1:19 Knowing that you own Looney Tunes: Back in Action on Blu-Ray makes me very happy
Great video Sean! As for why the Magic Railroad Blu-ray is region locked when most Blu-ray releases aren't, I haven't the foggiest idea. I don't own much of anything from Shout Factory so I'm unsure if that's standard practice from them. You're 100% correct about picture quality, it's a major difference between Blu-ray and DVD. Your comedic timing always improves with each video, keep it up my British brother!
I actually found out why it doesn’t work but I forgot to mention lol, shout factory don’t have the rights to distribute in the UK at all from what they’ve said via twitter, so I’d have to buy a hacked blu ray (probably 4K at this point) player.
But I really appreciate the… appreciation!
I’m glad people enjoy this style of video with all the technical terms etc (:
@@Thomasfan261 Or you could ask one of your American friends like oh maybe me to send you a ripped digital copy so you could still enjoy the movie in 1080p. Just a suggestion 😉
@@LegoLover117 From what I heard. Shout Factory doesn't appear to have a UK branch. In my opinion, a simple work around, could be that since Warner Bros. owns the home media distribution rights to TATMR in the UK (whereas the US rights belong to Sony), maybe Shout Factory could approach the UK branch of Wanner Bros. and be like "Hey! Can ya put this out in the UK?!".
I think the reason the hype for the TATM Blu Ray went down so quickly was because there was a pandemic and people were so stressed to the point were they weren't hyped anymore.
Well I'm glad I know what Blu-Rays of Thomas & Friends exist now. Great introduction about Blu-Ray and cut aways during the video. Well edited too.
I wish the classic seasons was released on blu ray with all dubs
Sean, say no more. You had me at "We have cookies". It's the good kind too, straight out of Sainsbury's!
See, I get why people like Blu-ray. A lot of people really really want Hi Def quality. People never complained about video quality before Blu-ray, but regardless... I think the problem with Blu-ray is that you require a specific player for the discs, which means spending a fair bit on just a player, never mind the discs.
That being said, I don't really mind the lack of HD quality. I grew up back when DVDs were brand new, and were practically witchcraft because of the technology (smaller laserdiscs!), so the lack of high definition never bothered me as long as the movie entertains me. I prefer convenience over fancy design in this case... I don't think I owned a Blu-ray until 2015, when I bought the 25th anniversary of Back to the Future... The one show that deserves a Blu-Ray release that I will pick up in 2.8 seconds? Ed, Edd n Eddy.
As for Magic Railroad, there was hype for the Blu-ray release because they thought it would be that godforsaken original cut. I remember that much... If the movie lost hype, it'll be when the fans discovered it was only the theatrical cut.
Yeah…I was disappointed when the original cut was only in the bonus features and It wasn’t even reconstructed with the other scenes in the movie it was literally just the deleted scenes and nothing else. The picture of the blu-ray did not look that good at all. It looked like the DVD as someone else pointed out. That movie deserves a better blu-ray release. No matter how bad it might be
8:25 (geek talking here)
Technically it CAN qualify for a Blu-Ray release. It won’t look as good but it can still be upscaled a bit. I say that because the older episodes of Doctor Who were shot in SD yet it’s been getting Blu-Ray releases (and it still does look quite good - I certainly noticed a difference)
Upscaling won't do anything. It was shot in 480i, meaning the highest resolution is 480i.
Love how you're starting to do more of a comedic take on these. Oh, by the way, you seem jealous of us for getting all these films on Blu-ray, but where you are, at least every season has a DVD release.
ikr WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY I BOUGH THE COMPLETE SERES 16 AND IT WAS REGION LOCKED >O(
This is my favorite video so far. The comedy approach to it was amazing and I hope you do more comical videos
1:50 why does that animation look so good?
I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but the earlier seasons were shot 35mm film so they can be in HD (maybe even 8k).
Interestingly, I did a mock-up of what a TATMR Blu-ray release cover would’ve looked like if it had been done by Arrow Video instead of Shout Factory. Arrow is a UK distribution company that restores and releases cult films on Blu-ray in both PAL and NTSC region formats, as they also have a US division.
You is a mood.
In all seriously, great video. I did learn things about Blu-ray as I never used it as a I thought it was a different thing like VHS. Good job on being informative and funny.
I loved this! I am interested in this sort of stuff! I like to think the reason HOTR was never released on blu-ray was because of the animation.
Shining Time Station DESERVES a DVD! and if they get a Blu-Ray i'll happily buy a Blu-Ray player in order to watch it!
9:54: “Also, where’s my Thomas and the Magic Railroad 4K?”
It's really weird that the Big World! Big Adventures! German blu-ray release has the English US dub instead of the UK dub, even though it's a region 2 blu-ray.
Great video! Your videos keep on getting better and better. You’ve been one of the main Thomas content creators I’ve watched since I got back into the the franchise, and you’ve inspired me to get some Thomas DVDs again (mainly the full season dvds and the specials).
I know this isn’t exactly related to the main subject of the video, but I remember getting a box set about 7 years ago that had Misty Island Rescue, Day of the Diesels, Blue Mountain Mystery and King of the Railway. I believe it also had a full version of that nice art on the King of the Railway blu-ray. Do you know anything about it? I tried looking on the internet but I couldn’t find any info.
Another banger video Sean!
Shame Day of the Diesels is the only one to get a Blu-ray release in the UK.
Man's drinking a can of Stella when watching Thomas and the magic railroad. Much respect 👌
9:04 YES! Fireman Sam Series 5 needs a Blu-ray Release. I want to watch it in HD so badly. I can only watch it in 480p. Also speaking of Calling All Engines, they could upscale it into HD.
That's not how it works. Calling All Engines was shot in SD digitally, meaning it can't be upscaled to true HD.
@@joshproductions07 It's different with 35mm. 35 mm can be upscaled to clear 4k since picture and color blends together.
I've never really collected the Blu-ray's, but I thought they were a cool idea
Awesome Video Sean ! I Really Love Blu ray Discs ! My Favorite Blu ray Is Danganronpa & Kino s Journey & Hyouka !
You deserve so much more recognition
Ideal scenario:
1.Seasons 1-7, Tugs, Magic Railroad, and Jack and the Pack complete season sets on 4K-BD (shot on 35mm film).
2.Seasons 8-10 and Calling All Engines complete season sets on SD-BD (shot on SD digital cameras).
3.Seasons 11-24 and all specials from The Great Discovery onwards on BD (shot on HD cameras and animated in HD).
This is a good video. It perfectly explains everything that is touched on in the video.
This video is so unapologetically british, I love it
When you said there were theatres showing SLOTLT in 2020, I was like *”how come I didn’t know about that, god dammit”*
Excellent, hilarious video. I learnt alot!
Nice video Thomasfan261
Good video, Sean!
When he mentions all the British products from tesco and b and m it is like so relatable because I’m in the uk and see those shops and items everywhere
I love these videos!
I wish they released Thomas journey beyond sodor on Blu Ray in the UK
Didn't know Thomas movies gets Blue Ray.
im a huge nerd for this kinda stuff, media, history, films, thomas, and so this video is just everything in one place, excellent, 10/10
they should make a blu ray of new friends for thomas
Amazing!
Actually the BWBA Movie made a Blue Ray in the USA back in 2019 so lets say it Germany wasn't the only one who made it
You got a new sub
Thomas and the magic railroad being the only one that is region locked is odd but at least I have a region free player
OH MY GOD
I HAVE THE CANCELLED HOTR BLU RAY
I WATCHED IT YESTERDAY AND DIDNT REALISE
I JUST GOTTA FIND WHERE I PUT THE DISC YAY
I'm just still waiting for a complete series HD Restored Sonic SATAM Release with all the episodes 😂
I’m curious, is the US dub on the BWBA German Blu-Ray low pitched? That's a problem with the US DVD.
Nice video!
I am thankful that we brits had it lucky with 576p/i 25/50. Because in comparison. Its closer to what some the sources are.
For some reason I had the Thomas the the magic railroad I did not get to see the hole movie and didn't you get the DVD with the Blu Ray tatmr
So, in summary, here are the following Blu-ray DVD releases:
Thomas & the Magic Railroad (Region Locked)
Misty Island Rescue
Day of the Diesels (Edit: UK's only Blu-ray release)
Blue Mountain Mystery
King of the Railway
Tale of the Brave
Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure
The Great Race
Big World, Big Adventures (German Release)
Percy's Parcel (Chinese Release)
Do correct me if anything is incorrect.
The only UK blu ray is Day of the diesels, all of the other thomas films listed there bar BWBA are essentially US exclusive
I what a 4K release of the classic seasons after I just got my 4k blu ray player
When Thomas the Tank Engine was owned by Gullaine, things were a lot better back then; Hit Entertainment did alright with the show, but I think Amblin Entertainment would’ve done a whole lot better than Mattel. It was cool seeing some of the Thomas Blu-Rays having the Universal Logo on it, and it would’ve been extremely cool to see the Amblin Entertainment ( E.T. and Elliot Bike Logo ) on it.
I thought when the DVD said it was Region locked, that the video would go into a VPN sponsor ship, ngl I thought I would hear, "that's why we are sponsor by nord VPN"
Question? Isn't there an Australian Blu-Ray for Day of the Diesels & Misty Island?
Because Thomas is the best thing to ever exist
Good video
My tale of the brave DVD is screwed so this was good news.
Is that the credits music from Space Jam?
I Think Blu rays Was so Good When it Comes to Collect Blu Rays & Dvds It was so Perfect & Good as a Dvd Fan Or a Blu ray Fan
There Is 1Cartoon Must Deserves a Blu ray Is The Fairly OddParents Wishology ! & Also Thomas & Friends Complete Series 1 - 7 Needs to have a Blu ray !
I Have A Question Sean!
What's The Name Of The Sad Song That Plays On The Minute 5:52 ?
CZcams Films & TV has the British dubs in SD and HD.
Really enjoyed this! Genuinely had no idea most of them, bar Magic Railroad, were region free. I’m definitely gonna spend my money on SLOTLT!
Also, it’s cool to see another Thomas & Friends fan who’s also a big Looney Tunes fan. I adore both equally, and I’d love to see a classic series Blu-Ray release, similar to the Platinum Collection. If only. 😅😂
Hey, does the Big World Big Adventures German Blu-Ray have a language option with English audio?
Yes, it has an option to play it in English and it's not region locked. It is the US dub though.
0:39 no harm in Asking which Town/City has the best TESCO express?
I have a tatmr dvd and it doesn’t work
I didnt even know theyre were thomas dvds edit* Blue Rays
who in my country had the idea to make a bwba release. they didnt even translate any episode from S21
So all the theatrical Thomas films got Blu-rays- journey beyond and big world and hiro of the rals
I have a question how come shout factory didn’t announce the complete classic collection of Thomas on blu ray yet
I’m sure that set could give Thomas a proper physical media release
At least we got the early years in the us and some of the volumes gave us a good chunk of the series
They may not have had the rights to the TV show. Mattel may own the show, but Magic Railroad is owned by Sony, who Shout probably had to approach for approval when it comes to a Blu-ray release, which couldn't have been cheap, considering Sony also owns the Blu-ray format...
they'd probably have to rescan the master film/tapes of the classic series to make an actual blu ray quality collection, which is pretty expensive for the amount of sales they'd end up getting these days
Sometimes change is good
That is what was thinking about
21% on Rotten Tomatoes? No, Thomas and the magic railroad deserves way more than this
thank you for the snacks
10:05 end of thomas blu ray talk
I have a valid question: If 480p is quite obviously crap, then where would one rank 720p? Just an observation.
If you have a Xbox it might be able to break the region lock cause I had dvds that were region locked to the UK and I put them in my Xbox and they worked
Here's Hope that future UK BLU-RAYs COULD BE HERO of the RAILS, THE ADVENTURE BEGINS and JOURNEY BEYOND SODOR
as a child myself i hated season 4 becuase of the skybox and PRAYED to season 6
1:00 This statement frustrates me because resolution is probably the least significant factor when it comes to video quality. Bitrate and compression are far bigger factors in video quality. The only reason people think that 480p looks bad is because that's what CZcams want's them to think. CZcams is very biased towards 1080p and 4K when it comes to bitrate, which leaves 480p looking terrible on the platform. However, DVD generally has a high bitrate and is less compressed, which allows a higher quality image that can look just as good as blu-ray.
TL;DR 480p is actually good, and it only gets a bad rap because of how terrible CZcams's compression is.
I've Got The Warner Bros Cardboard Case Release Of The Space Jam 0:11
cool
I don't have a Blu Ray disc player or any Blu Ray discs
The only blue ray thomas I have is Sodors Legend of the Lost Tresure
I'm okay with season 5 being different
This video made me laugh
Are you a Looney Tunes fan because if you are nice to meet another one in the Thomas fandom and I'm glad I'm not the only one
the resone germany has a blu ray bwba is the market for that movie was HUGE but not tha huge but a little big huge and the last german thomas movie before bwba was jbs and it was relead in 2017 and bwba was in 2020 so thats why
0:40 your missing something crucial and that's WALKERS!!!!
I have blue mountain and the great race on blu ray
Where are youuuu btw in your pfp you are missing a frontal wheel on thomas
Any other kids shows besides Thomas you like
Because why not?
CYOAR!
Thomas and friends DVD UK and blu-ray US.
Even though BMM is tied in first place with SLOTLT, it isn’t worth it. Mountains look crapper, the rusted Victor texture looks god awful, etc. It’s only worth to get SLOTLT.
Thomas Seasons 1-24 Should Be On Blu Ray
A true HD remaster or even SOME kind of physical modern re release would be seriously awesome for this franchise
