As someone whos finally learned how to properly count cards, its refreshing to see a movie actually show how card counting works. I was expecting the stereotypical "king means 6 comes next" but it actually does work by adding and subracting by 1 / 0 from how the cards are dealt
So how does card counting work. Break it down for me where I can understand it better
I can't say I have ever counted in Vegas. But their are a few poker games that cycle through the deck I count cards on. Just 2's 10's, Jacks, Queens Kings and aces. I did a very simple system. A four digit number. First digit is number of 2's. Second is number of Aces, next two is number of 10 to King.
@@fuquonerogers477 as if he’s going to give you answers on how to cheat the system and become rich
Card counting only give you upto a 5% up hand on the house normally a dealer will have the up hand by 0.5 percent even when playing perfect basic strategy (need to know) card counting is actually very simple 2-6 = +1 7-9 = 0 10, face cards, ace = -1 keep count in your head devide the running count by number of decks in play ( can ask dealer at first if your don’t know) and you will get a true count the higher that count is the higher you bet

Since they legalizes sports betting in NJ AC has been insane .
Maybe you’re thinking of holdem or other table card games but they certainly do not do that for blackjack at AC lol. They use 5-7 deck shoes like any other casino
Changing he decks doesn’t change the count they don’t mark the cards
@@TheG0ldenchicken um yes it does change the count because its a fresh deck and a new cut
I don’t have clue what’s going on other than the fact that when I watched this film it looked cool
He's really good at counting cards and while it's not illegal, most if not all casino's will ban you if they suspect you of doing it. It's basically keeping track of all the cards that have been dealt to determine what could be dealt next.
You find your running count
10-A = -1
2-6 = +1
7-9 = 0
After you have that number, you find the "true" count. This is your running count divided by the total amount of decks being used minus that which is in the discard pile.
While using perfect play, the house has a .5% advantage over. If you use stupid play, it's even higher. Most of the time you're playing you will lose small amounts of money as the house has the advantage.
But if you have been counting the cards and you get a true count of +2 through +4, you will now have the advantage and become and "advantage player". At this point you start betting more. You will win and lose, but 10s and black jacks are way more likely to pop up, so you will make more than you bet in the long run.
The whole "+16" thing meant that the running count was at +16 for the deck. Meaning very few 2-6s remain, while many 10-A remain.
The reason this works is because when you bet 100, when you land a black jack, you earn 150.
Basically if the true count of the deck isn't positive, you don't want to play because it costs you money. But if the true count is positive, you will actually be making more than you bet.
All of this being said, if they believe you are counting cards, they will do something called a backoff. Basically they won't let up or down your bet. If you bet 10 for a hand, they expect you to bet 10 for the entire shoe. This prevents you from betting high when the count of the shoe is high while betting low while the count of the shoe is low. The higher the count, the higher you want your bets to be.

Oh the irony of casinos getting mad when a really smart person is able to do math to win when they know their games are fixed.
Their games aren't fixed - the *odds* are fixed.
Yeah, Mathematically the house always has the odds in their favor. But Black Jack is one of the only games that if played correctly, you can alter the odds. That being said, every casino holds the right to deny anyone’s bet. And anyone who is altering the odds will be blacklisted. However, the Casino does everything they can to alter the odds. For example, pumping the gambler full of free liquor, good looking cocktail waitresses, and even paid women to flirt with someone on a hot streak. Anything to distract from doing well. I’m a Vegas boy, born and raised, my family has worked in the casinos for decades. There is a reason locals don’t go to the casinos that much. We know the tricks they play.
Gamblers are so funny. The games aren’t fixed, they’re rigged in the houses favor. Who would’ve thought that a business wants to make money from their services? Lol. Do you also get upset when you go to a restaurant and the burger costs more than if you made it at home?
thanks for sharing ur insight! @@MaddawgMar
Don't get why people think like this. What did you expect? For a casino to offer everybody gambling games where they are more likely to lose? Of course the odds are in their favor. Everybody know this, and they still gamble.

1:36 I love how the dealer gives Ben a little smirk, like he’s happy and proud that he won the chips
Yeah dealers enjoy players winning. It's not the dealer's money, and losing players don't tip.
The dealer is happy when the players win because they're more likely to get a tip. If they get wiped out they probably get nothing. I dunno if it's most, but I don't tip til the end.
Dealers love it when you win. It's not their money they lose, and most players will tip.

I don't understand blackjack or how casinos work. Why would he be kicked out?
@@KabirBhae casinos don’t like winners. They are a business and are looking to make profit. Card counting swings the advantage onto the player so they are gaining money in the long term. The casino has a right to remove who they want from their premises as it belongs to them so they remove card counters because they are making money off them. But different casinos work different and some will take longer to kick you out than others.
@@thegamingone7349 Opening a business means you're always willing to accept total loss if your business doesn't succeed. If you're offering a game and the customer is really good at it and you dont like it, you shouldn't be able to do anything about since you agreed to that possibility. Its only because politicians are paid by casino owners that there aren't any laws against kicking someone out of a casino smh
@@tokyojuul9987 pretty sure it goes under the “right to refuse service” or something
@@tokyojuul9987 no it’s because it’s their right to refuse service. What they can’t do is take the money you have already won or kick you out in the middle of a hand. Other than that they can tell you to leave if they want (as long as it’s not for discriminatory reasons). Just cuz they accept the possibility of losing some money doesn’t mean they won’t do why they can to not allow it to happen.
If you've ever been in a casino you realise that the count never gets this high
It's the running count that he is keeping in his head (+16). Based off of his bet of 4 units he likely has a true count of +4 which is bound to come up several times in a session of a few hours.
depends on how many decks are in the shoe, no?
@@ganobrator6150 What matters is how many decks of the shoe have been dealt. For example if it's a 6 deck shoe and 2 decks have been dealt, then you would have 4 decks remaining. With a running +16 you would divide by 4 getting a true count of +4. Lets say there have been 4/6 decks dealt so 2 remaining. If you had a running +16 then you would divide by 2 giving you a true count of +8. That is how you convert the true count in a multideck game.
AGREED ☝️. I’m also an advantage player. You rarely see the True Count go above +2.
@@panoszoeoverzero1080 I play every weekend and I see high counts all the time. I do play 6-10 hour sessions though. My local casino also offers single deck Blackjack though so within 1 round it’s not rare at all to see True 2s and up. Now True 5 and up only happen once in a blue moon but when they do I take full advantage of the situation.
This is probably the most realistic card counting in a movie
*Nice movie, confirm it...*
@shortfilmtrending
Every casino owner and floorman watching this would be rubbing their hands in glee "yes we are ready, bring all your money, all of it!!!!!"
Unless they have concrete evidence that a player is cheating. They must pay the winnings. Counting is not cheating.
the trick to counting cards is not be so obvious. intentionally lose 3/4 of your games, and those games keep your bets low. If you count cards and win every hand, chances are you will leave that casino one hand short
The trick to counting cards is to not be greedy. I talked to the pit boss at the Hard Rock casino in Vegas a number of years ago. He said if a person is counting and only varying their bets on a 1-4 spread, e.g. 25 to 100, then they aren't likely to say anything so long as you aren't being obvious about it. What they won't allow, however, is the person who suddenly goes from betting $25 to betting $1000 when the deck is positive because if the player wins that the casino has no opportunity to win it back. I also make it a point not to win enough to have to color up to a big chip. If I bought in for $500 I'll quit at $950 because you don't want the dealer calling out "Coloring up. Yellow going out." You could always decline coloring up but then that will get you noticed. It's all about not attracting attention.
@@es330td what’s wrong with the dealer calling out that you’re colouring up?
@@porto1st It isn’t the coloring up, it’s the color. When large denomination chips go out the pit boss has to be notified. When you sit down and put $500 down the dealer calls out “Check change $500” and gives the player chips. If you get up and the dealer colors you up and announces “Coloring up. Yellow going out.” now the pit boss will make a mental note that someone who bought in for $500 took at least a $1000 chip off the table. They are always looking for high rollers to give perks to but this is a good way for counters to get noticed as well. If you buy in for $500 and take away less than $1000 you are just noise.
@@es330td Ahhhh makes so much sense. Wow. Thanks for explaining
This is absolutely what your not supposed to do. Counting cards only gives you a slight advantage over the casino. If you start throwing hands you lose that advantage and increase your risk of ruin.
That quick glance from Kevin Spacey means something very different nowadays.

@@inamartina9985 Your chances increase roughly +0.5% for every +1 true count (running count / decks left in shoe). It depends on the rules of the table, as well as the system you're using; some higher level, non-binary systems (i.e., not only +1 & -1) can give you a bigger advantage, but then again the systems which do that work best with specific shoe sizes, etc. etc. I'm trying to say that its more complex than "counting improves your odds by 1 percent", which would leave APs with only a ~0.5% advantage over the casino.
