Even though it’s dull, we’d all watch it over All Engines Go.
I mean at least it’s Classic/Hit Thomas and Friends. Thomas and Friends beyond 2008 was a failure.
calling all engines go
"Would you rather watch a boring baby show, or a baby show that makes you wanna die?"
I could get through an episode of AEG, I don’t think I could get through Calling All Engines
@@ethantreadway9478 What about the Brenaissance?
I'd say the only good things about this movie are how it handled the "Steamies" vs Diesels conflict a lot better than in later seasons and movies, and the scenes where the bridge collapse and the "Steamies" and Diesels fight each other. That was clear proof that the crew were having fun torturing their own models.
17:44 FINALLY, someone said it.
Calling All Engines and All Engines Go’s titles are the exact same thing. Say that all the characters are there, and yet, over half of the cast is missing. (I mean I get why they couldn’t have all of the characters in a short film like CAE but it’s clearly not all engines.)
10:30 I actually didn't know the windmill scene existed, but I will say that it would have made the storm aftermath sequence so much stronger. Great job on this!
That reminds me of when The Simpsons did their first episode after the movie, and the opening credits featured a damaged Springfield. Imagine if they did that for the first T&F episode after Calling All Engines, where in the opening credits, Thomas goes past the windmill while it's being repaired after the storm.
@@Gondarth consistency
Hi Duck! I agree. It would've been great in the "film" and I didn't know it existed either
Though I am not too surprised Michael Brandon did not get to narrate that part. Probably HiT did not have enough time to count it as a deleted scene for the US just like the other two scenes for the UK DVD. If anything, I really do not get why that deleted scene was not dubbed. Maybe kids or parents from the US would not like it if they see a destroyed windmill onscreen. Kind of understandable? But I remember watching that deleted scene on CZcams as a kid, and even I did not act like a major wuss about it.
I imagined the scene with a low pitch opening credits theme
One of the learning segments, the one where you have to “help” Thomas give Diesel the wrong flatbed, actually progresses the story.
_WHY?!_
12:45: There was also a deleted scene of Thomas resting at a signal while pushing the load here, and Arry and Bert tease him about being tired and needing a diesel to help. Would've been a lot better than a learning segment if you ask me.
I was about four years old when this came out. I do still enjoy it. I just think the learning segments are the worst thing about it. If you take them out, it'd still be a decent 45-50 minute special
Thankfully there are A LOT of Fan Edits that do remove the Learning Segments. So thank god for that.
I was so used to the classic series, I remember being bored with the learning segments.
I fully agree
Watching this review made me realize, the best scenes in the movie (the dreams of what would happen to the engines without the railway, and the Lady - Rusty scene) are the ones that aren't actually real. I guess that goes to show how boring the special is when the dream scenes are the most interesting ones.
Then why not Elmo's World: The Street we Live on? at least it's not boring like CAE is plus it keeps you interested (Sorta). But if you are wondering I mention I did a comment about it if you want to see it for yourself along the hate that Elmo has gotten over the years.
@@victorgaminglounge3967 Elmo is alright not good just alright
@@supermariofan1156 Thank you for sharing your opinion.
Lady from Thomas and the Magic Railroad and Rusty from the fifth series episode Rusty and the Boulder
6:57 This is unbelievably one of the funniest edits I've seen. 😅
Where is that from?
What does it say?
You said "basically reintroduce Emily" which is almost true, in a way! Seasons 8 - 12 all had the characters being reintroduced every single episode so, yeah Emily was reintroduced
Who else thinks that Calling All Engines feels more like an episode than a film? I remember this episode and when I was younger, I thought of this as an episode and it feels like an episode to me to this day. Normal episode intro, music that is the same style as the music of the episodes, same special fx as the episodes, learning segments, etc. This could fit into a TTTE marathon and people would not notice that it is a film unless they check the guide.
It’s an extended TV special
It feels like an extended episode
@@fanofeverything30465 Yeah. It's basically a worsened equivalent of Truth or Square from SpongeBob.
Yeah, CAE does feel like a glorified special.
the learning sequence are essentially telling the kids watching to cause the conflict. So basically it's the kids' fault that the engines are fighting
So they do impact the story, Right? 6:08
Kids are assholes. I’m sure they would have loved to start conflict
The kids are going to be feeling happy
I can never tell if this move is bad or not. It just is the most soft, basic, friendly movie you could ever make. It’s probably the weirdest Thomas film to talk about because it never is really bad (not including the leading segments.) but not even really worth saying anything good about.
These reviews are so well put together, informative, and funny, like this had me in stitches 🤣, awesome, thumbs up 👍
Loved the ending, it’s so heartwarming and jolly. Hope to see more content soon❤
I remember this movie. I was scared of desil 10 and the nightmare scenes as a little kid but generally entertaining to me as a little kid
Here's an explanation about why they didn't bring back Splatter and Dodge back, It's because in TATMR. They repainted Arry and Bert's model to make them and then they were turned back to Arry and Bert.
Why is Skarloey, Rheneas, Peter Sam and Duncan did not appear in Calling All Engines
The reason why Splatter and Dodge didn’t return was because their roles were cut because of someone and didn’t return from TATMR.
Splodge were repainted arry and bert models. In one moment during the meetup of the steamies and diesels, you can see a small purple blotch on arry.
Looks like Robert Downey Jr has the moves to the song.
I was actually genuinely a little bit shocked when you showed the destroyed windmill scene. Newer seen that one before. And as you said yourself, we have newer seen it in that status before, and it's really shocking (in what the scene is telling to the audience).
I actually agree with them cutting it out. Obviously it's a powerful narrative device, but seeing that scene for the first time sorta made my heart drop, and I can imagine it could've been a bit unsettling for the kids watching, especially the age range this is aimed at.
To note, this is not me saying children should be talked down to. I just think that the windmill scene sorta clashed with the tone of the rest of the movie and thus would've felt more jarring. This is different than the dragon float in Thomas and the Chinese dragon, for example, which has sort of a creepy vibe to the entire episode.
Angelis is definitely a real trooper for narrating the show during one of its worst eras
Michael Angelis is my top narrator from season 6 up to season 16
Brandon too because of the various voices and trying to perform on some high energy so the children cant fall asleep
TWO of its worst era’s
The HIT and Miller era absolutely suck
I agree
This review was actually really good. You are right and you do have a few good points. To me, Calling all Engines is nostalgic, but it’s kind of a mixed bag, you’ll get some good or bad stuff with it. The learning segments are pointless and should've been added as bonus features like The Great Discovery. If they kept the deleted scene with the windmill and the dream song then they definitely would’ve taken advantage of the runtime. And Jakey was right, if Britt and David, heck if Andrew Brenner wrote this special it would’ve been better and would’ve been a great substitute for Magic Railroad. If this movie was consistent with the Steamies vs Diesels trope and stuck with it to where all Steamies and Diesels are nice to each other, then it would’ve been decent. But that’s the problem, none of the character arcs stick. All in all, Calling all Engines is a mixed bag. You’ll get some good stuff, but you’ll also get some bad stuff as well. This could be enjoyed on a toddler level, but not on a teenager or adult level. It’s not terrible by any means and it’s definitely not the best, it’s just mediocre. I can’t wait till you get to The Great Discovery, to me, it’s the better model series special, despite it being written by Sharon Miller, but it’s still a fun watch and has some unique and fast paced scenes, but I shouldn’t say too much about it, you just need to rewatch it. But, have a happy new year and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2022.
Well, the rivalry is a great part of the show so it's fine in the film. Also, evil is part of Diesel 10's character as a villain which should be kept in the TV show' canon regardless of Magic Railroad non canon. At least the film shows how Emily becomes part of the Steam Team and lives at Tidmouth Sheds. Even if Britt, Andrew and David wrote Calling All Engines, they would still created Diesel 10 to be a evil diesel villain with plans to take over Sodor and get rid of steam engines whom he loathes.
@@DavidBContentExtravaganza3967 Yeah true. I know they would keep Diesel 10 as a villain because he's supposed to be intimidating. Yeah, Calling All Engines is kinda fun to watch, but it's fun to also make fun of it because there could be many things they could've improved on. Yeah, seeing the rivalry between the steamies and the diesels is fun, but nowadays it's getting clique and overused. But bottom line, Calling All Engines is a fun watch, but it's not the strongest special and the characters or both Michaels couldn't save it. But it's an ok movie and has a good moral. Overall, it gets a C-.
@@jordenfilmz it just goes to show when the fight scenes and the dream scenes are the best ones
@@supermariofan1156 yeah, the fight scenes were very fast paced, while the dreams showed the kind of crisis's the engines could get themselves into if no vacationers come to Sodor. Those were the best parts of the special.
Am I the only one who actually enjoys Calling All Engines as an adult
I remember being a little impatient with the learning segments, because I instantly knew the right answer lol. I couldn’t really stand it.
The learning segments were a good addition to educate kids on the spectrum, myself included. As many of the Thomas Fandom is on the spectrum.
Even though I'm on y
The spectrum I kinda am not a fan of them

18:50 Well, then again, this film was made by the same company who owned Bob the Builder.

13:44 Percy has no face
This is a childhood goldmine for me, haven't watched it since to keep that nostalgia
If a supercut exists that omits the learning segments and some of the songs, I’d love to see it
I have a funny memory of this film. As a kid I found Diesel 10 really creepy due to memories of Magic Railroad on TV so I never watched this movie despite having it on DVD. When I finally watched the film, I was surprised that Diesel 10 wasn’t as creepy so that meant that I then watched it all the time. Looking back, it’s not great
The windmill was a god... Reverted to ruble, that's an amazing scene
I'll give the film this. Watching this special in parts, was my first ever use of youtube back in the mid 2000s.
10:31 This scene is brilliant. I think it also fits with the current state of the Thomas franchise now. The windmill is broke. It’s fixable, but it’s going to take a real effort to do it. I don’t think Mattel really cares for it that much to repair. So it will likely stay this way. And they will not make a decent profit off it ever again.
In my mindset, you're not supposed to actually know you're watching a movie until the intro finishes..
Don't worry about Emily's persona, it's just HiT's way of accurately portraying the average persona 6-13 yr old girls left to their own entertainment bc they're second place on the list of most popular girls..
Wait Emily is a Stirling Singl-
This review was greatly written and was a great summary of the film. Well done.

The NWR having a a civil war? Seems normal to me
I kinda liked calling all engines because the movie had Derek my favorite character that hasn’t been seen since season 5
Thomas cross eyed in the thumbnail😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
He really got the best sonic song as the end credits
I loved those segments when I was younger

Calling all Engines... it exists... and that's about it.
What why are you here
Elmo's World: The Street We Live On...it exists... to cash in on Elmo's Popularity.... and that's about it.
If you wanna know why I mention it James you should the comment that I posted about it alongside with the hate that Elmo has gotten over the years on Sesame Street.
@@victorgaminglounge3967 what
@@TheTimurdempire Facepalm. Let me explain it. Both Elmo's World: The Street We Live on and Calling All Engines were both specials that celebrated their respective franchises anniversaries. The former to celebrate Sesame Street's 35th Anniversary and the latter to celebrate Thomas' 60th Anniversary. Both of them were of course really poor attempts at celebrating their respective franchises anniversaries HOWEVER the former special celebrates Sesame Street's anniversary more than the latter special did for Thomas. Since despite the fact that the former is basically a hour long Elmo's World episode, it pays more respect to Sesame Street's History than CAE did for Thomas. Since the special adds in Classic moments or sketches from the shows' early years. Alongside it they also add in two timelines in the special that each highlight Sesame Street's BIGGEST events. The first timeline when Elmo and Grover drive a Taxi back in time to a couple of moments from the show's history follow by Another timeline that plays at the end credits in which it's absent in the home video version and so you have to watch the broadcast version to see it for yourself.
Now to the topic that I'm very fascinated to talk about the furry red monster himself Elmo one of Sesame Street's most controversial and Divisive Characters. As you don't know I grew up with Elmo since I was little alongside watching A LOT of the original Elmo's World. However little did I know that the furry red monster himself is one of the most hated, controversial, and most divided Sesame Street Characters in the show's history and I REALLY mean it. Some people absolutely love him (like me) or they absolutely HATE HIM. The reason for the hate against Elmo is because of the exact same reason that both Barney and the Teletubbies for the same reason Overexposure and that all started with the ever so infamous craze in 1996 with a toy called Tickle Me Elmo. Due to the toy becoming a massive Phenomenon it lead to Elmo getting WAY to overexposed, alongside it Elmo got two segments dedicated to him. Elmo's World and Elmo the Musical, along with him getting his own movie, The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. Due to all things I mentioned it caused a lot of people to HATE the furry red monster, not only all of things I mentioned but also he was taking WAY to much screen time from the other characters on Sesame Street and even calling him names like The Little Red Menace and the Scrappy Doo of Sesame Street. Down to the point that some people also went as far as to saying that he killed Sesame Street and even go as far as to say that Elmo Killed any educational values that Sesame Street had. And after learning all of that it really and I mean REALLY broke my heart that a character that I ever loved so dearly when I was a child the most divisive (if not the most hated) character from Sesame Street. Especially how that again he WAS my childhood character alongside Thomas and Bear from Bear in the Big Blue House. I think that just like Hit Entertainment on what they did with Thomas during there time people should MASSIVELY blame Sesame Workshop overexposing Elmo and NOT the character himself because it's Sesame Workshop that should be blame. Seriously if we can blame Hit Entertainment, Mattel and Disney for their Stupid decisions they make then we should blame Sesame Workshop as well since it's THEIR FAULT.
11:24 I think thomas had a humid dream._.
5:15: Probably because their models were just repainted models of Arry and Bert with new faces that were painted back to Arry and Bert for season 6.
5:16 The models never returned from Canada for splatter and dodge after filming TATMAR which is why we never see them again in the model series.
i used to play this movie to help me fall asleep, it was very effective
Very funny review. I remember seeing Calling all engines in my youth, but largely forgot about it (probably because it was so boring and dull as you said).
Thanks for the shoutout to The Polar Express at 0:33. I watched it religiously as a kid at Christmas and it’s still my all time favourite festive film.
The random people dancing to the "Together" song gives me life.
How _this_ movie handled the Steamies V. Diesels conflict better than Day of the *Diesels* is beyond me.
6:57-7:06 The funniest part of the whole review hands down! XD XD
7:29-7:31 A banana meme? XD XD XD
7:38 Well, that's laziness by HIT for you.
6:57 - What does it say?
No idea. XD
It's funny knowing the review is funnier than the original
I *still rather* rewatch this special than BWBA and AEG *ANY* day!!!
Ah yeah the HiT era is still better than BWBA. Misty Island Rescue actually did most things well if you ignore the plot holes and rhyming.
No which is worse out of these two if you could only pick one, BWBA or All Babies Die?
Let me fix this, I mean the special, which is calling all engines.
HOW DARE YOU CALL MY GUILTY PLEASURE DULL?! In all seriousness I can’t wait to watch this video, I do agree that it’s dull but I enjoy it, again, it’s my guilty pleasure lol
6:20 - 6:27
“Merchandising! Where the real money from the movie is made!”
The fight scene and songs are the only reasons I tolerate this special.
7:45 Maybe Rosie wasn’t planned to have a theme to begin with and that music was just played in episodes that had Rosie in them. Do you get what I’m trying to say?
Loved that reference to The Mandalorian.
Im excited about your new video coming out😁
I rewatched it for the first time since about 2011, and my opinion on it hasn't changed. It's still a dull movie, but it still has some good things about it and it does have nostalgia, 3.5/10. 1 point for the Bridge collapsing, 1 point for the Steamies and Diesels conflict being well here, (especially the fight scene, the songs and the working together scene to get the runway and airport completed), 1 point for the Good bonus features on on DVD, half a point for the CAE Engine roll call, the return of Diesels 10, Lady, Derek,, and Rusty's Season 4 Model. Without a doubt, I would rather watch this rather than Misty Island! This is way better than Misty Island!
How is 3.5/10 decent?
I remember I used to put this movie on if I wanted to fall asleep
The Azalea Town theme song in the background 😂😂😂
This was my childhood DVD… child me is crying on the inside lol
Man ending song hits
i remember watching it on tv and not realizing its a movie until like 20 minutes in
The diesels vs steamies conflict was so much more serious up to Thomas And The Magic Railroad. The diesels were murderous and sadistic: Diesel, the diesels on the other railway (British Rail), Class 40, Arry and Bert, Dodge and Splatter and especially Diesel 10. They seriously want to rid the World's railways of the out of date kettles. But from Season 6 onwards they're just portrayed as regular bullies and it just has a more downgraded and dull vibe to it. And I agree with the HiT era as a whole being dull. All of it is still better than BWBA though. But it is still a rough patch. All episodes feel the same. "It was a sunny day on the Island of Sodor and all the engines were working hard.", a character is given a job, screws up three times before realising their mistake, puffs their way through the trees and grass on the railway carved through it, gets their job done in the end and everyone ends up happy. Rinse, repeat, **yawn.**
Compare this to the classic era. "Thomas was waiting at a junction when a bus arrived." "Gordon was feeling grumpy. This was making James cross." "The little engines were busy clearing their railway of leaves and broken branches."
"Diesels never gallabant off to breakfast in stationmaster's houses." "NOOOOooooOOOOO!! I'm asleep!!! And he opened his eyes just to make sure they were still there." "So I did help. But, by accident you might say." "I wonder if Rusty is right. Don't you?"
Look at how creative and different these openings and endings are from each other. A lot of the stories begin right in the middle of the action that will continue throughout the episode and some episodes are cleverly left inconclusive and are very different in tone from one another. We aren't even told if the ghost engine Duncan saw was real or not and it's left for us to decide and a lot of them go much more in depth with different emotions and intentions of the characters than just wanting to be really useful. There are very few if any, times in the HiT era where the whole story evolves around a character plotting revenge on another or where any major worldbuilding is done like Kirkronan station or an engine being rescued from being scrapped by scary diesels. The era feels mostly the same with tone, payoffs and plot. This makes the era a slog to sit through.
I agree. The diesels vs steamies conflict should be back to being serious, even in CGI, regardless of things and never get downgraded again.
@@DavidBContentExtravaganza3967 I noticed how they also didn't make Oliver mention in his CGI return that his escape was from diesels trying to scrap him. He only said that he escaped the scrap yard. I think they were afraid of making the diesels seem like actual villains instead of just bullies.
@@TheBrickGuy7939 Or forgot to have Oliver mention it. The CGI writers should try harder, especially since Diesel 10 is a villain.
@@DavidBContentExtravaganza3967 Yeah he just became a complete whimp as soon as the Fat Controller arrived and it nerfed him so low to the ground.
@@TheBrickGuy7939 In Day of the Diesels. The climax should be a bit better like Diesel 10 angry at The Fat Controller and rebel against his authority with attempt to grab him with Pinchy. Andrew Brenner should have thought of adding seriousness to the CGI series, especially returns it to the conflict.
It Would've Been Better If They Skipped The Braindead Learning Segments.
I agree, CAE is pretty dull, even the engine roll call is so dull to sit through in CAE, I prefer TGD as it was a perfect way to close the model era (even though S12 shouldn’t have existed) as it had zero learning segments and had some pretty good songs especially TYTL as the end credits play which was the first time (I don’t count TATMRR as it’s not canon at all) as every film afterwards had a song playing during the end credits.
Even I thought it was dull when I was young and that hasn’t changed.
Overall, very good points and have a happy Christmas
9:11-9:17 is hilarious
Woolworths... Now that's a blast from the past.
Merry Christmas
when i was younger i watched this and the dream sequence really freaked me out
Aye. As a 7 year old watching that for the first time. I happened to think it was pretty top notch in what it did. Especially how it was able to make me scared of just simply seeing d10. Could mostly because of how I saw him from TATMR but none the less. Loved the models and like an enthusiastic little thomas loving fan does, I raged and raved about it. And I don't regret it.
Same here Diesel 10 Scared me when I first saw him in this special and I saw this special first before I saw Magic Railroad.
I fully agree
Emily doesn’t deserve a berth at Tidmouth sheds
All of The Dreams clips all except (Thomas's dream) scared the living hell out of me as a kid and it still does to this day not to mention the song based on the dreams (except Thomas's dream) also this is George's only appearance in a Movie (well he was suppose to be in Magic Railroad too but his model was never shipped on time, also Splodge did not appear cause there repaints of Arry and Bert, plus while the makers of Magic Railroad were filming the scene where James and Junior encounters diesel 10 at the smelters the model of James fell of the set which is why in the rest of the movie the model has tiny scrapes and looks a bit damaged if you look real closely while watch the rest of the movie)
5:31 In germany we didnt have the learning sessions. Yet they kept them in the german movie dvd and you can bet my confussion when i saw them.
From what I hear they weren’t in Theaters but on DVD. Every other country should have followed your country’s footsteps
I haven't watched this thing in a million years. I remember it having a better plot than Magic Railroad, albeit Diesel 10 not being anywhere near as interesting or entertaining as he was in Magic Railroad. He needed Neil Crone 😃
I also wish he would still refer to his claw as "Pinchy".
@@supermariof0521 Me too, even in CGI and being evil again.
This is the only time there wasn’t a tie-in character in variable levels of quality to sell toys of I’m pretty sure. Although this was sort of an excuse to sell daisy, derek, lady, diesel 10, probably some others again.
My question is why everyone hates the Magic railroad…. It’s literally my favorite Thomas movie…… Ppl hating the movie is like a personality trait at this point
What’s the matter with a little crack in a run-way anyway? The wheels and tires of a plane are normally big enough to just run over it without a problem, right? Or are those of the model plane not to scale and small enough to get stuck in the crack? And even so, it would just fly over the crack and land somewhere else on the runway, right?
The great discovery had no learning though,
11:35 this is my favorite song from calling all engines as well as my favorite from the hit model era (seasons 8-12)
6:57 this part is fucking hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂
What did you make Diesel say when he con-fronted Thomas? The audio in his fast talking was wicked staticky, so I couldn’t understand it. Can you tell me what he said in this video?
In my head cannon magic railroad is one of Thomas’ dreams that he has right before he has the dream with lady and rusty
Just saying but did anyone truly notice rusty’s Bigger face starting s5? Like as a kid, cuz rusty with his s5 face would look so off in Thomas’ dream sequence
the dude u collabed with was more boring and more pointless than the learning segments LMAO
Real smart of you to put this in your playlist before it even aired (sarcasm)
I wonder what Rob the Green Engine will think about this
This movie can be good , if the learning segments was remove , add on the windmill scene and no gonna lie the engine roll call is one of my favorite
Is it bad that as a kid I kind of considered lady to be the thomas equivalent of rapunzel from tangled
I feel like the movie was made without the learning segments, but somebody put them in in the last 5 minutes of making it

I actually like Calling All Engines :)
I would get the Calling All Engines take along pack, wooden railway, books, and Tomy just because they would add more to my collection.
I find it mildly ironic how the diesel and steam engines are helping with the construction of the Sodor Airport: the very thing that would've doomed them if it took place in America.
It could doom them anyway
I when I was five this is my favourite Thomas movie😅😅
calling all engines is our fault because of that one learning segment
the narrator told us to commit an act of tomfoolery, we carried out the plan without thinking, and now everything is ruined
