions find root in your soul today. Thanks for inspiring a moment for me to celebrate the reward of doing the good and, sometimes, difficult work of responsible parenting. Be blessed in every of your life endeavors today. May you continue to bear the torch of giving light to darkness.

David Chappelle said,"In order to tell you the truth I have to make you laugh."Think about that R.C.
“People will give you an excuse but, they don’t want you to make them “! 😮 never thought of it like that 👏🏾

Kwame Brown on the Pivot is an episode I never thought I needed, but I wholeheartedly enjoyed. Thank you fellas for another banger of an episode!
BLESS YOU , GERALDO MEDINA.

That man said he's been ready all his life.... that was powerful!
This is definitely one of the best interviews I've ever seen in my 48 years! Changed my perception of Kwame and reinforced my opinion that you can't believe all the hype and nonsense that all these supposedly experts put out there for money and clicks! Great interview guys!
Honestly one of the best interviews I’ve watched and listened too start to finish from ANY professional athlete. The world got a wrong impression of this dudes character. He a real one. 👊🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Man I'm so glad they finally had this brother on their platform. He has alot to offer. He reminds me of some of the kids I've coached that all they need is a chance. Shouts out to the cast for making this happen

Yes well done! They strategically ask questions to get great answers from Kwame. You can see them thinking on how to intelligently ask them questions that won't offend him.
Agreed! No one else could've done it better!
They asked tough questions and didn't sugar coat a thing.

Exceptional interview. Never Judge a book by it's cover... Respect to Kwame Brown for staying true to who you are. Salute 🫡🫡🫡
Kwame is highly intelligent. Very well spoken and a great presence. He definitely could’ve been a commentator with that voice. Thanks to The Pivot for not being afraid to have him on and hear his story. He’s a great interview for any platform. Y’all were the first.
hands down this the best sports interview show that’s ever been produced. your questions are so well thought out and deep. i e never seen nothing as good as you guys .
please keep this going for a long time
Excellent podcast all of you. Thank you for sharing your story. Was wanting this to be 2 hrs long just hear more. Way more interesting than I was expecting.
One of my favorite Pivots ever. Kwame Brown is 'that guy'.
A very intelligent brother that was not going to allow someone else to dictate his life. I support and admire his honesty.
Y'all came hard with this one Kwame doesn't do a lot of interviews this should be real interesting shout out to the pivot podcast you guys stay killing it💯
Beautiful interview. This is making me seriously question. Why was Steven A Smith, a sports analyst, at high schools and colleges, speaking critical of Kwame Brown? Questions that leads to more questions I suppose. Great interview gentleman.
Such a well spoken man that has been through "LIFE". He keeps talking about the kids. This is the type of person our kids need to look up to, not all these devil worshippers.
