    Here’s a pro-tip from someone from Wyoming. If you’re driving through Wyoming to go to Mount Rushmore anyway, why not take a little extra time and drive on up to Devil’s Tower in Wyoming. It’s an incredible thing to see, but not something you would typically plan a whole trip to visit. Many of you may remember the movie, Close Encounters. It was filmed at Devil’s Tower. While it may be in the middle of nowhere, it’s truly a natural wonder.

    Don't go to Rushmore during the first two weeks of August, unless you don't mind multiple thousands of extra people from the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Do drive the Needles Hwy (87) and Iron Mtn Road loop (16A through Custer State Park) if you want some amazing drive/wildlife-views after leaving Rushmore. My absolute favorite area of the USA.

    I don't know if there's a word for it, but there's this overwhelming emotion I get when there's something I've seen a million times in movies and television and suddenly I see it in real life. It honestly nearly brings me to tears. I first felt it when I was in a car driving into Washington DC and spotted the Capitol dome for the first time. I've since experienced it in Paris, both with Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower, on the one non-cloudy day when I was in Japan and could see Mt. Fuji, and yes, driving around the bend when you can first spot Mount Rushmore.

    Here's my tip for someone looking forward to Mt Rushmore.
    Don't expect much. Sorry to say.
    Movies like National Treasure made it looked all super big and epic and all... but dont expect it to be that epic like in the movies.
    If you're a gift shopper, make sure you carry a lot of disposable cash. They have a lot of cool stuff in there! But it is pricey.
    Be nice and courteous. You're not the only one from out of state there, There's hundreds of people there at any given time.
    There's also a drive through zoo nearby as well. Make sure to check that out!
    I also really liked the icecream they offered over at the cafeteria! Lol.

    Heres a Dont. Dont go to Mt Rushmore unless its on the way to another destination. So underwhelming and I spent a whole 15 minutes there. (I only went there because it was only 20 minutes out of the way)

    Odds are you can carry your weapon if it's legal however even if it is you're not supposed to go inside a federal building so basically keep that on the down low

      It's legal to carry in the park. Buildings will have signs on the door if guns aren't permitted. Just stay out of posted buildings and you'll be fine.

    Do you have a filming permit? Your a professional film maker. Fines could come.

    • @backcountry164
      @backcountry164 Před 3 lety +2

      You don't need a permit to film at Mt Rushmore unless you are profiting directly from the video such as selling it or licensing the rights. Profits from ad revenue is not considered commercial use by the NPS. The only exception would be if you were requesting special access or would in some other way be imposing some cost to the park.

      I was there three weeks ago and most people were. The gift shop they were mandatory. We went after to the town of Keystone and not so much there. Mainly the tourists like us and we were laughed at by one punk group of locals. Overall people are super nice though.
