Thank you so much for asking this question about collagen powder if they can go to building plack in the arteries- I have been looking for this information. A patient with much plack got higher blood pressure every time trying to start collagen powder- because “everybody” says collagen and protein is important to take when your older.. Your point here may explain the increase in blood pressure, and your info is important to know for everyone.
Do you know if Glucosamine, made from shrimps, can have a similar effect on the artieries? It claims to rebuilt cartilage, but can a discontinuation, after many years of use, lead to break down of this and into the bloodstream, building plack?

Thank you for your comments and question.
I have not found any literature evidence of an association between glucosamine supplement and arterial plaque formation.
But based on information about pharmacokinetics of oral glucosamine and glucosamine metabolism, I highly doubt that discontinuation of oral glucosamine will lead to artery plaque formation.
However, I do think arterial plaque formation is mainly due to the body’s overall metabolic condition or inflammatory condition. Continuation of glucosamine will not correct the plaque-prone environment, and prevent arterial plaque formation.
