    this was exactly the problem with our car, and you would think that was the exact same curmbling gasket. Thank you for sharing it saved us a lot of time and money trying to diagnose it. Just an FYI, doing this is not for the faint of heart. Find someone with some knowledge of how car parts are supposed to work. My awesome neighbor came down and fixed ours in a couple of hours. He also watched the video just for reference. To the question below about how to make the gasket stay in, i can't remember what it's called, but my person just some black goop made just for that. Hope that helps :) good luck on your leaks

      Damn.... I wish I lived in your neighborhood right about now with a neighbor that can do mines in a few hours..... I'd pay him whatever he needed

      The black goop is called Permatex The Right Stuff 1-Minute Gasket, and you can use it to make your your own gasket.

    Thank you! This is what just happened to my 98. I don't have the tools or space to fix it myself, but at least I can go to the mechanic and have some understanding of what to expect.

    I did this job, 8 months ago. My friend said use the Oreillys "Dorman fix kit" which has the large o-ring seal and the small shaft seal. What Garbage, it failed in 8,000 miles. 8 months. Original Toyota parts ONLY is what id recommend. I hate doing things twice.

    Ive got an oil leak on my 2.2 and I was looking today to see where it was leaking from. Now I see your video it could well be the oil pump seal.

    Theres 2 seals on that oil pump,i hope you changed both of them,what the heck though its an easy fix like you say,youll just have to do it again.i just did mine and I don't see it to be an easy fix,and I do this for a living,have fun.

  • @Aristotle2000
    @Aristotle2000 Před 8 lety +10

    Common problem in the 2.2L. Make sure to use the OEM gasket. Aftermarket gaskets do NOT hold up for this. It should be changed with every timing belt.

  • @damok9999
    @damok9999 Před 5 lety +8

    Yeah that oil drip comes right from above the oil pan so it looks just like an oil pan leak but it's not. So what ALL should be done together? Oil Pump Gasket and sprocket gasket (the one you missed this vid), Water Pump, Timing Belt, Cam Seals front and back, Serpentine Belts... What about the rear main seal and is there a timing cover gasket?

    • @spaceghost8995
      @spaceghost8995 Před 2 lety

      Rear main? No way man you have to pull the engine or drop trans to do a rear main.

      It’s a non interference engine it’s pretty straight forward. One of the easier belts

    Still leaking oil after replacing the oil pump seal, crankshaft seal, oil pan seal, camshaft seal, and valve cover seal. The only part I didn’t replace is rear main seal and the valve cover distributor seal plug on my 98 Camry 2.2 I’ll buy the the seal plug and see if that’s the culprit, if not, rear main seal replacement which I’m totally dreading 🤬

    The timing belt pulls down on the cam gear if it gets a little dry it wears the journal down to the point where no seal will stop it from leaking,out the seal and down the back of the rear timing cover,this looks like bad oil pump or power steer pump because oil is running down from very top and dripping down on them.can only be fixed with a new head also you have to pack that oil pump with vaseline before you put it back on or it wont prime,

    • @rickrick9783
      @rickrick9783 Před 4 lety

      When you pack the oil pump with vaseline do you just fill the rotor cavity ?

    mine is a 96 Camry LE . I bought a parts package deal from ebay that included water pump, oil pump, idlers, timing belt, pretty much everything. Timing belt failed less than 25k miles later because the new oil pump leaks at this silly band of a gasket. I'll add that I did notice upon inspection that the bolt holes in the new pump castings didn't locate quite right at part machining. Quality issue relative to source and/or cost ? Who knows ? Anyway... Today I have a 5 dollar "silly band", etc.. to put it back together. Wondering if a small amount of RTV sealant is recommended. None present at teardown.

    I get check engine in my car and it has to do with a sensor leaking and it might be the transmission sensor leaking, do you have a video on how to change the sensor on a 1998 Toyota Camery

    2:20, the sensor is the only thing that is wet, so for the quick fix, the sensor should be fine for the only thing replaced, correct?

    Hi , I have a 97 Toyota Camry LE , 4 cylinders , I have a leaking on my car that seemed to come from the oil pan gasket , after making a new seal there using silicon , we found that the leaking continued , my mechanic told me that he was sure the leaking comes from the oil pump , and that if so , seals there must be changed , timing belt needs to be changed , as well as water pump , my question is : if the leaking really comes from the oil pump and all these parts need to be changed , do we have to take out the oil pan gasket again in order to have the job done ?
