Kevin Spacey truly is a blackjack player. He always hits on 11.

@@fruitbouquet5479 I think he did something Kevin Spacey's character dind't like, so, he got rid of him.
@@gigaimpactdarumaka6945 I see. I also noticed later on in the movie when one if the mustards got kicked out, he said “You know exactly what I’m capable of, don’t you? Get your ticket and go home” and he just goes straight home. I also think that’s what really happened to “Jimmy” and a spot opened up for Ben.
Why is Kevin Spacey teaching blackjack when he can’t get over an 18
Nice lol
Savage Cory, and quite funny

You just made me stand and applaud you in my OWN HOUSE. WELL DONE.

These people are way too good at math to be good looking, and way too good looking to be good at math.
This was brought up with my friend, and we came to the conclusion that they have to be good looking, because some 'nerdy' going to Vegas and winning thousands will raise eyebrows to the dealers and security. With these characters, it looks like just a bunch of partygoers who got lucky. And maybe Kevin Spacey picked the best looking students.

Those good-looking enough to be movie stars are going to be movie stars. I'm not disrespecting intellectuals. I respect them far, far more. But if you look at the smartest mathematicians in the world, they are definitely far less attractive than movie stars on average.
I don’t know, I’d say the only gorgeous one among them is Jill (Kate Bosworth). Jim Sturgess is cute but he isn’t phenomenally good looking. The rest of them are kind of somewhat above average.
@@Garrus1995 above average? Are u joking or blind?
If my math teacher said that I could dominate Las Vegas with math, I would have paid more attention.

Ben doesn’t know what blackjack is, but does know what counting cards is
I truly laughed at this
He didnt say that, he asked ben if he STUDIED blackjack not if he knew what blackjack was
I didnt know what blackjack was but I know there’s something called card counting from all the movies I watch, so it’s still reasonable
Well yeah duh, there are different types of cards. I know what card counting is but I don't use poker cards
What a stupid comment. He said he has never studied blackjack. I have heard of rocket science but I have never studied it.
Fun fact one of the real people this story was based off teaches at my old high school. He teaches an incredibly high ranking math course that is taught around the world and his classroom has cameras all around it. The entire school and staff knows he was involved but he will never directly tell you. He also casually drives a Bentley to school everyday lol
I love Bananas
@Gabriel Kekw hahaha

Did you go to school in Maryland haha
You forgot the fun part
Many young actors have been gripped by Spacey’s talent.
Blackjack is really simple, all you have to do is memorize all the basic strategy then move on to a counting method and then knowing how to get the true count and then doing all of that in a casino without raising eyebrows multiple times
and get banned
No bro. They already mitigated that issue long ago by changing their deck shuffling policies

The way Mickey delivered his convincing movement on Ben was really good. How can Ben turn down something so profitable? If he was really that smart, he really should have looked into this and see the positive outcomes when doing it correctly.
Lot of people are goodie 2 shoes and are terrified of getting into trouble or doing something morally questionable.

@@nardinit dude I count cards...I'm not from MIT
my point is you don't have to be a genius to count cards. It's actually pretty easy.
@@_Imsosorry_ That's true, but besides the point. The movie portrays a real story without implying that it takes a genius to count cards.
It's not so much that you need to be a genius. The film does mention that but it also mentions performing under pressure and never letting emotion into the picture. That part does require a certain type of person. A rare type.
Then go do it professor
All joking aside. The threat at the end of the scene is so well done.
Such a good actor
Read the book that the movie was based on. It happened for real apparently, but the guy that assembled the teams wasn't a math professor. So trained memories, mnemonics, expressed in teams with subtle back and forth communications. The winnings were nearly has high as the movie suggests and there was a bump or two in the road. You should read up.

Lol this entire thing looks like a really sarcastic Kevin Spacey joke.
Counting cards is not illegal right? You will be just asked to leave the casino and never come back. They make it seem like they rob banks :D
It’s a little more involved than being asked to leave. You get black listed from Vegas. A second time gets you black listed from every casino in the country and put on various watch lists. Then just entering a casino after all that gets prison time.

Good movie
The self driving car gambit could lead to people willingly pay over 250 bucks for one share of your company later on, or it could be a bust like everyone else who tries to tackle this problem. Or you could go count cards at Vegas.
This secret was not secret. It was included in the movie.
This fact was based on a 100% accepting that the base theory was correct. But, what if the entire assumption is wrong?
Lose a pile of money?
If I ever go to a Las Vegas casino to play gambling games, blackjack will be the only game I play.

Ben made Tesla's self driving car...
Dudes making self driving cars, way more fun than counting cards and playing blackjack for endless hours! No chance of anything more interesting happening.
Not a hard choice!
True, but hey, sometimes people make wrong choices
Every time I see spacey now I immediately “hey it’s the kid diddler”. I’m sure everyone feels the same.
if ben was really intelligent we wouldn't really have a movie to watch.
True... a movie about making a self driving car wouldn’t be as fun
it seems unlikely the professor would pitch him personally at all, let alone in front of the rest of the team
the thing is the plus minus count system is actually very easy and even someone who only has math skills up to addition can subtraction can learn it in about 15 minutes.
Yeah, you don't need to be a math genius to count cards. You just need the will to learn and a sizeable bankroll.
Counting itself isn't hard, it's maintaining that focus with all the distractions, bells and whistles of a casino as well as having perfect memorization of the basic strategy chart, deviations, and true count conversion. Getting all of that working together with 99.99% accuracy takes about 200 hours give or take.

He forgot to tell how the ace works
Ben says he had organic chem in that class but that's nosnense. I don't know any premed who takes organic chemistry their first year in college. First off, they require prereqs like inorganic chem first and most colleges won't accept AP credits in lieu of actually taking the course. Also, there's no way an organic hcemistry class would be held in a small classroom like that. Organic chem is a massive class with hundreds if not thousands of students. Those classes are held in giant auditoriums, not 20 seat classrooms, especially at a large college like MIT.
damn if he stays he could be the one who invented tesla

I like how they sell it as if counting cards is a superpower. Casinos have been dealing with degen card counters for decades

this wouldn't work in today's gambling world. Most casinos' run a 5 deck Schutte. The cards are automatically shuffled and then you cut the deck. The only thing you can do is position yourself at the table, usually what we call third base. Then you can watch the hand unfold right in front of you. You cannot control the other players actions however, you can watch what level number of cards fall. For example, if you see a bunch face cards, and or tens out, the odds are more in your favor to get a lower card if you need take a card. Otherwise, you can waive it off and see if the dealer busts. Or you can still take the lower card and save the table. Waiving off can increase the chances of the dealer pushing or getting 21. I once saw everyone get a blackjack including the dealer. Everyone walked away from the table 🤣🤣
I’m just like him never studied Blackjack and I already got the same book as what Ben Cam-bell reads Beat the Dealer I got it already and I read the same chapter that he was reading which was Chapter 9 counter measure and I wanna win more money 💵 that way I got enough cash 💵 and so I am trying to get good at it as well

Dang bro.
It's tempting to roast Spacey for his personal life, but let's take a minute to appreciate his skill as an actor. He fools us wherever he appears, on or off the screen.
Spacey's got three roles where he coerces young men to do illegal things... 21, Baby Driver, American Beauty. He is killed in the latter two, and arrested in this one.
His best role, to me at least, will always be in Margin Call.
