A guide featuring information on levels 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 for a Abjuration Wizard 10 / White Dragon Sorcerer 1 / Monk 1 build. The focus is to make yourself into an incredibly hard to damage gaseous ball while enemies destroy themselves by attempting to hurt you.Following is a summary of how to go about building from the start -
Starting Stats:
Str 8
Dex 16
Con 17
Int 15
Wis 8
Cha 8
Feats:
Tavern Brawler
ASI
Spoiler Hair:
+1 Int
The basis of the build is simple, as it is for most Abjuration Wizard builds - you cast Abjuration spells to raise your Arcane Ward charges. The main ones you will use are Mage Armor, Armor of Agathys, Glyph of Warding, Counterspell, and Shield (Though CURRENTLY Shield does not add Arcane Ward charges). The usual interaction of these spells is that your Armor of Agathys will do (level it was cast at)*5 Cold damage to anyone who hits you, as LONG as you still have the level*5 Temporary Hit points still remaining. Because of the way Arcane Ward reduces damage, you will almost never take damage even to your Temporary Hit points unless your Ward gets low, or you are getting hit for a lot with single hits. This is the basic level of how Abjuration Wizard works.
Now we introduce the Gas Cloud portion - a level 3 Spell, Gaseous Form is a spell that requires Concentration, but gives you Resistance to all damage, drops your Strength, Dex, and AC to a base 10, but lets you keep your Constitution! (Which helps with your Concentration Checks) You can get your Con save so high that you will almost never be broken out of the cloud (In 2 entire game runs, I have been knocked out a total of maybe...5 times?). You will definitely not be able to cast spells, so that is one downside, but especially when you get higher level, you can pick points to just drop the spell and cast things. At low levels you will really want to stick in Gas Form for as long as possible. The damage seems small at first, but really adds up against other low level characters. Doing 60-100 damage a round at lvl 6 is a lot compared to some of the other class combinations, and you do it while also being incredibly durable.
Advantages of Gaseous Form are as follows:
Resistance to All Damage
It allows you to fly, and therefore spend 0 movement to get attack of opportunities triggered
You are floating, so unaffected by things on the floor
You are tiny, so can fit in places
Lowers your AC, making you a good target as Abjuration

Let me know in the comments what you liked/disliked about the video, and what you would like to see for builds in the future! Here are a few others I have already made and considered making videos for if you don't have any thoughts!
The Underzealot
Clown Hammer 40k
Way of the Sneaky Snake
Monk of the Shadowhand
The Heal of Lers
Each can do hundreds of damage a round, apply crazy effects, and have fun gimmicks.

Just fyi you can still be knocked prone in gas form, killing your concentration, i suggest boots of striding to stop this happening, also could just go 2 warlock 10 abwiz for unlimited mage armour to get 20 stacks before each battle, but then you lose the 6th spell slot. i like the use of gas form!
Clever. I never thought to use the gas cloud with my abjuration wizard.
My current wizard is frost spec'd so I was disappointed to see retaliation and glyphs not stacking frost effects from items.
Can you upload more gameplay of this? I like the idea a lot.
What a great idea 😀
I will give this a try
Genius!
This is a crazy brilliant build. Lol
I did a build similar to this on my own 😅. I was 1 sorcerer white for armor of agathys, 5 cleric for spirit guardians and the rest on abjuration sorcerer, basically swapping the points you have into dex for wisdom. And you hit them with spirit guardians as you run around to provoke their strikes of opportunity. I had bae zel give me the warding bond for the resistances. Yours is more creative but i don't want to carry around bottles of water for every enemy 😅
Do you know if extra attack carries over to the cloud? I am thinking about using this spell as a scroll with my monk
Just curious would the Snowburst Ring work well with this build?
A nice thought, but unfortunately no, it doesn't proc off of retaliation damage. I love that ring in other builds though, truly excellent
Does item work when you in cloud form ? really curois ring create ice surface and work with this build or not.
No unfortunately not.
most of your builds compete with gear for each other, would be fun to use multiple of your builds in 1 party
Indeed, the first several I tried to keep from overlapping too much, if you watch them you can find a few things to combine. The next several will also have new items as well, though I will also start repeating some that were used in earlier builds (Like Bhaalist armor) so people can try those sorts of things without resorting to using my Thief build if they don't like Rogue. :)
I've played AOA + Abjurattion in DND prior to BG3. It is a bit different as the Ward doesn't have charges but mere HP that applies on top of AOA.
Can you explain how the Ward works? I still don't understand this whenever I'm playing my wizard in BG3 and an enemy does only 1 damage and gets absolutely annihilated lol.
Basically, it goes like this:
You take damage (We'll say, 40!)
You halve it (Resistance from Gaseous Form, 20 damage now)
Now, you subtract your Arcane Ward TOTAL charges from this damage, and lower your total remaining charges by 1 (We'll say we had 20, so you take 20 damage, -20 from charges, for 0 damage, with 19 Arcane Charges remaining afterward)
Then, it checks 'Did this monster hit you?' for AoA, and it did, even though it did 0, so it takes 30-60 (Depends if Wet or not ;) )
@@robertplaysvideogames but how come sometimes you still may take damage even if you have had wards? I remember at lvl 5 (1 cleric, 1 sorcerer 3 wizard) I would still actually take damage even if you have multiple ward charges.
@@auomi8762 It depends on the grand total you are taking. Arcane Ward will only reduce it by the number of Charges, in value. So if you have only 5 Charges, you will only reduce 5 damage from said attack. Early game, you often are taking damage still.
it's funny that the ai always takes the first possible oppertunity attack that they can take. Not very smart.
This is a cool build, but wouldn’t 16 CON 16 INT be better starting stats than 17 CON 15 INT? Same CON modifier but +1 to INT. Then just take +2 CON at level 4. Or is this so you can get 16 DEX as well?
Tavern brawler gives +1 to con
@@cthulhuwu_he took an ASI at level 4 to get CON to 18 and INT to 16. Tavern Brawler was later.
I think it’s about also getting DEX to 16. Can’t have 3 ability scores at 16+ in character creation
His suggested stats are probably optimal in a vacuum, but I personally don't like builds that assume you can use the hag hair because you have 4 party members to think about. I especially hesitate to use the hag hair here because dex gets more and more irrelevant as you spend more and more time in gas cloud form. You could go 17 CON, 16 INT, 14 Dex with I think 2 more points to put in some random place for skill checks? Another thing you can do for early game is use the int hat you get off the ogre to give you the ability to put more points in dex.
What spell is usefully?
