- #PostalPleasures: Using a Sweat Box to Separate Stuck #Stamps & Hinge Remnants Minimizing Gum Disturbance & Ink Loss (Part 4 - Final)
The stamps have been in the #sweatbox for about 12 hours. Aside from a small thin from a stubborn hinge which I should have given up instead of using brute force we had some decent success, I would say overall I usually have even better luck than what you see in the videos.
A couple of notes which I neglected to mention in the videos:
1. I like to use the sponges with a green scrubby side as I feel it gives a bit of separation between the damp sponge and the stamp
2. don't leave the stamps in too long, I once went away for a week having forgotten to remove a batch and came home to a moldy mess.

I've heard of these "sweat boxes," but didn't know anything about them until this video. Thank you very much for this informative tutorial, which I found very helpful. I made my own sweat box today and tried it out with some stuck stamps that I have and it worked better than I could even imagine. Thank you again.
Hi Jeff, I am glad it worked out for you!
I never heard about this.i must test it with my new stamps with gum to split it.Thanks👌
Good Luck, it is also a good way to relax curled stamps. I have a video for that as well.
@@PostalPleasures ok,thx again
When you make a sweat box do you use a sponge or a toughie pad I see the dark brown you put the stamps on. Also do you have a video on how to make a sweat box ?
If you keep checking to see if they’re able to come apart then does that lengthen the time that’s needed? If so, what are reasonable time intervals?
Also, warm water would increase the humidity but I don’t want to have the stamps too soaked. Have you tried different water temps?
Technically yes, I guess you loose a bit of the built up humidity and it slows down the process. The watched pot never boils... But its a minimal effect as to the point I don't really worry about it. you will get a feel for it fairly quickly and be able to guess how soon to check back based on how they felt when you tried to separate them. sometimes I check again in 5 minutes other times I give it an hour or even overnight.
I think the hinges are not as porous as the paper and it may take longer to separate.
Most of the time the hinges come right off, it was just bad luck that I got a stubborn one for the video. I suspect it wouldn't have come free even with days in humidity.
