People missing the point. You can lift heavy ass weight once you're awake, but this is just to not feel like garbage first thing in the morning. Your weight training will suck if you're half asleep.
These are not exercises for "boulder shoulders" or vascular abs, just a routine to kickstart your day. If you do stuff like this on a daily basis, 50 years from now on you back, hips, shoulders and knees will thank you for it

My papaw lived to be a few hours shy of his 97th birthday. He exercised like this everyday for as long as I can remember and he was always a strong lean man. Also, he drank one small glass of red wine every night. I say this because I believe in this day and age people think they have to go to a gym, when all they really need to do is just USE THEIR BODY not a machine. Good show man!
Most people have to go to a gym because they arent doing physical labor.
@@theavenger1500 That's the thing. 120 years ago most work was heavy, manual labour. look at old photos of men from that era. very few "tubbies" among them. The other factor was diet. Mostly unprocessed food with plenty of natural fats and veg.

Horrible? Most - if not outright all - of nowadays' ultra-processed, GMO-laden, chemicals-covered, sugar-stuffed, and salt-soaked junk coming from hundreds of miles away is indeed horrible.
Back then, all of the stuff was organic, and brought way more nutrients.

One of the stimulating energy things what I've found is to drink a glass of water right after you wake up. Since your body is dry after 8 hours without water it's gonna fire up your metabolism and give you a lot of energy.
actually a lot of stars and fit people say they start their day with a glass of water and lemon or mint in it. there might be something behind it

glad I found this video. I have been trying to figure out how to get back into exercising since I put on 100 extra pounds these last 2 years. doing the typical thing was hell on my knees and back. this workout, in contrast, is comfortable enough to do every day and hopefully can get me to a point where my body is well enough to allow for more impact exercises. thanks a bunch for sharing this!
Walking is also an excellent low impact activity that will assist in strengthening your body whilst reducing weight. Good luck!
Yeah honestly walking around and doing simple excercises like squats like just a couple everytime you go into the bathroom nothing insane just manageable when you start to feel it and drink a lot of water too lol

This is a perfect starting workout for those loving workouts that only need bodyweight or every day items. It's cheap and you can easily do it wherever you go.
As for the cold bath, my bathroom only allows cold showers ... works too.

Hi This is an excellent video. I have been doing similar morning exercises for years. I make it my 1st warm up training session. Ankle turns knee turns hip turns etc broom handle twisting, working and warming up all the joints followed by some light stretching and some abs work if your up 4 it. Usually takes between half and 1 hour, it keeps the body pliable I would definitely recommend this but add your own stuff and change it regularly to stop any boredom setting in. Do it before you eat. you can even have a coffee break and go straight into your weights session before breakfast.
I have started to do this as part of my morning rutine, im busy and i gotta get from my house 6 in the morning. So it just feels good to do some simple morning exercise, thanks art of manliness!

I used to do a similar wake up routine back in my most productive and athletic days. This type of stuff works to gear the body up for a productive day
The Wim Hof Method and some meditation gets me going.

When I worked for a municipality we did most of these exercises 5-10 minutes every day before work. It's great stuff.

I do something similar every day but I think it's necessary to note these exercises shouldn't take longer than 5 minutes or nobody (who may be so inclined to be lazy) will do them. You want to make it enough that you'll do them everyday without fail and slowly increase over time, but not so much that you say "to hell with this shit" and stop entirely.

Also I think that 5min a day is fucking bullshit. This will make no difference at all! For lazy people I would recommend a short strength workout with bodyweight (push ups, pull ups, squats, dips). This should take no less than 15 minutes. This is the absolute minimum. Or do you really think that rotating your fucking shoulders will make you healthier and stronger. I call bs. Also the "strongman" is not even muscular.

Sounds counter intuitive, but it's legit. I get up at 5:30 am and just do some simple stretches, nothing even approaching strenuous, designed to hit my problem areas. Wakes me right up. Try it... the only thing you have to lose is your exhaustion.

I do that shoulder spin thing as a warmup for weightlifting. I learned it back when I played football and we did a calisthenics warmup at the start of practice.

So great !!! All these exercises are promoting health, I personally believe people lived in that times were much more healthier and stronger than our modern day people.
Is that why they died at 35?
In 1901 supposedly the average life span was about 46 to 48 years, today it's something over 70 I believe. Not trying to argue, just throwing some stuff out their 😜 but then again that's just from Google. I do see what you mean by healthier though, they just didn't have as advanced medicine as we do now a days, amongst other things.

Remember - this was just there morning wake up routine - then they went out and did the heavy stuff - plus this was a crib sheet for the every day Joe to get some sort of exercise.

Not really. These older bodybuilders trained less and focused on slow contractions as much as possible, realizing that strength is based on tension, not in size, which is why modern bodybuilders can't hold a candle in terms of strength to these guys.
+Cameron Hewett except that's not true. modern bodybuilders are many times stronger than those guys. mass increases strenght; tho it's not the only factor in it.
"Except that's not true..." There's a reason bodybuilders today are always in the gym... They need to keep filling their muscles with blood... Also, competing in IBBF essentially requires being juiced to the fuckin tits. The feats these guys performed were far more impressive because they were doing them with no supplements until the 50s and 60s and they typically had clean diets.

Great vid. Very helpful.You did the second shoulder workout wrong. If your shoulders start to hurt or your not getting the full benefits its because knuckles should face down for that one, which is another way of saying palms up!
