  • @bachatamusica
    @bachatamusica Před 4 lety +17

    By this stage, both couples were divorced, and Frida had moved her residence to London. This was their last "big" hit. This song reflected their personal lives,,,, no smiling,,, and no bounce to the beat. They had come a long way from "Bang-A-Boomerang", where it was smiles from the beginning to the end of that video, and they were all holding hands too,,,,,, a far cry from "One Of Us",,,,, with no smiles and definitely no holding hands. 😳

    • @bachatamusica
      @bachatamusica Před 4 lety +1

      @@resireg Yes! 👍😊 By the time ABBA released "The Visitors",,, they had evolved musically and matured personally. Even though "The Visitors" is a "sad" and "somber" album, I still love it. Especially, "I Let The Music Speak". Frida did a beautiful job with the vocals. Did you know that, if ABBA had released another album, after "The Visitors",,,,, that they were planning to name the album "Opus 10"? Yes, I remember reading that in an article when they interviewed either Benny or Bjorn.

    This made No.3 in UK chart late 81.
    Yeah, whenever I read the lyrics sheet to The Visitors album, its very unnerving cause its like reading someone's personal diary or someone's personal letters; how could ABBA wear their hearts on their sleeves to this extent? Its just utterly incredible plus the limited timeframe that there was to write & record The Visitors album, it just showcases what remarkable true dedicated ABBAreally were, and how they matured even in the glare of the public eye at this stage of their career in late81.

    • @moviereviews4747
      @moviereviews4747 Před 3 lety +1

      @Kaempfer M I think Should I Laugh Or Cry would've worthy of being on The Visitors album as a good album track but not as a A side single like you said🙂

    • @RoelofColyn
      @RoelofColyn Před rokem +2

      Completely agree. I read that the reason they stopped making music together is because The Visitors album was just too far removed from the music their general fan base at the time was willing to handle. ABBA grew up. Not just lyrically, but also musically. And the songs on The Visitors are particularly grown up. I mean, if your first song is a desperate homage to the Cold War, how do you come back from that and just 'blissfully entertain'?
      Such a pity. Though. This is the ABBA I mistrust Ed when I heard it the fi St time, and yet now this is the ABBA I would have lived to have seen walk the road. Such intelligent music, such depth in all the vocals, the arrangements, the lyrics, the production...

    • @alnaale6923
      @alnaale6923 Před rokem

      @@RoelofColyn я полностью согласна, на время они переросли своих поклонников и своих современников. Только сейчас до многих доходит истинное значение их творчества. Я была влюблена в их песни, вернее, мелодии и звучание голосов, потому что ничего не понимала по-английски, у нас в бывшем СССР практически не было доступа к их видео, очень редко их показывали по телевизору, а в 1981 году был фильм из Австралийского турне в кинотеатрах, билетов было не купить, я даже сбежала с экзамена, чтобы попасть на сеанс. Но слушая их последний альбом, мне не нравилось, что девушки в основном поют соло, песни грустные, почти не танцевальные. Не знала текстов, но душа болела и рвалась от боли за них, за распад, за невозможность ими больше наслаждаться. А потом все кругом стали утверждать, что АВВА это пустышка, бессмысленные напевы для танцпола, стало стыдно их любить. Но я их продолжаю любить до сих пор. И сейчас они спасают от страха за войну, за горе, что ходит рядом с нашими границами, и нас тоже может туда втянуть. Опять АББА даёт радость и гармонию, чтобы пережить все плохое

    As always, love, love One Of Us!! What a great illustration of the studio vocals...ABBA pioneered the technique of "stacking" vocals...used original track then slightly increased speed, recorded as new track(s) then also the same, decreased speed...adds such depth!!!! Genius in their work, never lacking!!! 👍🤙💜

    I am so happy that you reacted to this song but I am happier that you notice the dark and sadness vibe on this song which is a fingerprint of their last album THE VISITORS. I love ABBA but I love their last pieces of work such as One of Us, or When All Said and Done. The ABBA story is quite unique, their relationships, their divorces, the end you can even feel and see their boredom on this video however is an amazing song. One of us is a pretty special song. When you read the lyrics, you have a sad story and you can guess the dark thoughts of the main character. If you keep only the music - forget that it is usually a terrible idea to skip Agnetha and Anni-Frid voices - you have a (of course delightful) rather light melody who can easily make you smile. On the paper, this has little chances to fit well. But this is ABBA...

    they look worn out by this point. Although they always maintain they were being professional and it was just a job I always find some of these later lyrics and performances quite uncomfortable. I do think it's part of their genius that they can take a quite happy sounding song and talk about completely depressing things - it's that juxtaposition that makes it really interesting.

    Derek never interrupted the track, a sign he didn't like it. Normally he can't help but stop start the songs.
