    It's taken years to perfect our installs, and we'd like to share this knowledge with everyone.
    My name is Brent and I have been an automotive window tinter since 1998 and have been installing paint protection film since 2004. In 1998 I took a 5 day class to learn the basics of window tinting. Then I started tinting cars and learning as I went. In 2004 I bought a roll of paint protection film (clear bra by 3m) and taught myself how to install it. I am now the Owner of ENCORE Window Tinting and Paint Protection Film in Stockton, CA.

      Thank you for the kind words. We I'm going to update this video this week. I changed the soap that I use a couple of weeks ago. I'm not using seventh generation dish soap. So far, it's working great. 👍🏻😊

      are you not using the PremiumShield shampoo anymore? I’ve been playing with it for a few weeks now and have had pretty good results but I use 2.5 ml for 32 oz.
      Have you had any issues with the PS shampoo with different brands of PPF? I normally use PremiumShield film but recently helped out another shop that uses XPEL. It seemed horrible with XPEL Stealth but it could have been conditions in the shop.
      Do you have any idea of how the PS shampoo works with SunTek ultra/high tack?

      I have a new video going up this weekend about our new slip solution. Products and ratios. I'm not sure what happened (maybe my soap got old?), but I couldn't put enough soap in my slip to keep it from instantly tacking. I jumped up to 24ml (from 7-10) per gallon, and it was still sticking. I needed a fix instantly. Called my rep, and he told me about the Seventh generation dish soap you can buy at almost any store. It's been working great.

      @@EncorePPFtint ah. I used to use 7G but, felt like it caused issues with the adhesive. Prior to swapping to PS shampoo, I was using JJ Baby Wash which I liked but I’m always trying new things. I have TONS of the PremiumShield shampoo as my brother is (now) the only PS distributor in the US.

      When my PS soap was working, it worked great with the SunTek ultratack. We I stall both SunTek and PremiumShield. I always use the same slip solution with either film. 👍🏻

    Brent - Great content. I've learned a lot from your vids. How about a vid on tack solution. Some use alcohol while I hear others have switched to just warm water. Would love to hear what you are using and ratios, etc. Thanks.

    • @EncorePPFtint
      @EncorePPFtint  Před rokem

      Please don't use this soap in your mixture of Slip solution. I've changed soaps and the new soap works much better. I'm redoing this video. We switched over to "seventh generation" dish soap. You can find it at almost any grocery store or CVS type store. It works so much better in the heat of summer. Basically the same ratios though. 4-8 ml of soap depending on the heat and time you need to work the film without getting pretacking. I'll add another comment in and hour or two. I've got to open our shop right now. :)

    • @EncorePPFtint
      @EncorePPFtint  Před rokem

      I can make a video on that. Water will normally tack extremely fast. Tack solution will normally let the PPF float a little for positioning. There is not much positioning but more than the water. My tack solution - I start with 70% rubbing alcohol. That gets diluted down to 20% rubbing alcohol to 80% water. Sometimes water works better, and sometimes tack solution works better for tacking things down quickly.

    we have a shop here in NYC We do some ppf work , have a small keg 2.5gal also but feels that is more easier to work with the ppf with pure hot slip, have you tried to maintain the keg with warm water while you're working?

    • @EncorePPFtint
      @EncorePPFtint  Před rokem

      PPF these days contours so well (at least compared to older PPF or 3M) that I haven't used warm slip solution. If I did heat my slip, I would add a little more soap. I don't know of a good way to keep the solutions warm, but I have been thinking about a couple of contraptions that may do the trick (I'm working on it! 😁). On really difficult installations, I use a steamer to soften up the PPF or add hot water to my water bottle sprayer (then spray the outside of the PPF). I use a 3 bottle setup, slip, tac, and water.

    What do you use and how to clean crevices on bumpers before installing?

    • @EncorePPFtint
      @EncorePPFtint  Před rokem

      A pressure washer is the tool for removing contamination from crevasses. After washing the vehicle, we go over every single crevasse inch by inch. We use an inexpensive lower pressure washer (i think 1400psi). Watch my portable wash station video for the tools on that (link below). You don't want too much pressure as that's not good for the paint. High pressure is great for cleaning concrete but not cars. 😁👍🏻

    Do you mix the same exact ratio whether the paint is hydrophobic or not?
    Let's say I polish the paint before PPF application. Do you apply a sealant on the paint for less surface tension and increase soap ratio?

    • @EncorePPFtint
      @EncorePPFtint  Před rokem +2

      We do not do any polishing at our shop. Light surface scratches (swirl marks) from washing and wiping the car down (by the customer) will be hidden by the PPF. If the vehicle has a ceramic coating on it, that will need to be removed before the installation. We also install PPF for body shops after collision repairs. I find that when the paint is new and it has just been cut and buffed, the PPF tacs super fast to the paint. This can cause a lot of distortions in the adhesive and silvering. In cases like this, I will use a lot more soap. Anywhere from 10ml-14ml as needed. 👍🏻

    Hey Brett, I heard we can use Johnson and Johnson , you think the ratio will be the same with baby shampoo? Or do you not recommend using J&J?

    • @EncorePPFtint
      @EncorePPFtint  Před rokem +1

      J&J will be a different ratio. I'm guessing you'll need quite a bit more soap. The soap I use is concentrated. A long time ago, I did use J&J. At some point, I felt that J&J changed something (I could be wrong), and it wasn't working the same for me. At that point, I changed soaps. 🤷🏻‍♂️
      Your other comment is gone. Here is the answer anyway. Window tint solution might kind of work for a PPF with extremely tacky adhisive. The tint solution will be too much soap, and the PPF will have a hard time sticking down (especially in recesses where the film needs to stretch). With all this being said, I will use tint slip solution on really difficult hoods that require a lot of stretch, and it is important I do not get pretacking. The pre tacking will mostly occur on the edges and ridges of the hood.

    Great video, is the filter inside the nozzle not enough? Any good recommendations for a PPF vendor. The distributor I was about to order from for tint has some, but I can't get any reviews on it. I'm a little nervous making that large investment for film I find out is not good.

    • @EncorePPFtint
      @EncorePPFtint  Před rokem +1

      The extra filter is much larger (higher flow volume) and filters out much smaller particles. I'm not sure that we get much for partials in the water, but the extra filter definitely can't hurt. I think that the debris floating around in the air of an installation area is a bigger issue. 👍🏻 Make sure not to overpay for that extra filter! 😁

      There is no benefit unless confusion is a plus. Now you are getting into philosophy, and that's not covered on this channel. 🤣😂I'm not sure my medicine syringe even has Oz on it. 🤔 This is how the measurements were relayed to me when we started with this PPF (I adjusted them from there). 🤷🏻‍♂️ it's 7ml to 4 liters of water. 😁

    Are vans hard to do?

    • @EncorePPFtint
      @EncorePPFtint  Před rokem +1

      Thank you for the questions. It would depend on the van. I would say that most vans would be fairly easy, just like an easy car (like a Honda accord). Panel vans can be a little difficult because the pieces of PPF are so large, and the panels normally have sharp indents. It's not so difficult as it is time-consuming. 👍🏻
