      The crazy thing is that it only grows more and more. The salary is nothing. Just see their net worth’s! And btw there is so many ways to do so you almost don’t pay any taxes which I really think the most athletes take part of

      the stars make absurd amounts, the average player though I calculate around $1,000/hour ish (if im remembering right) and that's not including taxes. Avg player spends about 5 years in the NBA making 5 million or so per year. . .but when u calculate off-court activity + practice etc., it's less than peeps think imho. not to say they still dont make a decent amount, but!

    Make a video on how much owners make. I never understood how you can loose money owning a NBA team and why you would keep the team if it's loosing money.

    • @airjones45
      @airjones45 Před 6 lety +15

      -/-/-3 1 Their was a leaked report by that far guy who covers the Lakers I can't remember his name but it showed 9 NBA teams lost money last year with three of them being playoff teams and one being the Cavs.
      They don't all make money some of teams are in the negative. Whats the strategy behind keeping a team that looses millions every year? Why do some of these teams even though their loosing money continue to remain in the luxury tax.
      The Hawks are a team that I think was on the list for teams that didn't make money. They let Paul Millsap walk for nothing and traded Kyle Korver away so they wouldn't have to pay him when his contract expires. Then Dwight Howard gets traded my guess is they signed him because they thought he would boost ticket sales as a bigger name but when they saw that wasn't working they traded him.
      On the other end OKC reported they weren't making money and they decided to offer Russell Westbrook the biggest contract in NBA history at the time and traded for two more big name players one who will command the max and the other alot of money as well.
      Explain to me how much nba owners make and why they make the decisions that they do from a business perspective.

    • @carmeloanthony4153
      @carmeloanthony4153 Před 6 lety +4

      darius jones you don't actually lose your own money. You just make far less income than you normally would if that's the case and that's because less fans are showing up to games and less of the player's and arenas' merch is being brought.

      @carmeloanthony4153 Před 6 lety

      @airjones45 Před 6 lety +2

      Carmelo Anthony That's not loosing money that's a decrease in revenue. The article said they lost money. Honestly even without the article I know some teams aren't that profitable because owners wouldn't be selling if they were.

    This video is great for covering the business aspect of contracts and how their taxes and fees play its roles. But on the outer edge, It should also be noted that highly paid athletes (as well as coaches, managers, trainers, owners, GMs, and announcers) are the sole income provider for their close and extended families. Many athletes have even taken care of their in-laws (not just mother/father, but sister/brother in-law) Insurance for cars and homes and medicine. Property taxes/rent/utilities. Technical fouls, ejections, fines, Injuries and suspensions take affect (no play, no pay).

    I have worked with many CPAs in the states who have clients that are worth a large sum as well, the numbers you are crunching here is just what you perceive from the information obtained online or via some manual research.
    The fact of the matter is that beside tax breaks from the popular and well known means, e.g. Charity, family support, etc, there are other legal ways to lower tax obligations. These are all legitimate and not some falsifying of documentations, etc.
    If you are worth a pretty penny as well, you will find that the actual taxes payable seem to be lesser than what you expect if you get a good CPA. Huge accounting firms that are elites in the industry are not just for show, this is what they do and how they justify their somewhat obscene retaining fee.

    My understanding of NBA contracts:
    If you get $20-million a season, you cut that in half. $10-million goes to taxes & other deductions.
    Your $10-million is then divided over 12 months.
    These athlete make more money off the court

    The title is a bit misleading. Perhaps it would be more fitting to say that it's how much they KEEP rather than how much they make. It is common knowledge that income is taxed, higher income is taxed at a higher rate, and different states and situations result in different overall amounts that have to be paid (good info on players being taxed for games they play in states other than their home state for the games they play there; I had never heard of that). These taxes are paid on the money someone MAKES, so saying how much they really MAKE seems to assume that there is something other than taxes that would be impacting the amount they are paid before taxes or, perhaps some kind of discussion about what they get beyond their salary such as endorsements (though I suspect that this does not apply to all players). Aside from this small issue of the title, it was a decent video, especially for those who don't consider or are unaware of how taxes impact income at those levels.

  • @wizmanballin8498
    @wizmanballin8498 Před 6 lety

    This is a great video...and the reason it's made is because of the misconception of "who" makes the most money. Who would have ever thought that Conley makes more than Westbrick?
    The purpose is truly intended. People have to know stuff like this because it brings you back to reality, whether these players are millionaires or not. Net pay and Gross pay or two entirely different things, but the casual fan will simply look at the contract itself, not what they bring home...and argue their favorite player makes more than your favorite player, when in reality, this may not be true at all.
    This is why NBA players go broke...living off of the "numbers" and not the gross salary. It's easy to spend millions as a player when you have family, friends, and entourage you have to keep happy, business deals and investments that can go bad, etc...that $15 mil doesn't look so nice after all if you don't have a good management team around you.
    So the video does a great job in breaking down what that pay really looks like on the back end. If anyone is aspiring to make the league? Now you know what your pay will really look like.
