DJI Pocket 3: Preventing its Biggest Problem!

  • Today I show you a solution to preventing the issue with the DJI Pocket 3 where the screen no longer flips all the way up. While this has only happened to some users, and DJI is aware of the issue, a simple 10 dollar fix will help prevent this fail.
    Yes DJI is offering a free fix for the issue, but you will have to send it in and wait to get it back. This preventive solution and alternative DJI Pocket 3 case will help to avoid the send back. It easy to use, just clamps around the Pocket 3 and I think its better than using the case that came with the Pocket 3.
    The main issue is that the stock case, squeezes the LCD screen when and pulls on it as you take the camera out of the case. It certainly provides a good bit of protection it this case may NOT be as protective or durable, but for me, it's worth the risk.

    why should you ever have to send anything back to dji? dji has all those stores all over the place, the stores should send it back for you, and you should be able to pick up the fixed item at the dji store.

      So, where I live there isn't a store anywhere close. Lots of folks live outside of urban areas, I guess we just country bumpkins that still use USPS...lol. Cheers.

    Put something hard inside the case and stretch that over night or two. It will come much easier to use. Try it. Metals inside the case are super strong so you need some serious streching for it.

    Bought that device - nursed my Pocket 3 with baby gloves ! 2 days ago turned it on - screen failure 😞.

    Good info mate thanks for sharing. I think one of these could be a decent replacement for my workshop camera but yeah they do seem kinda flimsy in some ways 🤔

      Its so nice NOT to have to set up a full frame camera for that kind of stuff, I would highly recommend it.

      @@HillPhantom yeah I currently use a G7X II for that stuff, the focus is fkn terrible but I think I would miss the zoom. Other than that the Pocket would be awesome

    I've saw a video simulare to this and he metioned that flipping the screen too softly could cause the spring mecanizm to fail.

      Interesting I'm not sure how that would cause it. I'd love to see someone take it apart so we could better understand what the mechanism is ..

    Did you also notice some micro scratches on your OP3 from using this 3rd party cover? I've put some very small protective foam inside the cover to secure the OP3 so it won't bounce against the inside of the cover.

      I got lucky and I didn not notice any scratches, but honestly I barely used it bc I thought early on it was an issue. Great idea to place that foam in there!

    The case doesnt prevent the buttons from being pushed. If the OP3 turns in it can burn out your gimbal. I purchased it and now im back to the case it comes with.

      Very true. I have to hold the button on mine for about three seconds to turn it on. I guess you still have to be careful either way but for me this case works well and I'm not personally worried about an accidental turn on vs the drag on the screen w the og case.

    Wrong info. Case is not the reason. My friends pocket 3 screen failed in 15 days and he purchased a new box case from day 1. Since he purchased in Vietnam, in Thailand they denied his warranty and he had to pay 100 usd to fix it even though it's common problem.

      I believe I said I suspect....and like all things many reasons can cause the failure...but to the point its a flaw I agree with you. Also in my first review I said if you buy this 100 percent get DJI care as it's so delicate... Cheers

      @@HillPhantom I had nikon d5100 for 7 years with absolutely no issues with flip screen and currently own d7500 which also has flip screen with no issues. I bet it's same with canon. Definitely something is wrong with pocket 3 and hype they are creating by constantly not in stock. Since dji service is not available in my country I would wait for action 5. Hope they put a bigger sensor if not get dji action 4. I also read that we can use pocket 3 without flipping screen.

    Thing is, it doesn't cover the buttons. What if you put it in a bag and the record button gets pressed and activated? Then the gimbal tries to move in the shell. Is there a failsafe?

      You have to press and hold the record button for a few seconds before it turns on. But good point. There is actually another product by them that coveres the buttons as well. I think I might look into getting that extra add on as they would completly protect it and avoid that issue. Great catch and comment I didn't think of this concern. Cheers

      If you use the case, just make sure you pull apart the sides as you slide it out. It's ok NOt to use the case but if you are traveling or want to put it in your pocket I would have the case on it. Either the one that ships with it (just pull apart sides when you slide it out) or grab this one. I will say the downfall of this one, is that if you accidently click on the camera it could damage the gimble.

    I reckon you are wrong, that the case does not touch the screen and if you squeeze the camera where the DJI logo is and the bottom of the case it easily see-saws out. There is around a .017"thou gap on the case and the screen. Hope that you are wrong is not too harsh? Now if the people who do get this screen fault do squeeze the case tight enough to grip the screen, then their process is at fault. Be interesting to see if someone using the gimbal / screen cover at some date also gets the malfunction. Best Dave

      Odd and when you pull the p3 out of the case it doesn't drag on sides? Wondering I'd they adjusted case for newer ones ...did you get it recently or a while ago?

      @@HillPhantom I received mine just before Christmas. I have checked that the case cannot grip the frame of the screen, especially as it is chamfered. As said on other replies if people pressed a thumb down on the DJI logo and finger under the back of the case and gave it a squeeze the camera flips nice and smoothly out. Best Dave

      @@dave20thmay odd my 100% does I guess I don't follow. If I press the DJI logo on the case it squeezes it more. Maybe you just have a case that is stretched out but everyone I have seen rubs the screen on the side when taking out. Why I fully suggest you spread apart the case then pull it out. Luckily sounds like you just got a loose case. Cheers

    That maybe the case but for the price of this, this should not be happening. Im blessed mine has not done this but they need to fix it and make that screen a diff locking mechanism.

      Agree. The only thing I worry about is I am not certain it happens to enough of them yet. DJI is pretty good at fixing or trying to find solutions as they did with the action 2. I am just a bit paranoid as I don't live near any DJI store and I fear if it does happen I will be without the camera for a few weeks. I would LOVE to know what the mechanism is though! Appreciate it and fully agree with you!

I have never ever seen a DJI store here in America. Admittedly I live in Montana so we don't have much but I am from the east coast and I have never seen one there or on any of my travels. It was an odd comment. Have you ever seen one?

    Man. . . i went to turn on my Pocket 3 today and the screen was broken like this. I never used the stock case. It worked perfectly fine the last time I used it. I never dropped it or had any issues. It was just broken out of nowhere.
