    There were so many opportunities to prevent Anakins fall. The Jedi weren't evil, but I do think they were ignorant and naive. Even at the very end, Anakin reveals that Palpatine is the Sith Lord and the Jedi took Anakins loyalty for granted. They left him alone when he was most vulnerable. Palps seemingly gave Anakain an out ... a way to deal with his fears. The Jedi just assumes Anakin followed the same structure they did. Had the Jedi been more empathetic and aware of Anakins need for love and loyalty in turn, they could have been more able to intervene without blindly dismissing anakins attachments.

    I think Anakin, being more able to sense the Force, knows that there is so much more to discover. The other Jedi could not see the vast universal sea of the Force as Anakin felt it because of his high level of midichlorians. I think this is what made him a maverick in terms of feeling the power of the force.

      Honestly it was pretty common in the Jedi Order that extremely powerful Jedi were often Mavericks seeing much of the Force the council in their narrow self-assured view could not. At least in legends and according to the Plagueis novel there were only 3 Jedi in the order who could see the writing on the wall in terms of what was coming. You had Sifo Diyas who was one of the few Jedi still able to somewhat see the future. You had Douku who didn’t need foresight because he had an acute political awareness of the state of the Senate the Republic the Chancellory and what the Jedis roles were becoming. Finally you had Qui Gon Jinn who was in tune with the Living Force and could see how the order was straying from the supposed will of the force and what was waiting in the wings for when they were past the point of no return. So what happened in 32 BBY? Sifo Diyas ordered the Clone army paid for by Damask Holdings, Qui Gon died, and Douku finally had enough of Jedi dying for no reason but the council working with the Republic so he left the Order.

      The problem was, from what I've heard, Obi-Wan was kind of a rule breaker, but one with a strong moral compass. The Jedi send him with Qui Gon, so instead of breaking the Jedi's rules, he break his rules and got Obi-Wan to align himself closer to rules of the Jedi.
      Had Obi-Wan actually adopted more of Qui-Gon's wisdom and philosophy, he would've become much more successful with Anakin, I think.

    I think Qui Gon would have tried to address many of these issues, including trying to free Anakin's mother. The failure of his not to shrug off being run through with a lightsabre meant, of course, that he didn't get the chance. But while I can see the Jedi Order telling Qui Gon that it wasn't their place to get involved... The people I blame for what happened to Shmi are the people of Naboo: I mean, a 9-year old boy just saved your whole planet. Surely the whole planet could afford enough translatable wealth (Since Republic Credits are out) to free ONE slave. The mother of the hero who saved all their rears? While good deeds should not be transactual in nature, this would have been an appropriate display of gratitude and Padme herself should have had it done!

    I don't think Obi-Wan was ready or even wanted a student. I think he needed more time on his own without the burden of responsibility of a student. Qui Gon. Qui Gon Jinn, had he lived, I think would have shown young Anakin the way. Qui Gon was different too. For whatever reason (I believe it was simply that he wasn't a blind tool like the rest of the jedi) he saw past the Jedi's idea of RIGHT to what was truly right. There was instant connections with Anakin and Qui Gon. As far as I could see, he actually cared for the boy, he just never got the chance to fully show it, but it was there. Obi Wan really had to fair choice in the matter. But hey, nobody is perfect and Obi Wan is no exception. I mean not only was Anakin far from your "normal" padawan, he was "damaged goods" from the start. How could anyone expect a Padawan (theoretically) to teach a special needs padawan?!? No, the only one who was up to the task was Qui Gon. He was the only one that may have shown Anakin the right path and once he was gone, it was a forgone conclusion that Vader was coming. \m/

      Yoda might have been able to do better with Anakin, but even he would have struggled as he was so old and tradition bound. That said his experience and wisdom might have helped in places where Obi Wan struggled due to lack of experience and perhaps confusing the master - apprentice relationship with friendship to much. Part of the problem with Anakin is you needed a very strong master in the force to guide him, but none of those masters stepped up after Qui Gon's death (They all pretty much failed the boy with indifference or hostility), when they likely should have as a nine year old with lots of emotional baggage was beyond Obi Wan's tutelage at that time and Qui Gon should have seen that and not bound Obi Wan to act as master to Anakin.

      That's politics. Both are slated to fail. The Council wants to see them fail! A rigid organisation can't tolerate any deviance. Such behaviour must be portrayed to fail in the end so as to be an example to others. But the Clone War happened. Instead of being designed to fail, the Chosen One was elevated to hero status among his peers, much to the chagrin of the Council. Their despise towards him could be seen when he was denied by the Council to be a Master. Anakin is a very patient and committed fella I might say. I would have left the Order if I were him. Sometimes you've to let go of the sense of duty to save everyone in order to prevent you from descending into the darkest place. It's human nature to do stupid things that land them in hot lava.

      While Qui Gon was definitely the best choice to train Anakin I believe there were a couple others who could have pulled it off. Plo Kloon being the one that comes foremost to my mind. His actions during the Clone Wars, showing compassion to even the loveliest. His wisdom and patients. And his willingness to think outside the box when it came to the Force (he developed Force Judgement, the Light Side variant of Force Lightning after all) would have made him a great father figure for Anakin. Which is EXACTLY what Anakin needed most. While Obi-Wan certainly loved Anakin and did his best to teach him, the last words he spoke to him on Mustafar show exactly why he failed, "You were my Brother Anakin..." He treated Anakin like a younger brother and behaved kike an older sibling not a father.
      TL/DR: Anakin needed a father not a brother. Plo Kloon and a handful of others could have been that. Obi-Wan could not and was not.

      honestly, after qui gon died, even though Obi-wan promised to train anakin, i agree that Obi-wan wasnt ready for a padawan at the time. Though i wouldn't have thought yoda for Anakin, seeing as yoda was actively against anakin joining in the first place, though maybe not as much as Windu. but I think Plo Koon would've made a wonderful temporary Master for Anakin, while Obi-wan sorted his new knighthood out, and talked with Yoda about the trials of being a Master. Even during an apprenticeship to another master, Obi-wan and Anakin could still maintain a "he's my brother" relationship, as Obi-wan figures out how to best be a Master to him.

People point out that had Quigon not died he'd have mentored Anakin, who probably wouldn't have fallen to the darkside then. Quigon had a green lightsaber and Obiwan had a blue one. Luke wielding a blue lightsaber and following Obiwan's example and past leads him towards destruction. my thought is that obi wan is somewhat learning anakin's need for love and connection, (especially connecting to leia in talking about his super faint memories of his mom, dad, and maybe a baby brother), but he probably can't or won't understand because he didn't understand in the OG trilogy. or at least, he didn't portray an understanding of those needs to Luke and the audience in episode 4

  • @zacharyclapp1072
    @zacharyclapp1072 Před rokem +5

    It would have been nice, but wouldn't have matched the character of someone who was established as having trained a young man into an ignorant weapon to kill his own father. Obi-wan needed to maintain a course of character that culminated in a person who uses "a certain point of view" as a justification, that he actually believes, for his actions. Never forget that Obi-wan was relatively the same character even up to Return of the Jedi, so anything that deviates from that (even as badass as it would be) would create problems that would leave the character as patchy by the end.

    After listening I agree with your points. More than anyone Obi-Wan was in the best position to be emotionally there for Anakin. Honestly, just having him reveal his knowledge of Anakin and Padme's relationship, and being positive of it, might have made things much more different.
    That said all of this also applies to the other Jedi. Their insistence towards detachment from emotions and connections really hurt them. It made them unable to comprehend what was happening around them.
    Lacking emotional connections with other groups allowed them to fully delve into the Jedi Code, but it also eliminated the perspectives they would have gotten had they lived normal lives.
    What it means to go hungry. What it means to work in a company that does not have the people's interest at heart as you see your co-workers mistreated. What it means to feel abandoned by political leaders as they say you matter, but don't enact change when you need it. What it means to fall in love, start a family, and figure out how to be a good spouse and parent. What it means to fall in love, struggle through a relationship that's not working out, face the pain of a break up, but then move on and eventually find someone. And so on.
    The Jedi Order may not operate on things, but the rest of the galaxy does. How can one help the people, and bring them to harmony, if one doesn't understand them?

    • @SuperGamefreak18
      @SuperGamefreak18 Před rokem +5

      I think the Jedi Code biggest flaw, is more the execution, the true purpose of the code is to be non-bias, the detachment from emotions isn't to be void of them but to have full control of them and not allow them to take over. Though the jedi order constantly fail at that, as they went dogmatic and basically weaken their overall connection to the light side of the force. Plo Koon and Kit Fisto in the clone wars show are easy examples of what I think the code is SUPPOSED to mean, but everyone has their own interpretations of meaning of the code.

    • @jmwilliamsart
      @jmwilliamsart Před rokem +3

      @@SuperGamefreak18 I agree, I believe that masters Plo Koon and Kit Fisto showed the true meaning of what the Jedi code should be. • @SuperGamefreak18
      @SuperGamefreak18 Před rokem +2

      @@jmwilliamsart I also like to think that Yoda probably understood the code very well but his age, the long peace and the shadow in the force blinded him to the steps he was making until it was far too late. Palpatine gained the Trust the friendship and more importantly the loyalty of Anakin, since childhood, in the Novel of RotS 2005, Obi-Wan states that "For Anakin, there is nothing more important than friendship. He is the most loyal man I have ever met- Loyal beyond reason, in fact despite all I have ever tried to teach him about sacrifice that are the heart of being a Jedi he. . . .he will never, I think, truly understand".
    He looked at Yoda. " Master Yoda, you and I have been close since I was a boy. An infant. Yet if ending this war one week sooner-one day sooner-were to requiere that I sacrifice your life, you know I would."
    "As You should" Yoda said. "As I would yours, young Obi-Wan. As any Jedi would any other in the cause of peace."

    Honestly, there were so many ways Jedi and especially Obi Wan could have helped Anakin. Obi Wan considered Anakin as a brother but Anakin didn’t fully get that brotherly love/support that he should have gotten from Obi Wan because then he could have told Obi Wan about his fears of losing Padme. To me Anakin is such a tragic character who deserved more then he got. Also, I agree with everything you have said Alan and honestly I think you said it best. I did forget to mention that it didn’t help that the Jedi council had made Anakin question their choices on several occasions, for example kicking Ashoka out of the Jedi order before a proper investigation took place, also if Obi Wan told Anakin his plan of catching Cad Bane and not faking his death then Anakin wouldn’t have felt shunned/betrayed by the person who was a brother to him.
    There are just so many other examples where the Jedi order/council not only fail Anakin and fail the people but they make Anakin lose faith in them. Anakin is definitely one of my favorite characters in the Star Wars franchise and I truly think that if the Jedi were a bit more empathetic and gave more support/care to Anakin then he wouldn’t have turned to palps who also used him just like the Jedi did (imo), but then we wouldn’t have gotten Darth Vader one of the best villains in history (again my opinion). Please do let me know if there are other examples of where Anakin loses faith in the Jedi, lets start a friendly and nonjudgmental conversation😇.

    Anakin Skywalker had the makings of being a great Jedi. Not just because he had a good nature, but he cared about others. He does have a very dark side that feeds his anger aggressiveness and reckless. Obi-Wan was sadly not up to the task to help Anakin over come his dark side, which eventually lead to Palpatine influencing him and taking advantage of the Jedi's teachings to flip Anakin to the Dark Side.
    Again Anakin had the potential of being a great Jedi Master but was unable to contain his Dark Side and due to Obi-Wan treating him like a normal padwan and Palpatine influencing him. It was a matter of time before Anakin flipped.

    As a counsellor (Putting my professional hat on) I'll start off with "Systems fail when they do not tap into the needs of their clients" Here we have a boy who was basically born into slavery, punishments were not regulated or limited and that a slave's life was cheap. Being a child he had some questionable adult figures that took advantage of his unique abilities and often placed him in very risky and dangerous situations (Watto and Pod Racing) the kid had a traumatic beginning to his life. His only safety came from his mother and even she was beheld to being submissive. This is where I might get a bit of argument. Through this traumatic childhood Anakin can be observed as developing Borderline Personality Disorder. He has difficulty controlling anger, stress-related breaks (fear of losing his mother and when he did, he took out an entire Tuscan tribe; and not just the men but the women and the children!) hence his obsession with abandonment, Patterns of intense and unstable interpersonal relationships and going from extremes of ideation and devaluation; Watch how he sees Padme "Are you an Angel?" then courts Padme and then later compare that to when he force chokes her with no regard of her pregnancy. How he was easily manipulated by Palpatine just because he was shown some trust and how palatine played into his self worth. Borderline Personality Disorder can show the symptom of "You are a friend and I love you but if you cross me I'll destroy you" It's not only the Sith that deal in absolutes! As you pointed out, the Jedi did not handle his attachment issues, I wouldn't even say well, they full on neglected it due to their rigid teachings. Dooku bested Anakin and he wanted to make him pay, he made him not look like the "Chosen one", which is why it was easy for Palpatine to get him to lob his head off. This led Anakin down the path where he took out the jedi temple "Tuscan Raider style". As the years went on after he became Darth Vader the gloves were off for a while, Snapping necks left right and centre if anyone failed him for the last time. He focussed his attachment from being loved to being feared and he hated the Emperor most of all. Luke showed him an ounce of kindness and being a much older Anakin, he had begun to learn how lonely his life was again plus how much he really hated Palpatine. Anakin needed more help with his emotional regulation, treatment can take years but they handed him a lightsaber and he became a Padawan groomed to be a Knight. This dude really needed to work with plants or healing where gratitude from patients could have eased his attachment and feelings of self-worth. If Anakin was the one to bring "Balance" to the force why was he put into a position that would bring much of anything by conflict? The Jedi System failed him by missing or flat out neglecting the signs of his imbalance. One can't provide balance to others if they themselves need help. If you got this far in my comment; thank you for reading my Ted Talk 😜

    @lerneanlion Před rokem +2

    I always wondered why the Jedi do not free Shmi but now that I found the answer, I am horrified! It's their way of upholding equality! I know equality is important but I guess that if peace can be used as an excuse to do bad things, so does equality. If the Jedi freed one slave, the peoples may asked why are they freeing just one? Why just this one? Why not the others? And if they answered that it is because she is the Mother of the Chosen One, that will pissed basically everyone who heard that a lot because Jedi are supposed to be keepers of peace and equality. So if they played favoratism because Anakin is the Chosen One, they may save Anakin from falling to the Dark Side. But Palpatine might gain an army of Dark Acolytes with great hatred towards Anakin and the other Jedi who stand by him like Obi-wan and Ahsoka. So now just imagine this scenario. An army of Sith Assassins and Sith Warriors in services of Count Dooku and Darth Sidious during the time of Clones Wars and the reign of the Galactic Empire.

    The mistake Disney has been making is taking on board the wrong criticism,
    It's understandable though, with the internet and millions of opinions, it can be difficult to know which ones are the best for the franchise,
    The issue is most likely where they are looking, probably places like twitter,
    I personally feel for Disney to be successful with Star Wars they should take a look at channels such as Generation Tech, Star Wars theory and a couple of the other top channels,
    I'd even suggest they consulted with one another.
    There's several reasons for this, I'll note 5 although there's many more.
    1: These creators have a love for Star Wars.
    2: They have a ton of Knowledge on both Canon and Legends.
    3: Have written their own ideas/theories/stories.
    4: They understand the characters, their motives, behaviors and relationships.

The problem was Obi-Wan offered a very grounded, realistic kind of love. Relationships are messy...because as much as we love others we all have our own shortcomings and our own selfish needs to take care of. Palpatine, on the other hand, offered Anakin something that wasn't real but was what Anakin longed for. He preyed on his pride and greed.

    I've always though the notion of having np parents and no attachments was dumb. Every child needs good parents for emotional stability.

    Maybe dolphins are like anakin, they just need better guidance from humanity and not to be judged on the past but nurtured into a better future

    I honestly think the flashback duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin happened chronologically just before the scene where Anakin is complaining to Padme about Obi-Wan holding him back. Sadly, I think Anakin was doomed from the moment the Jedi didn’t alter how they dealt with Anakin to account for his age/background/pre-existing trauma. He needed a gentle hand and guidance, not to be forced into a mould.
