A righteous fellow destroyed that disgusting sculpture. I won’t equate him with Christian martyrs who died for their faith. But he has likely given up some freedom for this deed. Please pray for him.

So I turned off "Safe Search" and ran another search. Was still shown only side views of it. I'm grateful that I didn't have to look at it straight-on, but my point is that it's so grotesque that they won't show it full-on, period!
It was apparently supposed to show Mary giving birth, n@ked from the waist down, knees up & spread.
I'm not even Catholic, and I'm offended that anyone would sculpt that, never mind place it in a Cathedral (or any other Church.)

Father, if you read this, I’m a 60 year old who converted 30 years ago; and into the traditional Catholic Church. I’ve been to the usual Masses before I converted, but the reason why youth and those really serious about their Faith are feeling pulled to the traditional Latin Mass is because it was created and for hundreds of years was, the Mass of all time.
The Church is in crisis, Father. The blasphemous statue of Our Lady is just one more abomination in what has become a sea of them. “Pride” Masses? False ecumenism? Mass said on a surfboard in the shallow waters of a bay? Pachamama?
The traditional celebration sees women modestly dressed and veiled, men in their Sunday best suit and ties. There is silence and reverence. It is the true sacrifice of Calvary which the Faithful, in union with the Priest, offer to God the Father. Recipients kneel at the altar rail and reverently receive the Lord on their tongue.
Is it any wonder people today are clamoring for the traditional Latin Mass?

Thank you, Nell. This is my story, too. I watch the Roman Rite on line, by myself before God, and I am drawn into the reverent silence as the great feast of salvation is prepared and served for those who love our God. It seems the visible church has been given over to the evil one. I pray daily for the church. 😢
I'm 71 and grew up in America with the Latin mass...I don't know Latin, I personally love hearing what the priest says during the consecration part of the mass. Our communion hosts become the Holy Eucharist, the presence of Jesus through the actions and yes the words of the priest...I have personally been graced my God to witness my own Eucharistic miracle where a inlayed pure white dove appeared on my Holy Communion host that I received during mass. I verified with the priest after mass that the communion hosts are all the same; solid wheat colored.....Another miracle I experienced about 10 years ago was actual weight pushing down gently but forcefully on both of my shoulders almost enough to buckle my knees as I STOOD to receive my Holy Communion. Yes, I personally think we should be kneeling to receive Holy Communion if our health allows it. Jim
43 years old converted to Catholic this year. I am the only one in my family. I live in Canada I pray that we can have both species one day again. Communion rails, and some latin and incense in the mass instead of just the vernacular.

When I saw the statue you are referring to, I was sick to my stomach. What a horrible offence against God and offensive to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Yes, it is blasphemous. I could not even fathom placing this statue in church let alone cathedral! What bishop would allow this? May God have mercy on us!
As light passes through glass without harming it, so too did Jesus pass through the womb of Mary without the opening of Mary's womb and without any harm to the physical virginal seal of the Virgin, who was pure and the perfect tabernacle of the unborn Christ.
This most holy truth about the complete virginity of Mary is church teaching. But look how they have been practicing outrageous disrespect for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. They don't believe God is present, and they don't believe in the virginity of Mary. And these people are in charge of how we worship! We have become children of Cain. "As in the times of Noah, so shall it be at the end of the world."

My church is packed. The Saturday morning Mass is so full they had to move it from the every day chapel to the main church. We are NO but our priests are very devout. I pray for priests every day. It’s all we can do.

I've made 12 first Saturdays and will miss this one due to flights and connections. I will be saying as many decades as I can as a tiny offering
As a parent, I resent the hell out of our churches not even being safe spaces. I expect to have to fight the culture out in the world, but to have to fend off my own church is ridiculous.
the diocese of Palm Beach, FL has an on-going educational program in place for ALL who work, serve in diocesan parishes. And as I understand it, all dioceses in the US, under the USCCB Conference have this or similar programs; ours is call Virtus

I don't say hush but I do say we should see the art/abomination ourselves before we say what it is.
I'm going to use a series of paintings today's people might call blasphemous , yet it wasn't blasphemous at all to Christians of the past.
In the medieval and renaissance days, painting Mary's breasts getting suckled by baby Jesus was wholesome, but now it sounds unwholesome even writing it..
I know it isn't unwholesome but there is a feeling based on today's weird moral viewpoint that it is.
maybe that's because our age is unwholesome and WE shoudn't look at Mary's breasts like that.
Maybe the challenge is to look at the painting of Jesus breast feeding and know it isn't a sexual image at all.
I have toes this sculpture before agree it is blasphemous.
Childbirth is not unwholesome. Depicting Mary in that way can be wholesome... God made childbirth and calling it blasphemous or sexual is a slight against God.
This is why we have toes the art to see the artist's intentions.
A lady says, "God bless you and your mother's breasts!" to Jesus.
We can't think that scripture is blasphemous or gaudy.. that would be unwholesome of us.

One treason I fu=ind reaction disturbing is that I have a Christian book with hundreds of illustrations and one is childbirth... but I drew it in a style like Giotto and there is no sexual feeling at all.

I gave you a thumbs up for your prayers, but please don't say: "the Council's actual teachings." The purpose of that "council" event was to begin to dismantle the Church. When you see a tornado go through your house and then see the destruction, you don't say that a cleaning service came into your well-ordered house to "tidy up a bit." Look what has happened. The only churchmen that were godly at the time, hated what was going on and spoke and wrote against it. Read "The Ottoviani Intervention." Vatican II was b-a-d! Our Lady of Fatima said to read her "Secret" in 1960. "Then it will be clear" (that the hierarchy was full of 'bad actors' wanting the destruction of the Faith).
Through "a fissure"? More like through the wide-open windows of Pope John XXIII.
The front door was flung open with Vatican II and Satan waltzed right in and Pope Paul VI was a huge part of this mess. We haven’t had a good pope in many decades.

Our Lady is of ultimate virtue and modesty and should be honoured she would never want to be depicted in this manner it’s disgusting to treat her with so little respect. Lord have mercy! And a comfort for our Mother 😢🙏🏻✝️
When Mary was with child she stayed at her cousin Elizabeth’s house for some time and even Elizabeth did not dare to treat her with the slightest disrespect or familiarity, never mind profaning her. Instead, Elizabeth made sure to honour her with great reverence, guided by the Holy Spirit. She allowed Mary to feel useful by letting her make garments and coverlets for the expected birth of John the Baptist, but even then, Elizabeth never used them as they were so precious, having come from the hand of Mary. To go from that to what is happening today is an abomination.

I read that somebody destroyed the statue by cutting off the head, which doesn't make it any better really. It should never have been done at all, it depicts the Blessed Virgin in the act of giving birth - I've attended five births of my children and it's a very private and protected event, you don't put it up in public, the statue was a completely ridiculous idea.
Well, I'm not sure that the act of giving birth was the problem, but the highly vulgarized depiction of it in the statue, which was purely meant as a provocation (the words of the woman artist to the newsmedia pretty much confined this).
@@2Uahoj Well I have photos here at home taken as my wife was giving birth to our children. They are very valuable to us as a family but I absolutely would not show them to just anyone. A birth is something that should (ideally) be a very protected, shielded, intimate and private event, and the graphic depictions of it in the statue (which looks rather like a primitive paper mache model that a school pupil might make) go completely against the private and intimate nature of a birth. That's how it looks to me anyway.

Our Lady gave birth in a way that preserved her perpetual virginity.
I am a younger person in my early 30's, & what I saw at many typical community Norvus Ordo parish churches, made me feel sad & unfulfilled. Many indifferent & cold priests at times even harsh and mean, no shepherding or their flocks to strive for holiness, and to live euchariatic and sacrament based lives. No talks of the mystics, saints or God's changing power in their lives. A disdain and feel of unwelcomeness from those who cling to modernism & the spirit created by Vatican II's mishandling in the church towards those of us who show extra reverence at Mass, receive Eucharist kneeling on the tongue, and go out of our way to express outwardly to Our Lord how much we respect his Holy Mysteries. Younger people want the Catholic Faith as it remained unchanged for nearly 2000 years, not whatever it is trying to become at the hands of some Church Leaders. We want Our God, we want to be Holy!

I'm a Novus Ordo Catholic. I was raised with Latin. I enjoy my language w the mass. I love our English music. I enjoy the priest facing the congregation. The sexual revolution happened at the same time as Vatican II. That's the source of our scandals. Pope John XXIII open the Vatican doors & invited the Holy Spirit in, The Charismatic & Curcio branches were
wonderful. Now, the church has stopped supporting those movements. Stop the sex abuse. Stop any secular infiltration, Have a Latin mass, if you wish but leave mass in our vernacular alone. We have French, Vietnamese, Syriac & Latin masses. Keep our choices.

Fr. Mark, today here in the United States we celebrate our nation's Independence. I wish to convey upon you a Happy Independence Day on this day July 4th, 2024. 🇺🇸 🇻🇦
Here in the Diocese of Buffalo 50% of the churches are being put up for sale to compensate victims of priests over the last several decades. Church attendance is down and there are fewer priests. So many people here are asking for Latin Mass and kneeling when receiving Communion, but they are being denied by the Bishop and so many priests. Young families are asking for true Catholicism without success. Please pray for us.
I'm Episcopal in Vermont. I am converting to Catholic and in RCIA. It really bothers me that at my Episcopal Church we kneel for communion, and it is very reverent. When I go to the Catholic Masses they all receive standing up, as quickly as possible, and with no respect. It looks like they (Priests and congregants) are all inconvenienced. I cannot take communion with such disrespect to Jesus. I am going to be the Catholic dropping to their knees on the floor to take the Eucharist, lol. And it might take me a moment to get up from said floor.

As a former Catholic, I think that Father Mark is a beacon of light within the corruption of the church. A rare breed of a man he is! I am bothered by the bemoaning of young people "turning to tradition." We don't turn to tradition. We turn to Holy Mother Church. We aren't separate from you who are not "conservative" whatever that means.
God is eternal. So is His Church. What was true, is true, and will always be TRUE. This means that worship using the old liturgy is, was, and always will be valid.
No, I won't take communion in the hand anymore. Ever again. YOUR HANDS ALONE are properly prepared and worthy. This is important. The prayers of the old liturgy are important! They give proper reverence to God. And now we see evil twisting the very meanings of the words "woman" and "man" so we can see the importance of using a dead language as the foundation for communication with God.
We are not apart from you, Father. We are with you, shoulder to shoulder. You and every priest who is on fire for Christ.
"Tradition" isn't without its problems either, make no mistake most of us don't idealize it either. Scruples and pride are just as rampant as in the diocese. Every problem Catholics struggle with in the Novus Ordo is struggled with by trade. But I will say by and large trads catechize better. They train even the children in apologetics better. They make it far more clear that GOD IS AT THE CENTER OF OUR LIVES! ...and that makes carrying those burdens a joyful task.
40 years I spent my Sundays in the 45 minute, rush to the TV, football jerseys in the pews mass. I graduated from a very good Catholic high school. I lived all over the US and world. I am not ignorant of the state of The Church. By their fruits you shall know them. This abomination of a statue and the further abomination of a bishop that allows it isn't even the culmination of what we will endure, but we will endure it with God in our hearts and shoulder to shoulder good Father.

Yeah Taylor Marshall showed this on y.t. and not the whole statue...only the head and the stomach. A think it was said,, a Catholic man came there and smashed the head of from the statue. Taylor said the bishop gave an approval for this statue to come in rhat church.

I think you still need to be physically present to receive the sacrament of Eucharist. Just go to the best local church you can find. Speak the truth with charity and patience. Make it better. Peace!

Just yesterday I watched in horror as a Catholic Church in Hoboken, New Jersey celebrated a Mass with and for all gay people with the rainbow flag, of course. It was even sadder for me and my husband because we grew up in that county and area. What an abomination! So sad.

I saw part of that disgusting statue online, they didn’t show the whole statue because it was so disgusting and I can’t believe a bishop approved letting that disgusting and disrespectful thing ( I cannot call it art) in a Catholic Cathedral. I pray daily for our church and its hierarchy that they will come to their senses. May God bless you. You truly are a gift from God for us.

I heard of this news and decided right away I don't even want to see that sculpture, no curiosity at all. As Fr Ripperger said before, do not let scandalous images enter our mind. Thank you Fr Mark for speaking up on this topic. Pray the rosary. Virgin most powerful, pray for us.
Where is the leadership? Why are these kinds of things allowed to happen? We know these bishops can smash the Latin Mass, why can’t they stop this blasphemy? You allow what you love. Many are allowing evil. Sad. Praying!

Uhhh…yeah, I agree, it is blasphemous. Since the Virgin Mary was free from original sin, the birth of Jesus would not have been like any other birth in the history of the world. She did not experience birthing pain. I believe the book, the Mystical City of God, gives an account from Our Lady of what the birth was like. I came to know Christ in jail in 2013 by reading a book, "Overcoming spiritual blindness" by James P. Gills MD. The veil was taken off my eyes. Heaven came through for me.
