    *** VITAL INFO FOR GH5 USERS ***
    When using the Sirui Anamorphic Lens, or any 1.33x anamorphic lens, do NOT shoot in 'anamorphic mode' within the GH5. This 4:3 open gate mode is only intended for lenses with a 2x squeeze - For lenses with 1.33x (Such as the Sirui Anamorphic), the footage must be captured at 16:9 to produce the proper anamorphic result.
    I just spent 48 hours banging my head against a wall over this. Hope it saves someone else the stress!

      When desqueezing the footage to 1.33 in premiere it looks a little stretched out, but when I choose widescreen 16:9 (1.21) it looks perfect. I have the sir magic anamorphot 1.33x - 40. Am I not using it right? Please Help

    Great video! I have the panasonic 12-35 version I lens and it has 58mm front threads and was thinking about buying the slr magic 2x squeeze anamorphot adapter which mounts a taking lens with 62mm front threads. Will this setup work with a 58mm to 62mm step up ring if that step up exists?

  • @TylerCaseyProd

    So this adapter lets you film in 5k on the GH5 and use Panasonic lenses? Would love to hear how this works. Thanks!

    • @danieljohnpeters
      @danieljohnpeters  Před 6 lety +7

      The GH5 shoots 6K anamorphic but only when using 2x squeeze anamorphic lenses.... As this test was with the 1,33x anamorphic lens it was shot in 4K and UHD.
      The adapter can go on any lens that fits on the GH5 with or without adapters, as long as the lens that goes on the camera/taking lens has a 52mm front thread so the adapter can screw onto the lens.
      If the lens you have is a smaller thread, you can use step ring to attach to the adapter but you don't want the lens thread to be bigger then 52mm as you will see the edges. The taking lens should also not be any wider then 20mm as you will see vignetting
      Hope that helps

    Great work! Did you shoot in 4:3 ratio to fill the screen? How did you desqueeze the video in premiere/resolve? and how was your settings when exporting? :) really impressed with this cinematic look. Its not too much of a squeeze and when the field is not to narrow in the final image it really looks like a big production kind a movie :)

    • @danieljohnpeters
      @danieljohnpeters  Před 6 lety +2

      Thank you Johan
      I didn't shoot 4:3 as that is mainly for 2x Anamorphic Lenses. Since this adapter is 1,33x I shot UHD and I desqueezed to 1,33x in Premiere pro in the modify settings when you right click on a clip.
      Then I exported out as the same settings it was imported
      Hope that helps

    • @johanmeckbach2044
      @johanmeckbach2044 Před 6 lety

      Thanks you for the answer! really coo. So with a 2x lens and set to 4:3 the output proportions could be the same as this export? (but stronger effect on flares and such)? The more subtle effect you created here looks very pro to my eye though :) And what settings is needed in the sequence that you import the modified clip to or does premiere change that automatically when draged and droppen?...How do you export the desqueezed edit to 2:35:1 (or what it is). Can ratio mattes be added?-... I have a Kowa and Bell 2x and a Samsung nx1 but that gets just toooo narrow result . maybe this SLR-adapter could give similar result on the nx1:s aps-c sensor? (gh5 is of course another league in all other aspects).. thanks again!

    • @danieljohnpeters
      @danieljohnpeters  Před 6 lety

      Regarding desqueezed footage in PP, you need to right click on your files and click 'Modify', then 'Interpret Footage', then 'Conform' to either 1.333 for 1,3x crop or 2.0 for 2x lenses.
      Then when you export the footage should export as it is. Vimeo will keep the crop but youtube keeps the crop with bars top and bottom, so Vimeo looks better.
      The reason why your Samsung gets too narrow as its not using the full sensor to view 2x lenses whereas the GH5 records in 4:3 to use the most of the sensor for those lenses. The 1,33x on the Samsung would probably look fine
      Hope that helps man

    • @danieljohnpeters
      @danieljohnpeters  Před 6 lety

      @johanmeckbach2044 Před 6 lety

      Thanks again man. You really made me understand this better. Will try a 1.33x on the Nx1 :) Think your test-video looks the same on youtube and vimeo when you are in fullscreen (same amount of black bars added in fullscreen).I terms of quality my eyes are not enough experienced... thanks for the link also! Noticed that the black bars are slightly larger (a tiny bit more narrow view) in your 2x 4:3 mode. It is something special with that 1.33 i must say (!!) :) take care

  • @Coopersx1
    @Coopersx1 Před 3 lety

    Very confusing and misleading on Panasonic's part. When Panasonic first offered Firmware 2.0 in 2017 they described one of the key new features as a 6k Anamorphic Mode for 2.0 and 1.33 lenses. Has anyone else noticed this.... and maybe have an answer for why Panasonic would mention 1.33 and the featured Anamorphic mode in the same sentence????..... If it cant be used that way????

  • @justinspirational
    @justinspirational Před 6 lety

    Amazing footage- I have an older ISCO 2x anamorphic lens but thought you could only use a taking lens with a focal length above around 35mm or longer- you managed to get this work with the 20mm with no vignetting? How did you do that? WIth the 1.333x adaptation would you say your 20mm taking lens is closer to 15mm? is it true even auto focus is retained with the adapter? Thank you!

    • @danieljohnpeters
      @danieljohnpeters  Před 6 lety +1

      2x would obviously give different results and I think the 20mm would be too wide. For personal taste the 20mm is still a touch too wide with the 1,33x adapter but its the only lens I have/had to test it with as my cheap 50mm was terrible haha.
      definitely had no vignetting which was nice, its a nice cheapesh adapter and great to use. Found it easier to control focus with native lenses on the body rather then EF with adapter then anamorphic adapter etc, hope that made sense haha

    • @justinspirational
      @justinspirational Před 6 lety

      Daniel Peters thank you! Do you think the 20mm with the 1.333x adapter combo could even be wide enough for vlogging with hand held/at arm's length (since the 1.333x might make it closer to 15mm..)?

    How did you focus with this setup is it single focus or do you have to set focus on both of the lenses? I have a GH5 and a Sigma 30mm F1.4 with a 52mm filter thread, do you think it would work well with that?

    • @danieljohnpeters
      @danieljohnpeters  Před 6 lety

      You can focus to a certain degree and get away with most shots focusing on just the taking lens. For most shots I set the focus on the anamorphic adapter in the middle of both markings and then just focused on the taking lens
      The Sigma 30mm should work and look great

      A7RIII has improved rolling shutter and you have both full frame & super35 options in-camera but the GH5 still has better in-camera stabilisation and 4K 60p.
      Wide lenses for the GH5, you are probably better off with a tokina 11-16 2.8 with a speed booster. I personally find the 12mm Lumix/LEICA wide enough for most of my needs but to each their own

      It is still a double focus set up but not as difficult. Once you set up your man focus set up with both lenses you only really use the SLRMagic as intended. It's only sometimes you might have to fiddle with the taking lens for close focus abilities
      But it can be a one focus set up, bare in mind my test were with the 20mm so if you used something like a 50mm or 85mm that might change
