- The SLR Magic Anamorphot is a low cost 1.33x anamorphic adapter. It allows you to shoot in the popular 2.35:1 aspect ratio using a conventional 16:9 video camera or DSLR. In this video I take a look at the adapter, how you use it, the image quality and it's limitations. It's a really good adapter for the money. More details on the adapter can be found here www.slrmagic.co.uk
The footage looks blurry. Be nice to have your review in 4K so we can get a good look at the edges and see variations of the f-stops and how they change the corner quality. I understand it's a "look" with blurry corners but if 1.4 f-stop is no good then I'm afraid this whole think (no matter how cheap) is worthless to buy.
Hi Alistar
Is there any chance you can look into or talk about this subject.....
Instead of continuing to make camcorder with 1/3”or 1/2 “, sensors such as Sony pxw z150 and z280,
why can’t Sony also make a camcorder with the sensor and mount of their D-SLR A7 series cameras.
Just imagine a camcorder with the quality, low light ability of A7sii (or the new A7siii), with audio Xlr, no more over heating issues, no more video limit of 30min, Built in ND filters etc etc not forgetting the full frame bokeh!!!!!
surely there is a Market for this type of camcorder with a full frame sensor and mount???
So why hasn’t Sony made such a camcorder?????

"or the new A7siii" you are way ahead of the rest of us mate. Can only imagine you will have to wait extremely long for that camera :D What you want more than fullframe is bitrate. And thats where it all goes south. You need alot bigger camera to manage fullframe and 10/12 bit
alister - you wouldn't use one of these while capturing footage to be used as stock would you?
Hi, Alistair. How well would the Anamorphot work on the PXW-X70?
which is the cheap and best monitor for 1.33:1 for de-squeeze
Would this adapter work with a canon Xa10, considering it isn't a SLR or a DSLR, I know it will fit but will it work?
Don't know if you still need an answer to this question but long as it will thread on or fit and cover the front element it should work fine with no issues. Really the only limitation when it comes to what camera you can use all comes down to the size of the front element of the lens (if the thread is too large and you have to adapt you might get dark rings around your image) but long as is fits and threads on you should be good to go.
Thanks for the great video. Was just wondering what the difference is between the 1.33x and 2x anamorphic adaptors? cheers
The 1.33x adaptor will make your final image wider by a factor of 1.33 and 2x will make it twice as wide.
watisdis84 Cheers buddy
What filters would you recommend to use with it ?
Hey man, i have a burning question! hope you can help?
I have a Sony a7s + zeiss f1.8/55mm lens is this compatible?
Check out what your Zeiss filter thread is and how big is your lens front glass. If the front glass is smaller then 50mm you're ok.
49mm filter thread
DALJH If your filter thread is 49mm the glass is even smaller then that. This Anamorphic lens is a 62mm filter thread but I think he said it also comes with step up rings. You should try the gear combination before you buy to see if you like it.
This kind of adapter is very expensive.
not as expensive as a full anamorphic lens
